Knee brace and Boot Hints

I think I have solved a problem that occured with an CTI and Asterisk knee braces. Apparently I grip the tank with pretty hard with my knees and always tear a hole in the inside of riding pants, sometimes on the first ride in new pants. While looking at several pairs of perfectly good pants with holes in the inside of both knees, it occured to me that the ballistic material was on the wrong side of the pants. My wife found some heavy duty nylon material and we had it sewed on the inside of the pants covering the hole and a larged area around the hole. So far, the Asterisk braces have not chewed a hole through the material. I sent a set of Moose Sahara pant for the treatment before I wore them and so far no tear. I was unable to find Dupont Cordura ballistic fabric, but so far the other material has held up. Total cost is less than $10 per pair of pants.
Now for the boots: My size 12 boots take a beating in the toe area. I can destroy the protective metal plate quickly, sometimes on the first ride. As soon as the metal tip is lost the sole quickly splits, long before the upper leather portion of the boot is worn out. Before wearing a new pair of AlpineStars, I put a protective layer of 2-part epoxy over the metal to cover the staples and screws. This didn't last a single ride. I easly broke off the remainder of the epoxy. One of my riding buddies suggested JB Weld. Before the next ride I covered the plate, screws and staples with JB Weld and that stuff has survived several rides and still look good. There is funny looking gray goo on the tips of my boots, but if it stays on and keeps the metal plate in place, I am sure the soles will last longer.
My personal destructive tests continue. Now if I can just figure out why there is loose hair in my helmet at the end of every ride!
