Mikuni Needle question

Rich, or anyone else...Can you explain to me the alpha/numeric sizing of Mikuni needles? For example, I have a flat slide TM and the stock needle on my bike is a 6DJ8-60. The bike is rich from just past closed to about ¼-3/8 throttle. The pilot is actually a little lean (35) as the bike is slow to come off idle. I tried a 6EJ33-61 in the top most clip and it really helped clean up the problem but not enough...I then tried a 6EJ33-62 (in the top clip) and it was exactly the same as the 61 ...My stock needle in the top clip position is too lean up to ¾ throttle. What part of the alpha/numeric code should I be looking at to lean out closed to about 3/8 throttle?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

don't forget that the needle jet is also important. Changing the needle jet will affect just above idle to 3/4 throttle...a wider range than what you will get by changing the clip. the clip doesn't come into play until the needle is lifted high enough for the taper to affect the flow of fuel.

Bob - Do yourself a HUGE favor and purchase the Sudco Mikuni tuning manual. It contains tables and charts for all the Mikuni needles, along with some excellent tuning info. Best $10 a Mikuni owner can spend. http://dirtrider.net/ubb2/smile.gif

You don't have to buy the Keihn info. You can just print it out from the Carb Parts Warehouse website. Here's an example:
