Question about "safe" hydration systems

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I found out AFTER the fact that I had already purchased one... CamelBak supports the greenies. Had I known this prior I would have bought the Thor instead. My problem is I need a 100oz. system and so far the only companies I've found that make them that big are CamelBak and Platypus. Is Platypus a "safe" brand to purchase... meaning I'm not putting my money into the pockets of the greenies? I've done all of the digging online that my eyes could tolerate and have found nothing about a connection between the two. If anyone has any input that would be great.

Head over to Performance Cycle next to the Tacoma Costco. They have their house brand in the 100oz size. I`m not sure how greenie friendly they are though. It`s a bicycle shop so anything`s possible.

Diane,
Built by dirt bike folks and for sale to dirt bike folks.

I remember a post that testified that was a false accusation against Camelbak, but I don't remember where I say it.

JayBird beat me to the punch again! 'Course that would be the case on the track too!

I agree with KDX, there was some scuttlebut about Caelbak being all greenie, but I also remember a blurb about that being a biased acusation. I will see if I can find any information for you.

Here's some info 'bout CBak:

Well, that is some pretty damning evidence there, Kim. I did find this on their website. I'm confused now.

Thanks guys. I really like the CamelBak products, but I don't want my money helping those who want to kick us off the trails.

Are you guys going to ditch your Chevy's and Ford's as they have donated alot of money to the greenies also??? Ford and Chevy are big contributors to the Green Peace movement and I am still a proud owner of a 2002 F250 PSD Crewcab.

Diane,
The Greens are probably throwing fits now. LOL one of the biggest poluters of land around is now issueing them world wide. No matter how hard we tried those of us in the Army were spilling stuff all over the place. So to the Greens, stuff that in your CamelBak and suck it!

I'm not ditching my Chebby or my Camel. Nor am I saying I agree with CamelBak's agenda. I basically make my choices on performance/availability, etc.

I guess there's really no way around the greenies, is there? *sigh* I guess I'll just bite the bullet and deal with it. CamelBak it is then. Thanks.

So, you don't like Scott's hydration system???

Posted by: Rooster

Jay - never tried Scotts. I got started on CamelBak when I was in New Mexico doing a lot of hiking. I liked the set-up, it worked well, and I never even thought about whether or not they supported one side or the other. If I didn't already own a CB, I would certainly be up to trying a Scott's or Thor or Tusk. CB was simply what I needed, when I needed it.

Before I had the CB, I had taken the bracket for a water bottle off a MTB and riveted it to my CP and ran surgical hose up to my helmet. Talk about impractical and dangerous, imagine taking a rolling crash donw a hill with that on your back!
