Silencer Repacking

I need do this pretty soon, I have an FMF Shorty Silencer and planned on buying performance packing from FMF. Any thoughts on this or packing from other brands. I have also heard of guys using R13 or R19 house insulation instead of the designed packing.

The packing is denser than house insulation and thus will last longer without blowing out the silencer.

I've used a couple different brands of packing and noticed little difference.

A lot of people use home insulation including myself. If you think it should be more dense then use more. It works perfectly and it's just about free. Also try fiberglass pipe insulation, heard from a good source that it works as well.

I use the two stroke FMF packing. I have nothin but good things to say about it.

Been using home insulation for years with no problems. I also never have any excessive sound issues when being tested by California park rangers.
