How about a test/review on chest-shoulder protectors. And include both moto. and hockey pads
go Owkie,go Owkie,go Owkie,go :silly:

how would you do the test?

We would find someone unsuspecting, then....

You can see where this is going :silly:

hehehe

We'll just tie the test subjects behind Wardy's AF and which ever one is alive after the first lap has the best protection.

Yeah... but i got first dibs on not having to be tied up. =)

There's no doubt that hockey pads provide better protection. That protection comes at a cost though. Heat, comfort and mobility are all negatives when it comes to hockey pads.

MX chest protectors do the job they were designed for. They protect the rider from roost. They do little for collar bone injuries. It takes very little pressure to break the collar bone. I feel that most CB breaks are from the helmet impacting the shoulder.

If you must try hockey shoulder pads the Douglas Defenders are the only way to go. That is if they make them any more. Back when I played they were the defenseman's dream pads. I suspect that Jofa is the way to go now though.

I recently took a nasty dive into a tree trunk and broke my clavicle in 2 places.
I realized then that the safety gear could use an up grade. I have an idea which involves foam rubber and springs.

I currently own the Alpinestars Bionic suit and recently had a nasty "dismount" if you will, and the bionic suit really didn't do much by way of my ribs and internal organs. Emergency Room said my spleen was bleeding and ribs were severely bruised, yadda, yadda yadda. Anyhow, I ordered the Itech Tech Lite 955 Pro Elite pads, so Ill repost once they come in and I involuntarily "test" them out. I researched for a few hours and it looks like these have the best rib cage, and back protection on the market.

I sure miss my Jofa under jersey chest and shoulder protector that I had in the late 70's. That thing worked great!

They look nice, I may follow suit. I'm 6"2" and 210 pounds. It's hard to find a set of shoulder and chest pads that fit. Most crap now days is for looks and small guys so I ride naked...

look into Dh mountain bike armor. I have a 661 pressure suit that is awesome.

I've taken a 4"x4" woodpost straight across my chest wide open in 4th and hit it hard enough that I moved its' angle about 30 degrees. I'm positive the only reason I didn't come out with broken ribs/sternum was because of my roost guard. I've broken both before, and I have to say that a broken sternum has to be the most painful break I've ever had. Not as bad initially as some of the larger bones but for the next 5 weeks every time you breath, cough, or sneeze (the absolute worse) you just quince in pain. Anyway, the roost guard might not help much with shots to the clavicle, but it saved me big time with this wreck.

have you ever worn hockey shoulder pads? they aren't solid at all, you can fold the part that covers your chest in half no problem. mx chest protectors have a hard shell, to spread out the pressure when you get hit by something.
