6th Annual DRN Fox Valley Offroad Ride - June 21-23 '07!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: biglou

The 6th Annual DRN Fox Valley Offroad ride at Wardy's park is scheduled for Thursday, June 21st, through Saturday, June 23rd!

www.foxvalleyoffroad.com is located in Wedron, IL, just north of I-80, about 1 hour south-west of Chicago. Miles of trails, stadium style MX track, kids only track, plus camping, fireside stories, and having a good time! Hotels also located in Ottawa, IL (10 minutes away). I think the park is closed on Thursdays, so we'll have the place to ourselves on that day! Wardy also has a Megacross race Saturday night the 23rd (www.megacross.com). Megacross is about 25 minutes from the park for anyone who wants to race, or watch some of the best racing under the lights in the Midwest before they head home!

Here's the roster so far - who else is in??

Ja, we'll be there, of course.
I also think that the Captain needs to show his ugly mug in the midwest again, with son.

I may drag my brother along with me..

Wolfy-Call the good captain and have him check in.

The call was made.

Connor is playing select soccer this summer. The first tournament is on the above noted weekend. Soccer WILL interfere with riding until August.

That doesn't mean that I might not fly out to drink a beer or three on Thursday night.

I'll keep you informed.

Hey Hell i might show up? never know. :P

Posted by: oldguy

I am going to try being there but I doubt Spider will be back riding again that early- but who knows stranger things have happened at these rides in the past.

Posted by: Zoomer

Put it on the calender, start of Hurricane season, which has screwed up lots of plans in the past.
Barbs even got a four (wheeler) now so she can have some fun to!

Posted by: biglou

Four weeks to go...

I will arrive around midnite Friday nite this year (new job), ride Saturday at FVOR and race at Megacross Saturday night.

Posted by: KelvinKDX

I put it on the schedule. Not 100% sure I can make it but I will try. It's been several years since I made it out to Wardy's.

Posted by: motometal

I'm in. Same bikes as last year, the good old '03 CR250 and the "mini", RM85L.

It sounds like Jake and Steve are coming too (these guys have both been to Dirtweek several years). Jake traded his 100,000 lap CRF450 for a new CRF450. It's hard to say which bike Steve will bring...he has a few.

Those of you that haven't posted when you are arriving, could you post when you will be arriving as soon as you know? It's looking like Thursday and maybe even Wednesday evening for us, departing Saturday or Sunday.

Also, my wife may come along. She hasn't really met any of you guys (and gals), and every time I go to one of these DRN events I come home talking about how great all the folks are. The only thing is, she isn't big on camping without access to a shower. Does the office have showers? We would be happy to chip in a bit extra $ for the use of showers.

Oh yea...and Lou, I look forward to hearing about the new job! Are you sure you won't be feeling a bit "ill" on that Friday ?

Posted by: MXSparx

We're pulling in Wed. night riding FVOR Thur., Fri., Sat.,, racing MegaX Sat. night leaving sometime on Sunday.
Scott, your wife is more than welcome to use our indoor plumbing at the Super 8 .

Posted by: motometal

thanks! that wouldn't be the first time, right?

Posted by: WaltCMoto

Im a hopefull on Thursday and Friday. Saturday is Bobs High School graduation and Stephs middle school graduation combo party. Ive got to go over my responsibilities for Friday before committing on how long I can be there.

Posted by: oldguy

If we make it we won't get there any earlier then Friday afternoon. Hope Spider can make his return to racing on Sat at Mega cross if he feels good on the bike at Fox Valley

Posted by: nikki

We were talking about the Fox Valley ride today.... I think me, Buko, and the Mayor are gonna arrive Thursday evening, riding FVOR on Friday (and maybe Saturday morning), and racing Megacross on Saturday night. Red's gonna try to get off of work too. Also have a few freinds that might come out with us. We've talked to some people that say the new Fox Valley track changes are really cool, so we're looking forward to checking it out! Lou - you should develop a nasty cold on Thursday at work Do you still have Lil Timmy? Megacross is running their thumper and pitbike classes that night...

