Oh man,you guys will love Northumberline trails. I just got home from a ride there with Chalie
Thanks a bunch for showing me around there today Chalie.
Anytime you want to ride that I'm available, I'm definately in.
Wooooooooooohooooooooooooo..............I FEEL GOOOD !!!!!!

Posted by: John Cena

Sounds like you had a blast, did you get any pictures? Any hill climbs? I need a new tire before I can ride again. Riding around Paris last week my tire looks like a street tire now, no tread left.

Posted by: Speedfreek

It was a blast There is a few good hills there, some sand tracks and millions of trails.
You must be talking about your front tire being bald, right?
You just put a new rear tire on last month didn't you?

Posted by: John Cena

Oh no its my rear thats bald. It's all my falt though smoking up the streets. i'm going to local bike dealer they through out a crap load of tires maybe I can find a descent one

Posted by: Speedfreek

Hey look my rear is bald too

Posted by: John Cena

Posted by: chalie

Yes it was an awesome ride! Thanks again for coming speedfreak. Most fun all year!
There are millions of crazy trails and sick climbs rangeing from "that was a great climb!" to "what the hell was i thinking"
I'll send speedfreak a few pics to post when i get home, of some views from the tops of the trails and stuff, but i have none of the interiors where all the action happens as i've never wanted to stop in there long enough to take any pics (having too much fun)

Be home in a few hrs.

Posted by: Speedfreek

Hey Chalie,
How's your knee today?

Posted by: John Cena

What happened to Chalie knee?

Posted by: chalie

High speed accident on the ol' knee. Tried to get up too fast or something working on car the day before riding with speedfreak lol. Not moto related but the ride aggrivated it for a while. Feels great, thanks for asking. Guess i twisted it the wrong way and popped something outa place,
Damn, the anatomy of the knee is more complicated than my transmission! Who knows what i did.

Posted by: John Cena

You guys heading back up there again soon?

How far is this place from your house Lee?

Posted by: Speedfreek

It's about 1 hr 45 minutes from me,but worth every minute of the drive. You would love this place Lee jr. I'm thinking next Saturday will be the next ride up there.Maybe you and Chris can meet us up there? I called Milly tonight and I'm waiting for him to call me back, maybe if Chris doesn't feel like going Milly can pick you up.All the spots on my trailer are already spoken for

Posted by: Speedfreek

Hey Chalie,
I put a shift kit in my th400,maybe I can fix your knee

Posted by: John Cena

Where the pictures at?

Posted by: chalie

I finally got around to mailing a few to speedfreak about 5 minutes ago, (sorry it took so long) so he'll probably post em later tonight i'm guessing.

Posted by: John Cena

Can you email me the pics?

Posted by: chalie

I posted a bunch here... http://spaces.msn.com/members/chuckeieio/

Posted by: John Cena

Wow looks like an amazing place to ride!

Posted by: John Cena

Well I just ordered a Kenda Trackmaster 2 rear tire cost $57. Maybe Chris's bike is working and he will go up.

Posted by: Speedfreek

It's an awsome place to ride, you will love it
Not a bad price on a rear tire Just let Chris know these trails go a long way from where we park and towing it up a few of the hills might be pretty impossible

Posted by: Speedfreek

Chalie has the pics in that link so I won't bother posting them.
Nice job with those pics Chalie

Hey don't be scaring Chris away. How big are some of these hills? Would a 25 foot rope reach from bottom to top? Maybe 50 foot of rope? . Lee how far is Barrie from your place? Just trying to get an idea of distance.

Posted by: Speedfreek

50' should be fine...........lol

Posted by: John Cena

Lol! Here's my tire after riding in Paris all week. . http://home.cogeco.ca/~lleepp/P1030553.JPG

Posted by: Milhaus

Lee, you're in the wrong sport with that tire...You should be doing Supermoto or supermotard whatever they call it.
BTW, are you riding on the road? Dont you have cops where you are?

