Hey, my dad owns a 1978 yamaha dt 400. we have recently restored the bike but this afternoon when we went to ride it for the firt time since the rebuild it wouldnt move. When it is in gear it doesnt go forward. We took the clutch cover off and found that we were able to rotate the pressure plate while the clutch is disegaged. We ajusted everything up correctly and all the springs, plates, friction discs were all in service limit. does anyone no why its slipping so bad and how to fix it.

Hmm.
Are you saying you can spin the inner portion of the clutch by hand at will, or does the whole basket spin freely?

HOw far apart did you guys have the engine? Were the cases split?

Im guessing its some type of assembly error, maybe a missing disc/washer in the basket or deeper if you were in the cases.

If you pull the plug to relieve the commpression, can you turn the engine over by spinning the outer clutch basket?

yes, im saying i can spin the inner portion by hand, not the whole clutch assembly. the cases werent split. And yes if i take the spark plug out i can turn it over.