Posted by: ChopperDave

Dang, vacation time for me won't be renewed till the end of July! Must beg boss for a couple days off! Martina is determined to come with me this year.

If the boss lets me off, we will arrive Wed night, and start the pre-party festivities!

Posted by: Wolf

I think we'll be a Thursday night arrival, or Friday late morning. Depends on my schedule...and I'm not sure who's in charge of that...?

Posted by: Rich Rohrich

Wolf are you going to bring your trials bike?

I wasn't planning on bringing Timmy, but I might now, it depends on how energetic I feel Friday after work.

I'll check on time off, as I don't know what the attendance policy is, but overall, things seem really laid back.

Oh, and MM better race it too if I do!

Posted by: BUK0138

All this Stupid talk !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What about FOOOOOD!!!!

Posted by: Wolf

Rich, yes, we'll bring the trials bikes. I know there are a few logs we can trip over...

Posted by: whenfoxforks-ruled

Can first year guys come too!

Posted by: BUK0138

I am going out on a limb here ... but I think its open to everyone ... thats why they moved it to this forum......Big Lou is the man with the plan ...... check with him for the details!

Posted by: Zoomer

Hey Chopper Dave,
Can I give you a call??
We are (the Family) driving down to Tenn that week to have a look around (north/NE with in 1 to 1.5 hours from Nashville airport)
Actually was looking to start in your area, look at land, and end up back at Wardys on thursday (where I will hopefully dump my trailer on the way down) If your listening Wardy, is this possible? and safe?)

Any way though i could get some info from you.

My cell is 414-732-6499 or drop me # to call.

Thanks
Mike

Posted by: jaction125

I'll be there to some extent, but I have to work saturday, so I'm not sure what day(s) I'll be there.

Can't wait. I like the track much better since the changes.

Posted by: wardy

Mike, Yes drop the trailer if you wish just let me know so i can have some one there to unlock the gate......Or maybe even leave it at my shop here in mendota, that way i am around it. I am 22 miles from the park

hope to have the rest of the track changes done by that week, see what happens

wardy

Everyone's welcome! It's a great time. I'm bummed that I will only be there for one day, but I wouldn't be driving 1000 miles round trip if it weren't worth it!

Posted by: Zoomer

Thanks Wardy,
Ill get in touch with you. Probably going through friday am sometime, your tele # still 9021 or 9913.
See you then.
Mike

Posted by: ChopperDave

Zoomer- give me a call 931* 436* 1524. I would be happy to show you around. If you had bikes with you the weekend before Wardy's we could even ride at Turkey Bay!

I may not be able to make Wardy's! Boss is not cooperating for time off. We might have to do the Lou trip planning, arrive Friday afternoon.

I need a good pair of a$$-goggles!

Posted by: jaction125

Looks like I will be arriving satuday afternoon, and of course departing sunday afternoon. With a non riding girlfriend and a riding youngster. I may come down for a few hours friday afternoon, but I won't know for sure until friday morning.

What's the plan for a saturday night cookout? Is there a big community one or are we on a fend for ourselves type deal here?

Posted by: whenfoxforks-ruled

Do I hear Saturday night cookout@Megacross!!!!!!!!!!Word of warning,in the pits,no alcohol or pit riding,Yeahhhhhh!

Posted by: biglou

Jaction-We'll be heading to Megacross for the Sat. night races. I can't remember what time we pulled out of FVOR last year to head over to Mendota.

Posted by: MXSparx

SIGN UP 3-5 PM

I forgot about that. I may just try to swing out there friday afternoon then.

The more I think about it, the tougher it'll be for me to swing saturday night anyway. Sometimes it's no fun to be an adult.

Posted by: whenfoxforks-ruled

Well I am definitely up for coming out friday evening for sure!Ryan still has the ebeejeebies about big jumps, but if I drag him out he will be up for it!Oh no,I realized I have NEVER rode that track, got to find the old service honda jersey, wonder if Gerhard has a +47 class yet???

I don't know about any official racing, but I do plan to bring the little yellow machine too.

I hear you on the long driving for motorcycle vacations/mini vacations! Just got back from one that involved over $600 in fuel between my truck and the bikes I rode while I was there. Ouch. But, this is what we do for fun...so be it.

Posted by: biglou

I'm thinking I'll leave the little bike at home. It's going to be a day trip for me, basically. I don't know if I want to drag both bikes up there with just a half day of riding and one race that night. On the other hand... racing the little bikes is SO MUCH FUN it should be illegal. I dunno, I'll decide in two weeks I guess, lol!

Posted by: nikki

Lou - you might have fun in the "thumper" class.... they only run it at a few Megacross races... last time there were 10 thumper riders (mostly old dudes and chicks, and all hondas) and 11 pitbikes... pretty sure they all ran together, two gate drops, and the same heat/main format.... although I think they might have run kinda close to 250C/intermission... so yeah, could make for a tiring night.

Posted by: biglou

I'm in a heckuva lot better shape than I was last year, lol! I can even wear my own gear this year...

I bet I bring the little bike, just in case. Like I said, dicing it up with MM is more fun than adults should be allowed to have! Racing it at MegaX would be a blast, too!

Posted by: motometal

work your magic, Lou. Weasel out of work. You can dooooeeeet man

Posted by: IndyMX

Besides gas & food, how much should I budget for Friday & Saturday for this fiesta?

Posted by: biglou

Just race fees for Saturday night is all I can think of. It's a pretty cheap outing. Oh, and we usually have to find some devious way to make Wardy take some money from us for letting us crash his place.

Posted by: IndyMX

Hmmm... I think I can swing it then...

Gotta save as many dead presidents for the following weekend at Redbud..

Posted by: whenfoxforks-ruled

Ward accepts contributions and redbud takes wheelbarrows!

Posted by: nikki

One week!!!

10-day forecast is calling for mid-80's and sun!

Posted by: ChopperDave

My boss decided to let me off Thurs, so Martina and me will arrive Thurs afternoon. Wahooooooo!!!!!

Lou, I was hoping you would bring the little thumper so Martina can try it. I'm trying to talk her into a new crf150r!

Posted by: MXSparx

We should be pulling in about 48 hours from now

Posted by: oldguy

Dam you all I am out Trudy just reminded me of a commitment that I had completely forgotten about . Spider might still make it down if he can get a friend over 18 to go also. He wants to race MegaX Saturday real bad- would be his return to racing.
If he makes it anybody got a canopy he and a friend can crash under??

Posted by: motometal

I think we will have an easy up....somebody better have one....forecast 93 on Thursday!

Steve, Jake and I plan on arriving mid-day on Thursday.

Posted by: Zoomer

Dave
Trailer is sitting at wardys. Where leaving TN this moring heading back that way. Eric more then welcome to crash under our roll up. Should be in wed late afternoon if Eric wants to ride Wed night with us. Give me a call on the cell.
Tobad you cant make it....

Posted by: biglou

You guys are killin' me over here! The best I can do is shoot for getting out an hour or two early, putting me at FVOR between 10-11pm Friday. I intend to ride the wheels off my bikes Saturday, and race 250C and the pit bike classes at Megacross Saturday night (S-A, T-U-R, D-A-Y...NIGHT!!!!)

CD-I'll have the little bike there. Martina can ride it all she wants.

Save me a beer and some food (any kind) Friday night, eh?!

Posted by: wardy

there is a 150 down there the nieghbor has one and if she is around would let her try it.

Lou, I am sure you are going to have a 24 hour flu on friday. NO WAY you will miss at least one night by the bon fire?

Old guy, committment? hey you are committed to that mud hole on the race track damit, I rebuilt it. :P LOL>

Posted by: MXSparx

Ickynoise bound, see ya'll on the other side

Posted by: whenfoxforks-ruled

Well,I am hoping Brandon wraps up Ryans suspension and I can get off early Friday. And Gerhards affair with mother nature does not wash you guys out tomorrow. My parents live in ottawa and was asking who all was coming for dinner, hah would she be surprised!