Posted by: John Cena

Yep only the OPP I think but they don't really care. I was riding out in Paris pretty much the country, all back roads I had my headlight and rear brake light fender on

Posted by: chalie

Ill bring some rope

Posted by: John Cena

If Chris goes do any of you have a pair of tire Irons, I could use to put my tire on when we get there? I meant to buy some but I won't if someone else has a set I can use.

Chris if you go i'll donate $20 for gas.

Posted by: Speedfreek

I have some tire irons,if you need them send me an e-mail on friday so I can remember to bring them. You should probably get yourself a new tube "just in case"

When we goin?

Posted by: John Cena

I don't think i'll be going, I havn't heard from Chris! Think I'm gonna spend my money on a new kickstarter when I pick up my tire tommorow unless Chris post hes going. Any of you guys got Chris's phone number to see if his bikes working, if he's going riding?

Later all! Have fun!

Posted by: Speedfreek

When did you want to go Chalie,Saturday was the day I was thinking?
Lee jr, I'll look around for oldschool's number .I know I had it at one point.

Posted by: John Cena

Have fun guys. Weather forcast predicts 60% chance of rain friday and 80% for Sat. Could be a muddy one.

Posted by: chalie

Why sunday Lee? Big card game on saturday night?
You know i'll never let you live that one down

Well, so far Sunday looks "A" ok for me. I'll call ya Saturday to confirm.

Anyways I ordered a new kick-starter $95 more down the toilet. I also got my new rear tire on with 2 small flat head screw drivers, didn't pinch my tube damn I’m getting good at tire changes.

Posted by: chalie

Ohhhhh damn! I need my eyes checked there Speedfreak!
I'd swear that said sunday!. sorry. Well if saturday is the best for you, then saturday it be. I'll just have to stay half assed sober tomorrow.lol

Posted by: Grimm250

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if you could give me directions to this riding zone you guys are heading too. I also ride a 250 and would be very interested on a bike journey. Some of my "moto" friends tell me that there is another location near steels and Milton where you can ride. I will check this place out for myself and let u know if it is any good, or not. (Directions will be posted as soon as possible)

Thanks: Mike

Posted by: John Cena

Here we go.

Northumberland Provincial Forest

Coming from Toronto, drive down the 401 towards Kingston. Once at the town of Colbourg, take HWY 18 north to the intersection of 18 and 74 (the town of Precious corners) and go right across 74 about 8 km until you come to hwy 15. Head north up 15 (left) towards hwy 9. About 10 minutes later, keep your eyes peeled for a small country road on the right side called Turk rd. It is very easy to miss and if you come to hwy 9, you have gone about 5 minutes past it. Turk rd. runs beside the hydro lines and into the parking area where the Northumberland trails start. Here you will find a man made motocross track and large rolling hills with much potential for free riding! Following the hydro clearance will lead you to a fantastic trail network which is maintained in part by the lakeshore dirt riders club. The trails range from tight single track to wide open fire roads. Total driving time from T.O. to Northumberland is about 1 1/2 hours. Well worth it!

What/where's Steels?

Posted by: chalie

Not that your directions are wrong John, but they are very complicated and i havn't heard of that way in before.

Directions to Northumberland forest...

Simply drive east on hwy 401 to cobourg and go north on hwy45 for about 15 min. As you are driving north you will see a road called Woodland Rd. (it is just after Elder Rd) turn Right and park anywhere in that clearing (not really a road)

The motocross track John speaks of is on the opposite side of hwy 45 back about 1k to morris rd. It hasn't been groomed this year, so it really isn't worth visiting as some of the trails near where you parked are twice as aggressive anyway, and go like a bloody neverending maze for over 100k to Campbellford and Hastings. Whooped out side trails EVERYWHERE, so go explore em!
Beware not to get too adventerous as i've been going there for years and still can get way lost with very little effort.
A G.P.S. Will be my next toy added so i can freely explore all the hidden goodies without fear of running out of gas looking for the exit where i left my car.
Morris Rd is a good place to park too. It's back about a k from Woodland Rd and just like Woodland Rd you don't actually follow Morris Rd, you turn into the little field to the right of hwy 45 at Morris and park there. From there you can go either to the East of 45 (same trail series as up the road ) or to the west to follow trails near hydro lines into the MX track.(also a wide array of trails there too)

