Front Sprocket Trouble

I received my new front renthal sprocket today and to my surprize the new sprocket had gear like shaft splines. The shaft on my bike has the big wide splines: a KX250r 2001. Any ideas why this is like this? The new sprockets pack states that it is for my year range bike but it just does not match up.

Wouldn't be the first time I've seen the wrong part in the right package.
