I promised Tommy that he'd get to ride Sunday and Ivan promised to try the mud-bog left over from New Year's in his Ranger pickup...anybody else?

Sunny and 55 both days...should be great!

James (camera's working)?  Inbred?   A930Turbo?  Flyinbryan?  Bruce & Beast McScratchy?  Linus?  MikeT?  Dave?  Wraunch?  Lee?  _SOLO_?  Eric?  Slacker?

Posted by: James

I'll see what is going on. Maybe I can come down and work the camera.

Posted by: truespode

I'll probably be making it.

Ivan

Posted by: flynbryan

yea I think we might do it. I was thinking more of sat though. Theyre open both days right Gomer? I'll check w/Dave and Tang and see which day they'd rather go. Let you know either way.

Posted by: The Honda Pilot

Hmmmm suposed to race for the second weekend in a row at Sand Hills for the winter series on sunday...if I dont make it to Sand Hills I will come. I think Solo is going saturday with a buddy.

Posted by: truespode

I believe with the recent rain that Sunday the track will be in better shape.

Ivan

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

TNT will be open, but I've got too much to do to the bikes and RV to make it Saturday.

If you go to Sandhills, good luck! (They are having practice on Saturday, too, I hear)

Posted by: _SOLO_

Saturday isn't gonna work out for me either.

Posted by: kxbeastrider

Gomer,
Is anybody going to be doing work to the trails and TNT. Cause if there is you be sure to let me and dad know cause after new year that need alot of work!
-bryan

The g/f wants to go to uwharrie this weeknd so I guess thats where I'll be. Ya'll have a good time and maybe I'll c ya next weekend.

Posted by: efivecoat

I've got to work tomorrow, but check out my other post for a ride later this month.

Posted by: Bruce McCrary

Man, you can tell who rode and who didn't ride at the New Years Day thing...

Bryan has spent countless hours and untold amounts of fuel in the pressure washer trying to get to the point where we can even see the bikes. Now them puppies gotta be torn down and get more cleaning and maintainance. And we haven't even gotten to the toter-home yet.

Jeeze, now I remember why I hate mud so much.

Bruce

Posted by: _SOLO_

Two laps and a short jaunt through the woods got me this...

BTW Bruce, I didn't even know who you guys were until Gomer said cannondale's, I walked by you guys at least fifty times. Next time I will have to say hi.

Posted by: Bruce McCrary

Bryan and his bud and teammate Brent Painther must have rode 40 miles or so, I got in a little over 20. Our bikes just now are beginning to look as good as yours does!!!! *LOL*

Bryan said he felt his front brakes going away so today he pulled the front pads. They were fine, with lots of wear left in them when he checked them a couple of weeks ago, now they are worn past the material and actually into the backing plate itself!

Oh lordy... this could prove to be be one expencive ride...

Posted by: flynbryan

glad i didn't go Bruce....I like ya,but I dont want to single handedly put your son through college w/the parts I bought Hey have you heard of a place to ride off of ext.60 on int.85? dale ernhardt blvd.?

Posted by: Bruce McCrary

No, can't say as I have. Is it private property that someone has permission to ride on?

Posted by: flynbryan

I'm not sure actually. It's back behind a future development. They ride atv's, bikes, and horses back on the trails. Its about 20mi. of trails. Not really technical since they were made by four wheelers, but some spots are fairly tight. We went sat. and it was alot of fun. We saw some horse back riders while we were out and they didn't say anything to us about not being allowed to be there. I actually found out about it on one of the websites that tells places to ride in NC. Might go there next weekend or TNT which ever we feel like

I'll take that as an offer!  Barbara has lots of work planned for the trails, but it's tough to do without widening them, and that won't happen.

Well, it definately is one.

How about doing some re-route Gomer? I was thinking that a few spots of trail could stand to be fixed, routed around and left alone for a while.

Billy was talking about that. Also on the SCORE public list we have been talking about a potential workday there. If you are interested let us know.

It just takes someone to push it into fruition.

Ivan

Posted by: flynbryan

I'd be interested

Posted by: Bruce McCrary

Ivan,

We would definately be interested. We'd need some notice on a date, but I can forsee us going down on a Saturday morning and staying for a week-end.

Jeff McDonald told me that he was under the impression that the SWECO could be had, but it had to be transported from somewhere (Bill Blythe's maybe?) and a truck driver with a current CDL was needed to move it? I guess one of the guys at TNT is certified to operate it once it's there.

I'm all for blazing some new trail, and even though it goes against the grain
I could even cut it wide enough for ATV's. But considering the condition of the trails currently, the SWECO is a definate gotta have.

Should I also post this on the SCORE list?

Please.

Yes, we need someone with a CDL license (as well as the taxes paid on the truck but I think that may be in the works).

If anyone else wants to sign up to the SCORE e-mail list visit www.scohv.org and click on the join score link. On that page is a link to sign up to the e-mail list.

We appreciate all the help you can give.

I would call Barbara first and find out how she would like to proceed.

My understanding from talking to Barbara is that the tough part is going to be hauling in dirt to fill some of the low spots.

Posted by: Bruce McCrary

It's Barbara's land, so whatever she wants is what will be done, but...