Posted by: chalie

Speedfreak. Sorry but i'm unable to make it saturday. I've made an appointment with the people i'm buying the house from to go over some details. I figure it's going to be pretty messy anyway. Messy... That could be a wicked ride you know
Any hoo. Call me or message me about sunday and let me know if you want to go. I'm not even sure myself at this moment.

Next weekend looks like clear sailing on the long range forcast. Cool n dry
It'd be great if we could get a bunch of people there for a day. I got a small gas BBQ and a great recipe for Korean ribs (awesome grilled) I'll buy tons.
Anyone interested, let Speedfreak (his turn to drive) or myself know. If nessisary I can take my trailer and 2 bikes.

Posted by: Speedfreek

No worries Chalie. Good luck with the house stuff.

Grimm, where in Miss r u? I'm at Winston Churchill/Dundas.
I think I heard of the place in Milton too, but fuzzy on the details. Steel City riders have a track I think in Guelph or Hamilton that isnt too far.
Definitely get back with more info on Milton. It would be great to have a place to ride that didnt eat up a half day in travel time!

Posted by: Grimm250

Hey Milhaus, the place in Milton that I was referring to was the clay pits at Tremaine. I went to check this place out today and I could not believe my eyes. At the bottom of the pit on the right side of the road there were 3 undercover cop cars. Standing beside these cars were 7 riders in handcuffs. I really wanted to experiment with this new location today, but with high expectations for police to capture people there, I am not going to risk it. I guess I will continue to look around for a safe alternate location for us all to ride at.

Here are the directions if you would like to check this place out for yourself:
1. Take the highway 401
2. Turn off at highway 401(James snow parkway (4)
3. Turn right
4. Left on steels
5. Past Martin street (O.P.P on left)
6. Past Bronte Street (Railway)
7. Go over tracks
8. Pass blocked off entrance
9. Turn right at Tremaine road

Posted by: John Cena

Sounds like a great place to go riding Grimm250! Who's ready to go there?

I'm not!

Sounds like the cops are cracking down on dirt bikers out there

Posted by: Milhaus

Wow, handcuffs?
Sounds a bit extreme!

Thanks for checking it out, Grimm and for the heads up....I'lll pass too.

You sure you don't want a free pair of bracelets?

Posted by: Speedfreek

Well,atleast they didn't shoot them,
I guess a $5000.00 fine might make cuffs a good precaution

Posted by: Grimm250

I really need to get a good ride in soon, but I don’t want to drive 1 hour to a location. I also don't want to drive for 1 hour only to find out that you can get arrested and fined in 1 day. Do any of you have any suggestions on what areas are still accessible in the Mississauga area? It has been 4 months since I have been up to the hydro wires location on steels, and I am sceptical on whether this place is safe from police, or not? Whenever I drive by that location, I see a lot of thumpers blasting around their and I also see many families hiding along the back alley way. I think I will take my chances next week and go for a ride over there.

Thanks: Mike

Posted by: i_955

Yikes!!!!!

Dam Cops. I get off street bikes because they are all over the sport bike scene.
Now can't go flippin dirt biking without hassles.

$500 for insurance is insane but I guess it's cheaper than not.

Might have to bite the bullet & get a Vespa for the old lady & I to get some two wheeled fun on.

Posted by: Speedfreek

Grimm,
I would say that the only areas that you would be safe from police if you don't have the proper insurance and plates would be private property riding areas like Gopher Dunes for example. If you have the proper paperwork and plate you can ride Public areas like snowmobile trails and such. You won't find any legal places in Missisauga. The closest legal place I know of is in Innisville and you would be required to have plate and insurance to be legal.Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Posted by: Speedfreek

i_955 check with Chalie,he managed to get a very reasonable price on insurance,I think you might even find a post in here with the info.It was much cheaper then you might think.

