Asterisk Braces

I just noticed the review of knee braces on one of the other pages on the site and would like to offer my opinion. I had a crash a couple of months ago that made me think that I ought to get a set of braces for peace of mind. I bought a pair of Asterisk braces, got them set up and started wearing them every time I rode. About two months later, I was headed out for a little training and clipped over a water bar on a fire road that had a medium depression on the uphill side. I wasn't going fast enough to get the front wheel up to absorb the impact with the rear suspension, but I was going fast enough to catch just a little air. When I landed, I pancaked the suspension and smacked down pretty hard on a rock right under the foot peg. My foot was ripped off the peg and OUCH!!! No mo' ACL. I wear the braces pretty tight and they still didn't fully protect my knee.
Don't think that I do not believe that braces help prevent injuries just because they did little for me. Understand that what we do is a sport, and is inherently dangerous in nature. Braces will help protect your knees, but there is no substitute for keeping yourself healthy and fit in the gym. Don't rely on a brace alone to protect you from injury

So what exactly is the flame? Not to be rude, I just don't understand what you are getting at. If you hadn't been wearing that brace you probably would have had to limp over to the side of the road and picked your knee up :scream:
Hope you heal up soon

what type of boot were you wearing?

Sorry to hear about your crash. I tore my MCL without wearing braces, and 6 weeks later tore my ACL while wearing a EVS RS-6. Braces can't protect you from every injury, or else they'd restrict movement so much it would be pointless to wear them. For braces you can buy off the shelf, I think the Asterisk are top of the line. Think how much worse it might have been without the brace; what if you tore the LCL, MCL, and all those other tendons/ligaments? A friend of mine did that and was on crutches for 3 months, while I only tore the ACL/MCL and was riding again at 3 months.
I'm glad you understand that the braces can only do so much and are not attacking a great product.

Like mentioned above, nothing will guarantee no injuries. People still die even though they wore seatbelts, others still die from head trama while wearing a helmet. The goal is to lessen the injury or chances of having the injury in the first place. I'm relatively sure most understand that. For those that don't... thanks for the post and heal quick.
Moved to the product forum... this isn't a flame.

Just a thought,....if you 'pancaked' your suspension with just a little air, perhaps the integrity of your suspension has a bit to be desired. (shrug)
Jaybirds first line of safety is machine integrity!
