This factor here could be the fastest way for the government to shut down 50-60% of the riding/racing in this country.
We really need to watch our government, not to mention how important it is to voice your opinion in a intelligent matter when things like this come up.
Further more when this women goes for relection I would suggest that anyone that can get invovled do what ever is needed (legally of course) to make sure she does not retain office.

Isn’t that story related to the problems that KawiKX125 was having?

This “protect people from themselves” crap has gone far enough. http://dirtrider.net/ubb2/mad.gif

AAAAAUUUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

THAT'S RIDICULOUS!

What next? Are they going to outlaw bathrooms (the #1 most likely place for accidents, period)?!

So we want to take away another sport that youth can participate in thereby increasing the growing ranks of prebubescent fat (_|_)s!
<Sarcasm Mode>What a great idea!<Sarcasm Off>

In "Number of the Beast" Robert Heinlien wrote about a society that had a "day they killed the lawyers" at some point in the past and had learned to exsist w/o them. At some point one begins to believe that we may have to do something similar in this country. Kill all the lawyers and start over again from scratch. Busy bodies and people who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions are KILLING this country (and several others, e.g. most of Europe).

I do not know what to think, well this is suppose to be the land of the brave and the home of the free. Lets get going, can anyone get her email of phone number? Lets get these things then drowned them with calls! Closing land is one thing (and I don't like it) but using children is way too much!

Get the numbers, hers and the town council and local government maybe the Senators (they love to uncover underlings misdeeds). And TELL them that we will not stand for it! Then tell them why! I'm really not very militant but J#&*#@& C$%!@#$ what is next!

Sorry, but I love my kids and they need our support to keep them free to do a simple thing like ride a dirt bike!

This is insane! I'm really angry when people throw this crap out in public. At what point does govermental control over step it's boundries? The last time I checked, this was still the United States of America not China or Iraq!!! I wonder what is happening in this woman's district while she's spinning her wheels trying to make her world safe from Motocross!

i dare her to try to convict the first one... it'll hit the supreme court very shortly after and the whole case will be thrown out as blatant and outright abuse of power. with it the parents should sue HER(not the state) for damages and slander in a civil court... i think a few million will shut her up.

go ride.

Posted by: KWJams

That's the problem dual-sporter, someone would have to be willing to risk losing everything to take the time off work to go to court--spend the money--etc.
They know that not to many people can afford to fight this in court so everyone just complies and we all lose! http://dirtrider.net/ubb2/mad.gif

That is terrible wardy,ya know they say kids are already so overweight and unhealthy and the trend is getting worse,I know i have abro whos 20 who is a couch tata..These people just like to whine and B*TCh is all.Like what are they gonna do take all the sports away from kids that hurt them and turn them into overweight sissies.I know why dont we give them all donuts and all sorts of bad stuff.Pretty soon adults wont be able to ride either.this woman is an out of control freak and out of her league, who is she to tell me as an adult or parent what I can and cant do for my kid. There is alot of bad stuff going around like there is a Bill there trying to pass in Nj that if I get hurt doing something daring outside of work my insurance wont cover it.Does that go for the insurance brokers too that want this law passed when they go down the stairs on there kids skateboard or rollerskates and break every bone in there bodies?I am sick of having all these people save me from myself,This is not china people,I have so many people like this at my church, and the health freaks who believe in this herbal stuff too there just as bad,oh my god its so annoying to hear them go on and on. Get some nuts already.I just feel this has gone to far,If i wanted to be safe Id be a 200 pound overweight sponge cake to,but i dont,Lets just hope none of these groups decide to get together on none of this new Age BS.Last but not least I have nothing against large or overweight riders and people,Im stating the facts cause there is always some 1 who takes something to heart over nothing because I am a 6 ft 130 pound male sticker figure, that sometimes I think my bike holds me up .lol

If you think this can't happen, just remember what happened to the ATC's, (three wheelers). Kids were getting hurt on them and now they are no longer being made.

I personally feel that the three wheelers were dangerous, but I am getting very tired of people like this woman telling us what is best for us and our kids.

If anyone can get an address or e-mail address for this person, please post it. Maybe someone could also find an address to send some letters to the Milford local newspaper, letters to the editor.

This is why SC is trying to pass a limited liability law that actually puts in law that when you ride you ride at your own risk and cannot sue the land owner or manufacturer unless they were blatantly trying to hurt someone.

We have had it submitted in the Senate and the House of the SC legislature. We have put a lot of time and talking with law makers to get this in the works. I have a good feeling that it will pass. It took 3 years and a lot of hard work by people more passionate then me.

