Roost/Chest Protector?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm in the market for a new one, I've looked at the new Thor and the new Fox one too. First, any thoughts on either, good and bad, and second, the best place to buy one for a good price on the net. Thanks in advance,
Elk

Where to buy? Sheez man.
I like the Thor and the Fox. Take your pick, they are both good.

I've had my fox roost since last november w/no problems.. Fits good and nothing has torn unlike my fox boots..

I have the Fox chest protector and like it alot. Personally, I ( Okie) feel that it saved me from a much more severe injury to the ribs on two occasions. The only thing new I have seen though is the jersey/armor combo by EVS, though the armor looks a bit sparse. http://users.iafrica.com/l/li/lindud/chest.htm

Elk, I found a Roost 2 chest protector for 50 bucks at website where I buy all of my mountianbike suff. (Hardcore Downhillers wear motocross gear).

www.pricepoint.com

Thor Aftershock is cheap at www.rockymountainatv.com

I have also been happy with the MSR and O'Neal products. The O'Neal Matrix protector looks good, is reasonable priced, stong, comfortable, and about the same protection as the others. You can but it anywhere that sells riding gear. Check the magazine ads for sales.

Where do I find that price? I looked on there and it was 109.95

I wear a Thor Aftershock and I am happy with it. I don't use the arm gaurds and forget I am wearing it most of the time.

Posted by: dell30rb

really? Their catalog said 50..

I'll double check

I give another vote for the Thor Aftershock, it has saved me a time or two, like the time I flew backwards into the roots of a pushed over cedar tree. Didn't break the protector and know that I would have holes through to the other side of me if I had not been wearing it. Whatever you get just make sure that you wear it all the time. No one ever goes out planning to crash, except maybe Seth.

Yup... after taking it in the ribs a couple weeks ago and another one on the shoulder Wednesday, I'm convincing myself to wear it. Takes some getting used to.

I really like the Acerbis Zoom 2 protector. As to price, most places will match or beat prices. I paid right at $100 for mine. Webbed shoulders, good venting, and kidney protectors (many dont have these). They also make a plus version that is longer and wider for larger riders. Another reason I went with this protector is that it seemed to cover farther down (more stomach area) than many of the popular, MX protectors.

I've always worn one, except of course, the time I didn't and broke a rib! I make sure to wear it ALL the time now, it's good for the kid to see also. Thanks for the input, I'm torn between the Fox and Thor. At least I know they are both good.

Have you looked at HRP chest protectors. They make an excellent product. MX south carries them. I took a baseball sized rock from a CR500 square in the chest, stung a little, :scream: but thats it.

Elk, My vote is for the Thor. I had a nasty crash and ever since then I won't ride with out it. Out of a group of local riders, I would say at least 80 percent wear the Thor and swear by them. I have not been impressed lately with Fox's quality. From their boots constently ripping and their chest protectors cracking (yep I got bud's who have many cracks in them)
I have a few spills on mine, and I could still polish it up and sell it to you as new (just like that shiny brown moto 1   ) Just kiddin bud, just kiddin

Elk go with the Acerbis Zoom / Zoom 2 it offers great side protection as well and you can get it in extra Krispy Kream sizes as well.

check out ebay there is always thor protectors on there for descent prices http://search.ebay.com/search/searc...rt&BasicSearch=

Hey Elk-

I have both the Fox and the Thor Aftershock.

Fox - love it, good fit, good protection, and I like the webbed sholders. Just don't like the color (it's old, all white)

Thor - love it too, lightweight, great for strapping on the camelbak to the outside (less bulky on the back). My only problem with the Thor is I have put tape on my...uh....you know, umm, cause it rubs them raw! Must be because I have these huge pecs, NOT!

There are several almost like new Fox Airframes (betther than the Roost2) on Ebay for under 70.00. they sell new for 135.00

Do a search on both Fox airframe and Fox chest protectors

Hey elk, let me toss my money into the ring. I got the No Fear Stratos chest protector for christmas, and I couldn't be happier. It fits well, doesn't block ventilation, and looks good. Leave the shoulder straps on. I've gotten a few nasty scrapes from branches and such. And one last thing. Chest protectors don't help you mentally. I was racing at Budd's Creek, and I'd still get really really scared when a 426/450 passed me on the loose uphills

Here's a vote for the HRP. It's big enough and comfortable that you don't even know it's there

dell that protector is biofoam which i know isnt alowed at the park i go to.

I used a HRP for a few years and thought it was pretty good until I bought a Moose M1 (Acerbis), wow what a difference. When I'm riding I forget it's even on, excellent back protection and would definetely recomend the M1!