Posted by: Speedfreek

i_955 here's a link to the insurance post http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/sh...ad.php?t=119063

Posted by: Milhaus

Prob is, Speedfreak, that that same insur. co might not be the best price for your auto insurance if they make you have both through them .
I know I got a quote for auto insur from them a few years ago, it was crazy. Lots of businesses do that....lure you in with a low price on one item then get you on something else more lucrative for them. Its called a "loss leader".

Not trying to discourage anyone, after all its free to call for a quote, but buyer beware!

Grimm, question I have is why do you think they had the guys in Milton in handcuffs? Doesnt seem to be the sort of offense that calls for that kind of reaction. One would think they would slap them with tickets, maybe impound the bikes at the most? We're talking dirtbikers right, not Hells Angels or some other club?
Anyone here ever been to Eagle's Nest near Brantford? Apparently they have free practice days on Wednesdays this month. I heard the track is kinda dry and rough, but the price is right, esp for us West-of-GTA'ers. Gotta have some time off work to go though.

Posted by: John Cena

I remember someone here from ontario went there, thought they got hurt missing a double? You going to Oshweken speedway Milly? I'll look for the post lol

Edit found him! It was Buj20 that went to eagles nest

I can't pm lol

Posted by: John Cena

Hope noone wanted to go riding with me this week i'm going to work in Brantford all week. But I know noone ever want's to ride with me.

Milly, maybe they knew how you drive

Posted by: i_955

Thanks for the insurance info and link. I'll check it out.

I've been to The Eagle's Nest but only as a spectator. Ya, it looks hard pack for sure and I could see how or why the track would get very little maintenance.

It might be worth installing a set of hard terrain tires if you went and set of studs if it was raining.

Thinking about it. Northumberland sounds good, but honestly the drive across the city plus the trip east of it just isnt realistic for me. I'd just as soon check out places around Owensound and stay at the in-laws i.e. Chatsworth Motopark, RPM, Rat Track, plus her uncles 200 acre lot.
Not sure I'm a trails kind of guy. I have a heard time getting the nerves to really pin it when I cant see what/ who's around the next corner.

Lee, it must be lonely when you're too fast for everyone else Kinda like the way noone wanted to play with Gretzky when he as a little kid

Posted by: Grimm250

Hey everyone, it has been awhile since I have been on a good dirt bike ride. I have planned out my schedule and I believe Saturday august 27, 2005 will be the date that I head up to the Eglinton Ave east and Tomken Rd location. I am going to take my chances and ride their, because I have noticed that many people are continuing to ride their and I do not feel like driving far. If anyone is interested in meeting there, give me a shout. If anyone wants to check the place out by aerial photos, use maps.google.com (satellite).

Thanks: Mike

Posted by: Milhaus

Let us know how it goes, Mike.
I get the itch to ride somewhere close too, but its just not that great fo a riding spot IMO, to justify the risk with city cops. I'd be more likely to go to the Burlington clay pits instead.
The last time I was at Innisfil riding, cops turned up late in the day, but only to tell people they were making too much noise near the houses.

Posted by: John Cena

lol Id hit burlington clay pits with you guys.

Posted by: Milhaus

Sounds good, Lee. They cant give us all tickets can they? LOL!
Mike, an update on your ride in Miss, or was it cancelled due to weather?
Curious, what part of Miss do you live in? I'm in Erin Mills.

Posted by: Grimm250

Hey Milhaus, I have not headed out for my ride yet, but I will be headed to the power station August 27, 2005. If you are wondering where I am located, I am near the Streetsville area. I am sorry I cannot give you my full address and the reason is because my parents are strict. I am only 18, so they are a little protective of me. This comment is not directed at you Milhaus, but everyone on dirtrider in general, my parents just think it is better not to give out where I live for many reasons. On second thought, I am getting insurance soon, so I can risk riding around over at the hydro station knowing that I have insurance to back me up.

