That is World Champion David Thorpe's 1986 500cc works bike.

As for the tank, they raced long motos back then. I think 45 minutes. 500cc works bike + sand track + long moto = very expensive custom tank!

Are you sure it isn't his '85? Honda usually ran tank graphics for the following year on the works bike and those look like the 86 production colors. Just a hunch so I thought I'd ask.