Posted by: Mully

I should be arriving really late Thursday night early Friday morning. I am even bringing along a Motor-cross bike.

Mully

PS: Save me a shady - flat spot to pitch my tent.

Posted by: nikki

We'll be there tomorrow evening!!

I'm ready for a mini vacation!

Oh yeah... bring along a rain coat or EZ-up.... forecast looks like we might have a self-watering system for the track and trails.... 30-40% chance of isolated showers.

Posted by: Wolf

We'll be there Friday morning. Oldguy, Spider can crash in our trailer if he wants to. If he needs a ride, let me know, we've got room.
We intened to ride a trials event on Sunday downthere as well (Polo, Il), so I'm wondering who's staying at Wardy's through Sunday morning or if that's even an option.

Posted by: jaction125

Now it looks like I'll be there midday thursday.........if at all........

Posted by: whenfoxforks-ruled

Mully, gas is at 2.87 at the Burr street exit,if it matters!

Posted by: WaltCMoto

Looks like a shower is coming our way, the good news is that it only looks to be a 1 hour deal,

Im hitting the road at 8am. thursday

Posted by: Wolf

Well...this just in...no really...when I say "well" I mean "well".
What I'm trying to say is...my "well" at my house went out and I am trying to get repaired or replaced. This will delay my deparure slightly, as I can't "well" leave wife and daughter at home with out water. We will still roll in on Friday, just don't know when yet....oh well....

So it's a "Known Control" then ?????

Posted by: nikki

Anyone have a chainsaw they can bring so we can have a nice fire?

Posted by: whenfoxforks-ruled

Well I am not for sure where you will pick up 80 or take 30 all the way,but gary has the cheapest gas around here,Burr and 80/94.

Posted by: whenfoxforks-ruled

Nikki, you still need a saw,how about a row boat?I truly wish I was out there,I will rush! And check the radar, lots of rain coming and flashflood warnings behind it!

Posted by: WaltCMoto

We rode all day Thursday in a dust bowl on the track, but the trails were ausome! Wardy preped the track for us thursday afternoon- evening. Thursday 11pm - 3am brought us plenty of rain. By noon friday, the track was back in good shape. Several chain saws had a nice big fire Thursday evening. There were 22 DRN'ers when I had to take off on Friday afternoon. Good rides, good camp fire stories, good friends. doesnt get much better . Thanks Wardy for letting us take over the park There is still Saturday if you can make it.
Walt

Wow! Pretty good turnout.

Nice to meet ya Walt, thanks for not letting me sit by the truck being introverted. Great group of people from the short amount of time I was there, Chopperdave, Motometal, MXSparx, etc.

Thanks to Wardy especially, for letting us take over and spending time working on the track, etc. I'm sure you're a busy guy.

Oh, and thanks for the splash of gas, while I was putting my gear on I knew I was forgetting something.

It really was nice to meet everybody.

Posted by: AJ Waggoner

Friday the trails and track were in real good..shape!! no rain. great day!
very cool to see everyone again, and meet some new faces!

as for happenings-

You'll see shots of a very stuck Mully soon..
While he is no Donny, he did his very best impression ,
and we are all proiud of him..

and Lou (Dorothy) was in route to FVOR,,
got halfway there,,

then suddenly remembered -

Up till 5:45 am with brake issues, resolved.A few phone calls before departure and Gerhards affair with mother nature strikes again!Dang, what did you do to her!Well, seen Bill's new 1983 CR430,stole jerky for Patty, and now try to get to sunset ridge, bonus points race,Gerhard usually shows up with the mighty AF!Yeah baby!

