Outdoor Nats at Thunder Valley

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm hyped on the AMA motocross stop at Thunder Valley, but there's no info on tickets($, when for sale, etc). I've never been to a National (or SX for that matter), so I'd hate to miss one within 30 miles o me casa.

Anyone know the scoop?

Posted by: bedell99

I would say that by the beginning of the nationals we will know everything. That would be May. I have a feeling they are going to be a lot of people there. I'm guessing 15000-20000 people.

I know there will be a NM contingent coming up, we'll bring you guys some of VD's green chili stew

Posted by: HomeMadeSin

hmmmmm, I could dig some chili. I don't know about supa hot chili in the summer though...

I did get to ride the track a couple of weeks ago...definately better than Watkins, IMHO. Going there again on Saturday.

I may be coming up that way Memorial day weekend, (wife wants to do the bolder Boulder) maybe we can get some DRNrs together at Lakewood or Berthoud?

Posted by: super rat

I'm down.

Posted by: Ryone

I'm definitely going to make it to this one. It'll be the first time I've ever seen a pro MX or SX event... not counting freestyle.

I live about an hour south of Denver in Colorado Springs. If I find out anything about tickets I'll let you know.

I'll meet you guys at either track over memorial weekend. Also I was at Lakewood this past weekend and they told me that parking would be at Bandimere and a shuttle would run people back and forth.

Posted by: HomeMadeSin

I was there Sat and will be there again this Sat. Beats the hell outta Watkins.

Nothing new on the Nats. I'll inquire on Sat.

Posted by: bedell99

I was just at lakewood on Saturday, Still has a lot of work to do. I'm definetly down for a little DRN ride.

Erik

Posted by: Shig

I'm down for any weekend DRN ride at Lakewood, too. I'm usually there a couple Sundays a month.

Posted by: super rat

You still going to do the final H/S at berthoud, shig? I was all pumped to go this last Sunday but it got snowed out, I'll be there next weekend.

Posted by: Shig

Hey Rat,
I was hoping to race yesterday, too. I had a feeling that it would be cancelled, so I went to Erie on Saturday instead. Where you gonna pit at the HS? Maybe we can get a DRN pit going.

Posted by: super rat

Right on, I usually park down behind the gate, so my wife doesn't have to walk to far to pit for me. I don't show up until 10:30 or so, I'll save you a spot if I get there first.

Posted by: bedell99

I think we can definetly get something together for a weekend coming up at either at watkins or lakewood. One of the centrally located tracks one weekend coming up. I know Paace/James and I will be down

Erik

Posted by: super rat

I'd love to meet up with Pace and have him show me his penguin slapping skills, his parents must be very proud.

Posted by: pace

I toss a mean seal.

Posted by: super rat

What happened Shig? I didn't see ya anywhere.

Posted by: Shig

Sorry I missed ya, Rat. I got to work all weekend. I tried to PM you on friday, but it didn't go through. How did you do?

Posted by: super rat

Oh, to bad it was a good race, track was good and the weather was ripping! I put a whooping on the boys in the VetB, LOL! Feels good to finally win one.

I hit the only big rock in all of Berthoud, like 15 minutes in, it made for a long day LOL!

Posted by: Shig

Awesome, man! I knew you had it in you. That should move you up in the point standings, too. That peg looks fugly, though. You must be sportin a mean case of monkey butt after sitting for 2 hours.

Posted by: super rat

Thanks Shig. Let me know if you're gonna ride this weekend, I'm gonna try to get down to Lakewood.

Posted by: Shig

Hey Soop,
I'd like to ride Lakewood on Sunday, but there's a couple of inches of snow on the track right now. The weather report calls for more snow tomorrow, too. If the snow melts by Sunday, then I'll see you there.

Posted by: bedell99

How awesome was riding on SUNDAY?? Got to love colorado, 30 degress on day and 70 the next.

Erik

Posted by: Shig

Yeah, pretty cool huh, EB. Too bad the folks at Lakewood decided close up shop. The nerve of those guys to be closed on a beautiful Sunday! I imagine you went to Watkins? Erie was killer yesterday.

Posted by: bedell99

I went to Erie with alot of people from Vail. Erie was prepped amazing. Corners actually had water in them.

Erik

Posted by: Shig

Oh, snap!! I was there on Sunday, too. It took me all day to connect that damn triple in the new rythm section. That track has come along way over the past year.

Posted by: bedell99

That was you on that 64, dope. You drive a ranger. I parked right next you. I was the guy on the CR250 with the other guy who jumped it on the YZ125. You ride pretty good.

Erik

Posted by: Shig

Thanks, Cuz. Yeah, I remember you guys now. Your buddy has brass ones for doing that jump on a 125! We're gonna have to get everyone together for a DRN track day soon.

Posted by: bedell99

Can't wait Shig

Damn Rat, I was looking forward to.......well you know.......

Posted by: super rat

No not really but you can still come up here and ride, and you know.... ride or not.

Posted by: bedell99

Hey doesn anybody know if he is going to change the track. Maybe actually add a real jump and make the thing longer. I spoke to him about 3 months ago and he mentioned that first he had to take care of the facility and then he was going to concentrate on the track.

I sure hope so, I can't imagine having a National there in its current configuration.

Posted by: Ray3667

don't worry guys . a friend of mine works at the city (lakewood). he said the track will change.. it has to be 30-45 seconds longer for a national.

Posted by: bedell99

Compared to the tracks national tracks I have seen (Southwick, Binghampton and Englishtown(National calibir)) lakewood is way to short and not difficult at all. A normal guy can go to that track and by the end of the day have it down. He has to add jumps that only the top pros will do and not some schmoe like me can show up and do.

Erik

Posted by: Ray3667

not all the tracks are that difficult ... some of the tracks on the circuit are almost all natural and have very few jumps. I do know when its raced (got third in my class last year) it becomes very rough and choppy, much like other nationals.. I had some buddies years ago that raced in a few nationals, he said (and i had a hard time buying this) that PMI was the most like a national track . I personally hope that he goes south of the main track and incorperates some of the kiddy track that is there , just to spread it out

Posted by: bedell99

Ray you are absoultly right about some track not having jumps,(for example southwick) but southwick has sand which get unbelieveable after a while and is much longer. Unadilla is undadilla, nuf said and washougal is so beatiful who needs jumps there. Lakewood has no distinct personality except it is at altitude. As of right now what would you think if you where you where RC and pulled up to lakewood.
