Customized bike orders?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Do any of the manufacturers offer the option to custom order your bike? Things like tires, pipe/silencer, springs, bars, etc.. It sure would save time and money.

I am tired of buying a new bike and spending a boat load to customize it to my specs. I bought KTM (premium components) this time thinking that I wouldn't have to do much (wrong).

My next option is to either custom order or buy a year old bike and put 1,000 into it. I think I would get a better deal in the long run.

Any thoughts?

Service Honda does if you want a CR500AF. Carries a pretty hefty price tag, but looks well worth it.

They'll put anything on your bike you want

There are a couple of interesting companies here. But when will the standard companies offer the ability to order dirt bikes like a car. Currently we get a standard model - but then be able to choose:

* better bars for additonal fee - this means the standard bar price is removed for the overall cost of the new bars
* Pick your tires
* Pick your suspension or a least the right springs
* Maybe even the pipe and silencer
* Sprockets and chain

Think about it - you would save 1/2 the money to upgrade all the parts you normally do anyway and wouldn't waste all the stock parts.

Those aren't handle-bars that come with the bikes; they're just handles for moving the bike around at the dealership
As far as the springs go, can someone please tell Japan that the average guy riding their bikes on this side of the ocean is a little more than 135 lbs.

Does anyone know the status of Rev Motorcycles? I sent them an e-mail about 1 month ago, and never got a response. Based on the information I could find on the web, the company looked active about 1 year ago, but nothing new since.

Anyone know if they are still working on their line of dirtbikes?

Thanks...

Right now I say that would be your best option for customizing unless you have a whole lot of money.

You could always just order all the parts from the dealer and have them install it. I'm sure they would be happy to just add it to the total bill

Maybe with the right dealer you can do some customizing when you order.

I got my 01 300 from Mike Kruger at Cycle Zone.

He switched, at no cost to me,
1) the silver rear fender and side panels for orange - I wanted an all orange bike
2) the stock black and orange seat for an all black SDG seat - I wanted all black and wanted something softer

Of course, it would depend very much on the dealer, but I would think that a good dealer would be willing to swap out sellable parts (such as plastic and seat, perhaps bars, etc., pipe) for the customer's preference

Other things - triple clamps, footpegs and so on would not commonly be sellable and so I wouldn't blame a dealer for not want to swap.

Which of course is only partly what you want.

TM offers some choices on their models for 2003. It may or may not fit your bill, however.. You can get their 4-strokes, enduro or MX, with or without electric start. You have four different choices of front forks, and triple clamps. Different exhaust systems are available on the thumpers.. Arrow, Gianelli, MX, enduro, stainless or titanium. On the 250 2-strokes you can apparently order them with 3 different states of tune, similar to what Eric Gorr offers for his porting. Bottom-mid, Mid-top, or the best of both worlds.
Suspension valving and spring rates only come in one fashion, as far as I know.
There may be other options that I am not aware of, but those are the main ones. Being that they ard hand-built, they do not all have to be identical.
