I have assumed the position of race director at a local kids racing organization.
There seems to be a lot of cheating in respects to overbored bikes.
Other then tearing down bikes does any know of a device that I can use to measure bore and stroke thru the spark plug hole.
I have heard some race organizations use a certain type of borescope that will measure a point to point refrence.
Thanks

That is kind of sad, it is amazing what people will do for a stupid plaque or trophy.

A friend of mine has a borescope and used it to take these pictures of the inside of his CRF250X top end. He said it will make measurements, but I don't know exactly what kind. The borescope is an Everest VIT 3.9mm. His original post is on another message board.

I'm not sure if a video borescope is going to work for what you want it to. It seems that most of the ones that can take measurements will only cover a small area. Maybe a few milimeters. also the tend to be very $$$

Just start tearing them down.
Do you have a protest rule?

I have worked with Borescopes exclusely at work.....Everest and Olympus. They can do a lot of stuff that will blow you away. And yes, one of the features is taking measurements. We use em on jet engines.

I once had a discussion with Kevin Cameron (Cycle, C.W. "T.D.C." columnist) about a device known as a "whistler" that used the coke bottle whistle method of determining a 4-stroke's displacement. You know, it depends on how much AIR volume is in a coke bottle what frequency (pitch) the sound is when you blow across the top. My conversation about this was over 15 years ago and apparently these devices were quite commonly used at the Saturday night local roundy-round 4-wheeler tracks back then to weed out the cheaters, or at least confirm that a tear down was warranted.