Posted by: biglou

I got about 20-30 miles south of Des Moines at about 4:45 yesterday afternoon and had to pull off into a parking area with everyone else on the hiway. The temp had dropped from 92 to 65 in a matter of about a minute. I was watching the right side plate on my 250 and thought it might blow off while I was parked. The storm, from a distance as I drove into it, was the most ominous-looking thing I'd ever seen. Sure wish I'd had my camera. And I've never in my life pulled off the road for a thunderstorm. Listening to the local radio, I find out I am about a mile from a tornado warning, and that I-80 is a total mess heading east out of DM, so I cut my losses and turned around (I was 160 miles into a 475 mile drive). I figured since it was all heading east, there wasn't much sense in me following the storm for another 300 miles. Heading back, there was a rollover accident where I turned around, places where water was crossing the hiway at least 6" deep, etc. I am bummed that I did not get to see everyone, and ride and race.

LOL AJ!!!! I got your text last night about Dorothy's cheese, and laughed my butt off!!

Actually... Dorothy made the right call, it started raining last night, and it was still raining when we left the park today at noon. Megacross rainout and FVOR was pretty soggy too... but yesterday was an awesome day of riding! Thursday night's rain made for great conditions at Fox Valley, and the new track changes were pretty sweet too. As always, nice seeing everyone!! AJ, thanks for letting me take a few laps and crash the JR while trying to dice with Red. Wardy, thanks for letting us come out again! Let's hope for some better weather for next year! Speaking of the weather... it was Dorothy who picked this weekend in the first place! issed:

Posted by: IndyMX

I vote next year to not have it the weekend before Redbud.

Posted by: biglou

I seem to have the touch for rainouts lately.

And I was gonna stop at the BP there in Ottawa and pick up some Kraft Singles to throw at you guys when I pulled in, too. That would have been hilarious. If you are a dork, that is. And most of us are!

Maybe try again later in the summer?

Posted by: motometal

great times! Great riding (about 4 gallons worth), great friends. We really got into the trail riding/hill climbing this year. No hills like that here, so somewhat of a novelty for us. Track was fun too, for some reason the most fun I had was on the little RM, and the test ride on the 500 (my "medium sized" 250 just seemed sort of boring to ride on the track).

Friday, the trails were pretty slippery, making the downhills pretty "hairy"...I was going down one of them, started to pick up too much speed with semi-locked brakes and was losing control, about that time I saw the slide marks in the mud and realized that is the hill I fell down on, the same way, earlier. Duh! Would have been easy to just wait for the dirt to dry out, but enjoyed the added challenge of the mud.

The campfire Friday night was fun, but I couldn't stay awake. Then, couldn't sleep when I went to bed. Go figure. Seemingly hours after I couldn't hear any voices, peeked out the tent door and saw Chopper Dave out hanging around the fire still...wish I could have stayed up with him. That was about the time it started raining, and didn't stop (may still be raining there for all I know). We loaded up in the rain.

Learned something new about tenting...I had always tried to find a flat spot to set up the tent...this time I ended up on a gentle hill. When it rained and the tent leaked a bit (as they always seem to), the leakage just ran down to the lower corner, not getting my stuff wet at all. Rain is not all bad, it cut the dust and it was fun to lay there in the tent and listen to it.

Lou, we were really bummed that you turned around, but it was probably for the best with all the rain and storms.

Thanks Wardy, and thanks to all the "spodes" for being so cool to hang around and ride with...the people make the event!

Posted by: SpDyKen

Dang it!

I knew it was going to be tough reading about how much fun was had. Especially when I'm going to be in the vicinity next weekend!

Glad you all, (except Lou, of course,) had a great time.

Then Lou, if you had just left a few hours earlier, and made that right hand turn ahead of the front, right?

The stars will line up correctly one day, I am certain!

Like they say, those struggles that don't kill us, make us stronger.

Posted by: wardy

sorry i couldn't hang out more, was on a tight schedule this week! LOU try to make another "thumper race" this year! of course leave that rain at home!!!. Glad to get to see everyone this year again, might be more changes for next season, have to see. at least one day turned out good for conditions, it can be pretty nasty with the amount of rain we got this weekend.

maybe next time I can ride some......LOL haven't rode there in like 4 years. HA!

