what should I torque the headnuts to?

I have them torqued to 20 pounds currently.

there are 6 headnuts on my engine, it's from a 1978 IT 175

You'll need to get a manual to find out unless someone here knows for sure. But you are right in the ballpark for most bikes I've worked on. I wouldn't go any tighter until you see a manual or get a better reply.

ok, yeah, I think unless it is leaking air out each stroke, through the headgasket or anything, it should be fine. since they're all torqued to same ammount, it should not warp the bore or anything.
