    02 YZ250 or 01 CR250?????

I want to get one of the two, which would you say is better, how is the reliablity on each bike, and what are the characteristics of each engine (like were do each of the two engines shine, hows the low, mid, and top end power on each)?

    Thanks alot, Kevin

i dont have either but when i was looking for a bike they both have about the same top end but the yz supposedly has much better bottom end. And i have owned a yamaha and they are great and reliable.

I've owned almost the opposite, had a 2000 YZ250 and hated it, sold it and bought a 2002 CR250 and loved it. Depends on what you want and what your preferences are in a bike. In my case, the YZ had a brutal arm yanking hit that would wear my old ass out everytime I went riding. I always felt like that bike was riding me and would be sore for days. The CR was more of an electric powerband which for me made it much easier to tame. I was much faster on the CR than the YZ, yet the YZ had the most power. Just goes to show you can have the most power but if you aren't able to use it, well then it's worthless.

Do a search on each and think really hard about what you want in a bike. I made the mistake of doing the same research and thought that since the YZ had the most power it was the best bike. The total opposite ended up being true for me and is why I pay ZERO attention to the magazine shootouts now. Think about what you want in a bike and then research to find that.

Which has a stronger mid range? Also Eric Gorr said in his book that the YZ has a flat top end, what did he mean?

The YZ was all mid range. It was flat on bottom and then would hit you with an arm jerking midrange and sign off on top. The Honda had a good pull bottom all the way to the top and seemed to always have power. The YZ required clutching sometimes.

That's why I did better with the Honda. The YZ was more of a Pro style power where the Honda was more for the everyday average rider.