Posted by: Milhaus

Relax grimm, just wondered what general vicinity you were in in Miss., not a specific address its a big place.
Your parents are right, noone should be posting their addresses on the web for so many reasons. And you should carefully scrutinize anyone that would ask for a specific address.

Dont forget though even with insurance, you can still get a ticket for trespassing, probably disturbing the peace/noise pollution as well if the cop was pissed off.

Posted by: Grimm250

Thanks for the heads up Milhaus, I will take that into consideration when I ride their next saturday. I also wanted to say sorry for over reacting on the address specifications.

Milhaus, do you have insurance on your bikes?

Posted by: Milhaus

No prob, Grimm.
I dont have insur on my bikes currently. My car insurer unfortunately quoted me about 750 per yr for bike insur, so I opted not to do it. I might get a quote on car and bike insurance through another company, but it will have to be pretty competitive for me to switch over. Otherwise I'll just pay to use private tracks, as I prefer them to trails anyways for safety reasons. I'm about as anti-insurance as anyone can be.

Posted by: John Cena

Hey whats up everyone? Have any of you been doing some riding?

Posted by: Peer Lovell

Do you mean "Northumberland Forest"?

Posted by: Speedfreek

Yeah,I think it's called "Northumberland Forest"

John, we went to innisville last weekend and we'll probably go to Northumberland forest this coming weekend. We were planning to go to Gopher dunes last time out,but we found out at last minute that they don't open until 11am on weekends

Nope, we were going to go riding Sun. morn, but the day got away on us...Looking forward to Sept and OCt. rides when the kids are back at school.
Wow, I955, your Triumph is the sweetest thing (next to a Hayabusa!)!

My absolute favorite time to ride -- BAR None...
Cool weather, some good rains to keep the dust down/moisten the ground for good traction, a full season of practice under our belt etc.

Milhaus, have we met? If not we must.

What do you know of the Tona?

You have a Bus and a wife that rides! Why have we not crossed paths already? My wife rides a (just sold her 95 KX250 yesterday) 2001 KX100 and a VFR800.

Posted by: Milhaus

Sounds good, I955

I've loved what they've done to the Triumphs for a few years now. Ever since I rode a speed triple. In fact, it caused me to put off buying a Duck. The Triumphs just fit a bigger guy so much better than any of the Ducks do. Not as nimble mind you, but awesome weight placement (stability) for a street and drag bike, and without the reliability issues.
I actually dont have a busa, its just up there with the Triumphs at the top of my shopping list (with a Seadoo as well) No room in the garage for it all now
Where do you ride (dirt), I955? Somewhere around K/W/C, I believe?

Posted by: i_955

Hey,

Just getting back from taking my boy to the Eagles Nest, closed!!! Due to the whole field being a swamp.

I'm just getting back into the sport after a 27yr hiatus.
Finding places to ride has been a pain, everyone that has a nice private track doesn’t like being passed so I haven’t been invited back. There are 3 private tracks I’ve been riding and 2 closed due to ridiculously loud 4 strokes. Only one more and the owner said he is getting noise complaints so I don’t know how much longer we can ride there. That is where I broke my leg and I simply love the track.
I was going to join the TVR MX club to find more tracks but the season started last weekend & I’m side lined from jumping for another month I’d imagine (1st ever broken leg) so racing is obviously out.
I’ve been to the Buckhorn snowmobile club trails a couple times last year with my 380 KTM but the whole insurance rip-off thing has kept me out of the forest this year. That and the thought of a head-on with a quad or worse, an equally rippin 2 wheeler. Me and my buddy road in 26km and I lost my gear shifter. That was not fun ridding out, but it gave me an eye opener as to how far we were into the middle of NO-WHERE. Bugs were as worse as I’ve ever seen.

When my leg gets better lets get together.

Chow…
