I have my 73 running, what a hill climbing monster it turned out to be!! I took 2 teeth off the front sprocket and the front wheel wants to come up in 3 gears.
I have recently adjusted the clutch according to the manual specs. I'm not sure it is totally disengaging. If I start the bike in gear (with the clutch pulled in) it wants to jump forward for a couple seconds.Also. when the clutch is pulled in (engine not running) and I push the bike, the engine turns over 2 or 3 times before it releases. Is this normal or do I need to turn the adjustment screw in a little more??

Normal really, these clutches were not really effective while not spinning.Had a 78 model YZ that did it from new.Adjusting the clutch up too much will give you slip.Just kick it in neutral and engage gear. Will only really work if you stall and kick it straight away with clutch in.I think new bikes have spoilt us from the rough and tumble world

Just to give you a heads up.There are 2 inherent clutch failure traits with these. One is push rod bending on the exposed part of the rod, sticks rocks, chain coming off will all do it as will over adjusting so there is no free play and pressure is always constant on shaft. We tried hardenning pushrods with a limited success, and we were probably lucky we never snapped the side casing or worse. The other is bolts falling out from back of casing and the extra flex from not being anchored when pushrod is pushed.Surprising how much pressure it actually takes to push one of those things in,they can snap casings if they are not anchored down.Even when anchored have a look at the flex when you pull in clutch, sometimes they even groan if grease has dried up on end of rod.

Thanks for the info and heads up. Clutch rod was bent. I tookof that with a hamer. I am keeping my eye out for a new one. I definetly will keep and eye on the bolts.
Thanks again
