76 cr250m kick start gear problems

Folks,
I have a '76 cr250m that is jumping gears when you kick start it. It is like some teeth are broken. Inside, not on the teeth the lever goes on. Otherwise, trans seems really good and shifts great. What will it likely be and can I expect to be able to get the parts from Honda? Anyone have part #s? Anything used available. Your input will be greatly appreciated before I tear into it.
