New CR500AFX Enduro model

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: cujet

I just discovered the CR500AFX Enduro model. I called Service Honda about it and the salesman gave me some info. It uses a CRF250X rolling chassis with the 500 engine shoe horned in

It comes with an 18 inch rear wheel (enduro style) and the OEM Honda lights, including that way cool LED tail light.

Being that it is based on the 250X chassis, it should be really comfortable (important to me) and very well set up for agressive play riding.

The salesman said that there will be a magazine test on the bike soon. However, being that I am looking for a new bike, I do not want to wait 4 months for the test to be printed.

Does anyone here have any info on the bike, or how well the CR500 engine works in the 250X chassis? Do you know anyone who owns one?

Thanks,

Chris

i know the crf250 works great because i have a 2005 cr500af (service honda uses the crf250 for the af and the crf250x for the cr500afx) and the bike is great but plan on getting a larger tank

I've ridden the AF "R" and AF "X".

Service Honda has a DIGITAL ignition that makes this bike seem slower. . . when its actually FASTER. Its so bloody smooth its insane. The power. . . forget aboudit! SERIOUSLY the most bitchen bikes I've ever ridden.

I own a 95 Steely, and the power is GREAT. . . but until you ride what Service Honda offers. . . and I'm not talking a do it yourself engine swap. . . thats NOT what this bike is about. They have put so much time and effort into engineering this bike. . . dont mess with any others. My 95 engine, in a less then perfectly engineered frame. . . is NOT what Service Honda is about. Their motor, in an exquisite package.

. . . its like Driving a Mustang GT verses a Shelby GT500KR. Sure the GT is nice, and the GT may be what is affordable. . . but who wants to drive an everyday car, that you will pull up to a light, and see the exact same thing sitting next to you?

I would love one but i can not street legalize a 2 stroke where i am. Its a nice bike but the KDX500 is even better. It a KX500 in a KXF450 frame with lights, flywheel weight, and all those off road goodies.

BDN since you have ridden this bike already. Any idea on how would it compare to the other two strokers? KTM and Gas Gas 300's. What type of riding do you do? I race enduro on what you guys call eastern type of terrain. Snotty, roots, rocks, tight trails. I imagine this bike was made for open terrains, desert etc. Thanks!