Posted by: MXSparx

Wardy, thanks for everything
I left the key in the office on the table in front of the giant digital clock.

Posted by: Wolf

Thanks Wardy for letting us hang out at your place! Friday was awesome. I haven't crashed this much in my entire riding life...
AJ, thanks for letting me drop your 500 too...I knew I shouldn't have rode it...now I'm probably going to have to spend some money to get one. Never thought I'd like a 5 in the woods, man that thing ruled....and if I do get one, just wait until I get to hang it out on the ice!!
Mully = The SWAMP MONSTER....can't wait to see those pics.

Sorry megacross got rained out, Hunter was all jazzed to go race. We decided to not attend the trials event on Sunday either, I guess I just got tired of all the rain. Funny thing is...it never rained here in WI....not a drop.

Great seeing evryone, hope you all had a good trip back...Chopperless Dave, thanks for not burning down my awning

Cheers,

Wolf

Posted by: BUK0138

Good Times ..Good rides ...wish we could have pushed off the rain another day
Dave if I find anymore of your stuff that the Chocolate Terrorist took at the camp fire ... I will send it back Good to see you ....all .... cant wait till next year!

Posted by: Mully

A few thoughts..............................

Wardy, THANK YOU !!!!! Your place is a blast to ride.

Dave, great to have finally met you in person. I need to head your way for a ride sometime. I have a few other buds in the area that can show us some good trails.

Sparky, good to see you again.

Walt, thank you for the spoon. It would have been tough to eat my morning cereal with a fork.

Motometal, fun hill climbing with you. Or should I say Hill sliding.

zoomer, good to see you and the family. Hard to believe how much your kids have grown.

Wolfy, no one can do the log pile two step like you (and not just once). When can I expect to see "Gunther" in the results page of Cycle news for the world Trials Bike Series ??

Nikki and Red, good to see you two. Now that I have that Motor-cross bike thingy figured out I just may try a moto in the near future.

AJ, Thanks for the letting me try the x. Too much fun. Roselawn is August 12, hope you can make it.

And to all the puppies, woof woof grrrrrrrrr woof

Mully

PS:
How many dirt bikers does it take to get a bike un-stuck from a mud hole ??

Five.
Three to pull it out, and two to take pictures.

Posted by: Zoomer

Yea thanks again Wardy, super job on the watering once again, perfect wed/thur/friday. Oh well saturday turned out wet, but by then I was toast, and the kids,..never mind, they never run out of energy.

Mully, your in luck, can't seem to find the camera. seems Luke was in to much of a hurry to get back and get on AJs 150/250 that he forgot exactly where he put the camera still looking, ....any body see a little brown dog taking any pictures while having a cocktail and smoking a cigarette?
Thanks all, and nice seeing everybody again, and meeting the new ones.

Also left my white high quality plastic chair there. Hope someone was able to give it a good home.

Thanks for pulling me out Corey, so much for the chains.
Guess I'll have to follow Old Guys lead and invest in a 4x4 someday.

Thanks again Wardy for all your effort. Sorry to see you had to cancel sat night.

See you all later.

Look at all that CLEAN plastic! Mully, it looks like you just 'staged' those photos by pushing the bike backwards into the mud!

And to think on Thursday there was all that dust. You could have used some of it to dry up that quicksand hole!

You could stand one foot either side of my bike on solid ground, or at least solid enough not to sink up to your knees. I rode through earlier without a problem but as soon as I am done for the day and heading back to the truck look what happens...............

Huge thanks again to Wardy and fam for the great track/trails!

Mike, I left your high quality white plastic chair by a tree! Bet Corey gets good use out of it.

Note for next year; watch out for the chocolate clepto lab, and Wolf and the log pile!

Great to meet AJ and Greg and see their sick creations up-close! Jack and some other new faces showed up, very cool!!!

What a mud-hole! No wonder Wolf came back and got on the trials bike.

Campfire fun and frivolity! We'll just leave it at that!

Quote of the year for Wardy's 07:

"If you've seen one hairy nipple, you've seen 'em all!" (Mully)