Like Wardy says... it has to come from the local level.

This is great. We dont need our kids hanging around in an adult controlled environment. I would much rather see a bunch of kids hanging around the streets, causing trouble, doing drugs, vandalism. All the things kids do when they have nothing else.
Child molestation, risk of injury, give me a F@#$in break. What about all the infants that fall out of windows. It seems that going to school is getting pretty darn risky with all the shootings, maybe we should ban them too. I think all cars with airbags are a risk to kids in the front seat.
What ever happen to private property. So much for a free country and rasing your family as you see fit.
Has anyone ever falled out of a tree. I think trees are pretty damn risky. They should be all cut down. Wouldn't that just piss them off!!!!

I sent off a letter to the State Attorney General, Richard Blumenthal. I hope he reads it and thinks about the type of people he has working for him.

Dear Sir,

I realize that I am not, nor have I ever been, a resident of the State of Connecticut, but I read something today that disturbs me a great deal and I would like you to shed some light on this subject if you would.

In the article that I read, a woman from your office by the name of Mary Galvin, has said that she intends to prosecute those who allow their children to ride off-road motorcycles under a law that was designed to protect children from child molesters and the like. If this is true, it is the most underhanded and Un-American act that I have ever had the misfortune of witnessing.

Here is a quote from the article:
Quote:
"On January 3, Mary Galvin, the state’s attorney covering the Milford area, sent a letter to the club saying that use of the track by minors would be considered a felony under a state law that was passed to punish those who engage in child molesting and the selling of children. She has decided that a part of that law prohibiting adults from putting minors at risk makes motocross a crime."

If this is an example of the sorts of people that are in power and running roughshod in the state of Connecticut, I, for one, will never visit there let alone move there. These types of tactics are what is destroying the fabric of America. As a veteran of the United States Air Force, it pains me to see the freedoms that I fought to protect, eroded by crooked politicians and corrupt lawyers. I hope that you do not subscribe to this domestic terrorism being wrought on the very people that you and your office are sworn to protect and to serve. If this article is telling the truth, then certain people in your office are attempting to take parenting out of the hands of the parents and give it to the aforementioned politicians and lawyers.

We might as well cut down every tree in the country for fear that a child might climb one and get hurt falling out of it. Children get hurt no matter what they do, whether it be sports or even walking down the street. It is a natural part of growing up. Heck, as a child, I used to always fall out of bed. Did this make my parents criminals? Children allowed to ride motorcycles in organized events are safer than they are in their own homes. The are made to wear the best protective gear that money can buy, and they are watched closely by their parents and other adults while they are riding. Where do we draw the line? As far as I am concerned, it is more a crime to allow kids to play in the park unsupervised by an adult. What if they were to fall down and break an arm? Would their parents be felons also? Under Ms. Galvin's definition they would be. Will it stop when all of the parents in the State of Connecticut are locked up for crimes against children?

I apologize for rambling, but I can not stand idly by and let people like Mary Galvin take away our rights as Americans in a STILL free America.

Sincerely,
Leiv T. Arnesen (a concerned, American parent)

Well, well. I'm not surprised. Next to
Vermont, California, and Northern California, I don't think you'd find a more liberal, we-government-beaurocrats-know-better-than-you-parents jurisdiction than most parts of Connecticut. I worked for the State's Attorney there in New Haven. Graduated from their fairly prestigious law school. Got to know many of their politicians, and political considerations.

What we have here is a rogue State's Attorney. She has no more authority, though, than to press charges. A jury would then have to convict (under a judge's oversight). And an appeals court affirm. Regrettably, there are many liberal judges in those parts, and on the Ct. Supreme Court, who may well go along with this absurd program.

I, for one, if I lived there, would NOT quit riding because of one ill-suited, overrated, probably undereducated, power went to her head, couldn't hold a job in the real world, brainless, has never had a real thought in her whole life, knee jerk, I know what's better for everybody, bureaucrat who threatened me with powers she does not enjoy.

PLUS -- I hereby volunteer to help in the defense of anybody who may find him or herself subject to this woman's whimsical tyrannical urges. I am not licensed in Ct., but I could assist someone who is, Pro Hac Vice, and I can certainly write/edit any appeals.

This is a gross distortion of our process, and our sport. Laws are written by the legislative branch, signed by the executive branch, and passed upon by the judicial branch. They are NOT created by finding something objectionable to one individual and then trying to shoehorn that into a statute clearly not designed to address your petty grievance.

