I grabbed a copy of the new dirtrider with the reviews and it sounds like they liked YOUR entry. I haven't had time to read all the articles but I was impressed with one theme in the article.

QUOTE from the Dirt Rider Magazine article:

I was honored to be chosen to test this bike. Not only because it was functional in every way intended, but after I scoured the message boards after testing I came away just as impressed with DRN's members and their unusual Internet attitudes. Not once did I find a smidgeon of smack talk toward any other bike throughout their threads on the project. Not once did I see an out-of-context remark blown out of proportion. No, as I lurked through their pages of content I felt like I was in an informative, mature meeting place where people could share their views and opinions- very rare in the internet world today. Other boards should take notice.

The Dirtrider.net/Service Honda CR500AFX is a bold blend of old and new, crazy and smart, Silly and functional. Sort of, I suppose, like the internet message board it came from. Good job DRN, you built a helluva bike out of what most people consider a dead horse, and you gained a new message board member: Me.

Once again everyone on the board, thanks for showing what we truly are here at DRN

Sweet. A huge thumbs-up to all DRN'ers

Posted by: CaptainObvious

Welcome aboard Jesse.

Posted by: biglou

Sweet! Welcome aboard. Looks like I need to head to the store for a copy!

Posted by: RM_guy

Cool!

Posted by: JPIVEY

Hey, How cool is that, DRN should be proud in more ways than one, top notch bike put together by a top notch website, run by a top notch owner and moderators.

Posted by: bsmith

Sounds Awesome can't wait to pick up a copy!!

Posted by: DWreck

I've been checking my mail box daily looking for the new issue.

I enjoyed watching the bikes come together at all of the sites involved.

There is no telling how many hours of my life I have wasted day dreaming and talking to riding buddies about what the perfect bike would be if money was no object.

Posted by: Crispy

Wow - a huge compliment! I am really proud of everyone in the DRN family!!! Nice work everyone. And thanks Aj, for building DRN a great bike (and for representing DRN as well as you did)

Posted by: toddb3

Cant wait to read the full write-up!!

Posted by: GETMETOCA

Looking forward to getting my issue in the mailbox.

Posted by: squeaky

Awesome! Great job everyone who was involved!

Posted by: Patman

Dang the no delivery yet!

Posted by: Patman

Bless the delivery of scanned pages! Pretty awesome article and contrary to what I thought would happen it appears they were pretty straight forward in their comments. Just as the original intent was put forward the bikes were reviewed as a whole and not "against" each other in come kind of competition. They called the good and the bad of each and while it might not be the result everybody was hoping for it does seem to be an honest presentation of what they experienced.

This is the August issue correct? Just got back from the stores and we still have the July issue on the shelf

Posted by: Wolf

Dealers should have them on the shelf...I doubt they will hit regular stores for a while yet.

Posted by: kmccune

That is a great big, well deserved pat on the back for ya Okie!

I have no idea if my mag came I've been in scenic Detroit Lakes, MN for the last two weeks

Posted by: Okiewan

pat on the back for me? No way, it's for the DRN'ers, Service Honda, Eric Gorr and Jeremy Wilkey. Everyone that was involved KNOCKED-IT-OUT.

Posted by: Grady

To all involved!

Posted by: Moteaux

Great job to all that brought this together. I am wanting to get my hands on a copy of the mag also, but as usual, I am out here drilling a hole in the ground.

Moteaux! Your professional mud tester.

Posted by: MXGirl230

Finally got our copy today, great article. I have only read about the DRN bike. That was the first thing I read in the whole mag! Sweet looking bike. I would ride it if someone could start it for me! Although it would kill me on the MX track.

Posted by: ComradeMikhail

Got my copy today, from what I read it sounded like a great bike. Congrats to all the members that helped put it together!

The TT crowd seem to be a little upset

Yes it would appear that is the case, perhaps even a understatement. I can appriciate their frustration to some level but personally I can't relate to them trying to take it out on Jimmy Lewis by trying to spin some kind of tale about him riding on closed land. Obviously they are missing some key information that might make that rant a bit embarassing to some people.

Heck there was some misunderstanding or frustration when the bikes were delivered if I recall as it was also mentioned in the article.

Also attempting to create some justification or maybe place blame because the AFX read over 96dB seems to show some level of misunderstanding regarding how the enforcement is done. This link http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/sh...ad.php?t=136251 might help some folk understand it a little bit.

Overall I think it was a positive for all the sites involved but a lack of communication seems to have caused some reactions from day 1 to take place that might not really be fully based on facts.

Man the Drama Public responce by the other site <--Link

Just FYI

Patman I appreciate your link and explain on the db/sound issue, I agree with it. I am in agreement with stealth 100%, I find the hardest to convince is our own community. Personally I see what is going on over there is reflective to the wrong side of the community and that is sad. Personal Opinion only

Posted by: Okiewan

In case any DRN'ers feel the need to get involved in the firestorm over there, I sure can't stop you, but will respectly ask that any comments you make do NOT appear to be speaking for or on behalf of, DRN. We aren't going to get involved with that stuff, cool?

Posted by: ArmPump

Sweet read from an owner of a 2000 Service Honda 500 AF unit. I love my bike and would only get off it for a newer 500AF. The article points out what we www.CR500Riders.com folks knew all along!

Kudos!

Posted by: Okiewan

And about the sound ... we won't send a bike out next time (if there is a next time) without doing our own sound testing. While an exhaust sytem can come in at it's rated levels, when put on a specific bike there can be flux ... we will ensure our entry will come in below whatever the law requires (yes, the DRN AFX DID). In fact, we'll make a REAL effort to balance power and as little noise as possible. 92-94 dB should be the target.

Cool by me, I went over and read it and that was good enough for me

What was the deal about going OB on some trails , anybody know ??

Posted by: Okiewan

Yeah, we know what went down but, we'll let JL respond to the whole thing, if he decides to, it's really not our place. They are ripping on a guy who spends a TON of time trying to do the right thing for our sport.

I agree
I apologies if I posted something I should not had, It was not my intent. I do not think I need to say anything about what is being posted, people can draw there own conclusion, it is pretty juvenile though.

Anyway, I have not read the article yet, I am looking forward to it, I am really interested in how the ktm guys did....

Posted by: Okiewan

That wasn't aimed at you jwl... just a general comment.

Understood,
What I do not understand is this.
This is a shoot out (Invite) and this is being read by I assume 100 of thousands of readers (Subscribed Dirt Rider Mag)

Now a vast majority of these readers will venture off to said mentioned forums and read comments. I do not think I need to elaborate anymore....

Posted by: bsmith

and we'll be ready for them

They can get a good pregame look at one forum and a good post game look on another

Posted by: rick#3

Posted by: AJ Waggoner
