It has trouble shifting into neutral. How hard is it to rebuild a transmission. It also pops out of gear when you get up into fourth. It is almost like it just all the sudden pops into neutral any suggestions on fixing it? RSVP

Sounds like you'll probably need a shift fork, and maybe one or two gears. Hope they're still available. However, it could also be the shifter mechanism in the case need to be re-centered. Get a Clymer manual, it's not a hard job , just hard to explain wif out pictures.

Already have the manual. I think I will wait until winter to start work on the tranny as it is still functional. I have to decorbonize the piston and the cylinder wall. I guess I have not been reving it high enough. I have it all pulled apart to look inside but I will have to take the head off. The top of the piston is pretty black. The wall looks fine and the side of the piston looks all right just the top is black. I hope I do not blow the engine up I just rebuilt it after I got it from my brother. Anyways thanks for the advice on the transmission. Things keep going wrong with this bike. It is like this
I will have it restored perfectly though by Christmas.

I just rebuilt a 1974 dt100 and a 1973 DT250. Not a hard job at all. The 100 is a little tougher only because the parts are smaller. Just be very gentle.
Definetly get an impact srewdriver. Be carful putting shift actuator togather. If its anything like the 73, tolerances are very tight. If the shift lever rod is pushed in before putting the case together, the actuater will touch the clutch basket or spring will come off.