I, for one, will assist anyone who wishes to stand up to this woman, whose transgression is objectionable on so many levels.

That is the place where I ride and am a member and the AMA magazine blew up the story and made it bigger than it really needs to be. This state attorney has it out for MX bikes do to the fact that there were some complaints from the milford police chief who is friends with her. She sent the letter basically to cover the states ass and make sure that if something happened, higher powers could not sue milford as a town for not doing anyhing about the situation. The only way a parent can be in trouble is if they let their son/daughter ride DANGEROUSLY there. You would have to get seriously hurt and not be wearing any gear to be in trouble. You cannot be banned, they govt would get very much overthrown by bikers if that happened. The club is also "ignoring" the letter in a way. They had new liability sheets that put responsibility on noone and they have proceeded to stop trying to fight this woman theirselves. They have lots of help as evidenced by the ama mag and there are many other WEALTHY track owners getting involved that can afford an attorney. Also, the governor, alot of cops/fireman, and alot of senators/reps ride and they are really angry about this. the club is going to tell the head states attorney that it is national, and hopefully, they will stop it. There is nothing to worry about. We here in the epicenter of the problem are very cool about it and are not to much at all(at least I am not, I went riding!). It is pretty much over, and if noone else gets seriously hurt, I will hopefully all be forgotten.
BTW, even if someone got seriously hurt, the parents would have to be found BLATENLY laible to prosecute them.
Sorry for rambling, but the issue has gone wayyyy overboard in my opinion and the AMA magazine kindof screwed up the story. They told the facts, but didn't go into the details. i guess they were using "journalistic liscense" to make the story seem way worse than it actually turned out to be.
On a diffrent note, I would like to commend the AMA for helping the club out even though the club has NO AFFIATION with the AMA whatsoever. They are truly nice people and if any AMA executives are reading this, thank you very much, the whole MRMC appreceats it.
Rmguy, this is the problem I am having obviously.
Here is the contents of the letter:
Dear mr. simpson,
This office has recieved several complaints about minors operating motorcycles and all terain vehicles at your facility. We are aware of five reported accidents since 1998 some involving minors injured while operating vehicles on your track. It is our understanding that children as young as four or five years of age operate vehicles on your track.

The milford police chief and fire chief have pointed out that some of these vehicles actually carry warnings that noone under the age of 16 should be an operator[only atv's which are BANNED from the track, and it is only a friendly recommendation]. As a result we will be reviewing with great care any future incedents involving operatin of vehicles by anyone under 16.

Enclosed is a copy. . . . [from there it just states that they will meet with the club's officers and so on and so forth]. . . The law states. . .The felony crime of risk of injury occurs if there is a wilful(she spelled it wrong, haha) creation of a situation that places minors in risk of physical injury. {end}

That is the just of the important parts of the letters, and if i get a chance, I will put the letter on photopoint for all to see.

Last, although I will be here daily to check out what you all have to see, is that if you write letters, you MUST BE NICE AND NONTHREATINING!!!!!! There are alot of you out there that are probably peeved, but nasty letters DO NOT HELP!!! Please, if you write a letter, make it simple and nonnasty. All the nasty letters that they get can screw it all up for the club and as I said before, this lady is way out of her league and really has no power to do what she did. There are many higher govt powers that are taking care of it and her position pronto.

Thanks for your time and sorry for the longest post I have EVER written, I even got really bad arm pump writing this. http://dirtrider.net/ubb2/biggrin.gif

Last, I just called the president of the club and he said that he will visit here and post some facts.

We should use her to negotiate w china then leave her there to rot.Sadly i see this stuff all the time they rather go after something innocent then go after the real problems.Yeah mean while lets watch the kids destroy themselves on drugs and shooting each other and abusing authority then let them have skateboards on main st and behave themselves. This country has lost the line where to draw its self, intelligence has been replaced w dumb wittism and lack of common sense.morality is gone and God is almost gone it looks pretty grim for the good people right now. These people have 2 things that keep them going POWER and MONEY and big mouths w fear tactics.Im going riding cause i dont know how longer this country is gonna be free for me to do so and riding is 1 of the few things i reallly get pleasure out of anymore.Sad to have to be so young and have to see and hear so much BS.I really respect people from my parents era, they had it tough but had it really the best http://dirtrider.net/ubb2/wink.gif

OffRoadWarrior, in response to your post way above; In Classical Greek days of the first true democracy in Athens, Cleisthenes instituted a system that allowed the people to ostracise a leader that the people felt was getting out of hand. Not only was this leader taken out of office, but banished from the country. This was used to keep overly ambitious politicians in check.

Perhaps we ought to give that old method some thought with lawyers!

Yeah! Like the one above who volunteered his time to help someone fight this land closure!

Laws keep governments from taking things from private citizens. When they're abused, and do the opposite, we should object, like we are. But remember that laws are all that stand between you and tyrany.

No one is saying that all lawyers are bad people, nor are all of them practicing unethically. However there ARE alot that do. And most politicians are lawyers. Some sort of check and balance system would be nice to have to keep the ambulance chasers and the like in check.

There is a check and balence system. That is the whole reason the pres, house, and senate all have to monitor each other. That is also the reason why the lady who started this has not much power. She will soon be overpowered by the higher powers(I hope)

------------------

The checks and balances are the good guy lawyers, http://dirtrider.net/ubb2/biggrin.gif, judges with spine, and, ultimately, voters. Voters directly choose some of the participants (like the state's attorney in this story), local judges, and, for federal judges and appellate judges, the politicians who appoint them. (Not to mention that they act as jurors, too).

This lady should simply be voted out of office.

Have you ever been inside a BLM or USFS office. I work with people in both everyday. They are packed with greenies. From top management down to the clerk stenographers they are all environmental nuts. They have developed a staff structure where all the people in control think public land should be fenced like a prison with guard towers every 100 yards. The deck is stacked against those of us who think public land is for the public and people and their activities as natural as fish swimming in a stream. I'm fed up with their control practices that reflect the ignorant values of the masses who reside in cities and have never seen any public land. If you agree with me I ask that you write your congressman.

i can tell you this much: we still have a constitution in this country that endows us with the rights to life, liberty , and the pursuit of hapiness. We have just as much right to ride our bikes on our own properties just as lawmakers can ride their lawn tractors on theirs. Education on safe riding and bringing more positive popularity to the sport needs to be considered by the lawmakers than shutting the sport down from one state to the next.

But it is only valid if people stand up for it.

"Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did, and it never will. very true. all motorcyclists in all categories need to be informed of all riding issues and get involved. The more strength in numbers we can acquire, the better.

i dont think ive ever seen anything more discraceful than this...child molesting considered to riding a dirt bike...im tired of a bunch of liberals in monkey suits trying to ruin a sport. more than twice the times of injuries occur in baseball than off road riding oh yah getting a hard ball thrown at your head 89 MPH isnt dangerous but riding a dirt bike is way worse...give me a freakin break.rember what this country was established on! the people run their goverment not the goverment shuts down a sport and ruins fun for millions of people...we need to band together and fight for our right to ride!!

Posted by: tn_tuxedo

So, does this pinko bimbo plan to charge school bus drivers in the People's Republic of Connecticut with "risk of injury" to a minor for taking kids to school? After all, our highways are statistically the most dangerous places in America. How about teachers? A child could fall off the monkey bars at recess and get hurt. (Maybe I should rephrase that last sentence. I wouldn't want anyone to think I was comparing children to monkeys. )

This is just a variation of an old gov't tactic. If they can't persuade one to change one's behavior, they'll try to tax that behavior out of existence. If they can make the cost of participation in a given activity prohibitively expensive sooner or later noone will. Although a bit dated, Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan's proposed 5000% tax on ammunition is an example.
Mary Galvin is trying to use Connecticut's law as a mechanism to inconvenience people into changing their behavior by making them defend themselves in court and, of course, paying the legal fees for such a defense. Let's not forget about lost income for every minute spent in court instead of at work. It's the same old circus, just with a different clown.

Can't your kids just curl up with a good book?

Thiat is complete nonsense. Kids on dirtbikes should be a great thing. It gives them something to do and they enjoy it. If more hobbies like this one is taken away then kids could become quite bored easily and resort to other things such as drugs. Its a proven fact that kids who are involved with hobbies/sports are less likley to do drugs than kids who are involved in nothing. Thats my 2 cents.

Posted by: fullmetalparka

I can tell you from experience that kids would LOVE to ride dirtbikes all day long (well, the normal ones at any rate), and they certainly don't need someone telling them that they can't, or making it harder for them to do it responsibly. This will only contribute to more accidents (kids love to do things that people tell them they can't do). A lot of kids I know are very responsible, and don't need an adult to fawn over them at all times. There must be something in the water here. I do realize that adults should be present when there are kids operating such potentially dangerous machines such as dirt bikes, but this is not the way to go about it.

Assuming that the original material was a proposal to restrict underage riding. Of course, I can't tell as the link is dead. If it was about something else, please move along...