I don't believe I'd go to the trouble and expence of hauling in fill dirt, or even hauling it very far on the property. The land has enough natural roll that with a little thought we should be able to utilize whats nearby.

Gomer, you talk to her more than most of us, why don't you give her a call and see exactly what she's got on her mind.

Something is going to have to be done or she stands to loose a lot of revenue from folks that aren't going to want to ride until something is done. But she has a better idea of those kind of issues than I.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Oh no, there's plenty of dirt there. What I was getting at was that a Sweco isn't the total answer because that was how it was done before and the low spots were made lower and will hold water.

I'll call her tonight and find out what we can do.

Posted by: truespode

The best option is going to be include some re-routing. I know once we get the sweco up there over half the work will be easily done. I see the biggest issue as being getting the sweco there.

Ivan

Posted by: The Honda Pilot

Whats a sweco?

Posted by: Bruce McCrary

Gomer,

Got your phone message. Bryan was on the line so it went to voice mail, sorry.

I understand her concern about drainage and all, but there is a lot of work to be done on the high ground too. Lots of things to do that wouldn't effect the lower spots at all. But as I said, it's her land so whatever she wants to do is fine. Just keep me posted on when this stuff is going to happen and I'll try my best to be there.

Ivan,

I'll go out on a limb here and guess that Jimmy was the only SCORE member with a CDL? If thats the case as bad as I hate to do it I'll look into getting one. I swore when they came out with those blasted things that I'd never have one, and quit driving commercially as a result. It's been so long now though that I may not grandfather in now. If thats the case it will be hard for me to justify doing it.

Send me an email on the particulars on what SCORE needs, and the type of equipment (trucks, trailers, ect) SCORE owns and I'll start looking into it.

BTW, I haven't forgotten about the fastway spacers. We have been shut down for inventory up until Monday, and I came down with strep throat and a sinus infection on Friday and have laid out of work since. The way I'm feeling right now I'm not betting on being there tomorrow either. I'll probably go back to the doctor and ask for more drugs...

Yuk.

Posted by: KTM-Lew

More drugs....thats the LAST thing you need...

Posted by: flynbryan

That strep throat couldnt have come from the maximum airflow to your throat sustained from high speed Cannondale hooky riding during a work week could it Bruce? Hope ya feel better.

Posted by: Bruce McCrary

Lew, Bryan,

Thanks guys, I appreciate the thoughts. I think that the strep is about in check, but I seemed to have developed a sinus infection along with it. Gawd, I hate being sick. The doc gave me some antibiotics that seem to be helping but I had hoped to be back at work by now. Maybe tomorrow.

For the record though, most of the time I ride with my mouth open, it facilitates the screaming more, less reaction time that way. That way the sound doesn't have to wait on my mouth to open. So it's doubtful that the mid-week ride had much to do with it. On the other hand, staying up until 2:30 am, standing by the campfire in the damp and rain probably wasn't the brightest thing I've ever done either.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

It also wasn't anywhere near the DUMBEST thing you've ever done, either!

Bruce, were you looking at coming this weekend? Flynbryan?

Jimmy Aycock now has a CDL, as do a couple of other riders I talked to last night.

Posted by: flynbryan

I was thinking about it Gomer, depends on if I can get anyone to play some tree ping pong I'm not too interested in riding the mx track.(Personal saftey reasons ) I'll have to hit up Dave and see what hes doing this weekend. Let me know what day(s) ya'll are planning on being there. If ya'll wanted to do some trail maintenance on Saturday I'd be willing to provide my services.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Cool! We're going to put in some drains this weekend for the bad spots in the trails. I'm planning on doing some trail work Saturday, mostly morning, then riding a little in the afternoon. maybe even staying the night and riding again Sunday morning.

Send me your phone number, Gomer@Dirtrider.net

Posted by: flynbryan

In your e-mail Gomer just drop me a line? Bruce are you gonna feel well enough to make the trip? Just let your son drive I'm sure he won't mind

Posted by: Bruce McCrary

No, don't think this week-end will be a go for us. We've still go trail maintaince to do on the bikes. We still have to remove some of the trails from them. I swear I've got enough dirt in the driveway from where Bryan washed them to do some fill in work. We'll just have to figure out how to get it back down there.

But if Gomer is getting into doing some trail maintaince, I'm sure there will be other week-ends coming up. I can't think of anything more fun than busting some trail with the High Lord hisself.

Heres a scary thought; Gomer on the SWECO.

Sorry man, we weren't ignoring you, I was hoping someone a little more knowledgeable would answer.

A SWECO machine is a small tracked dozer...and more. It was actually designed as a fire break building tool I think, but it works well as a trail builder and for maintaince. In the hands of a skilled operator they can do good things. I think there are some pictures of it on the SCORE site isn't there?

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

I had a tough time merely moving that thing across the parking lot...can't imagine doing real work between trees with it.

Posted by: flynbryan

Alright Gomer I talked Dave into coming down w/me this weekend. Are you gonna need any extra tools? Shovels, picks, and etc.? We probably will just stay for the day,but I really appreciate the generosity.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

I'm bringing a shovel and pick...I doubt we'll need more than that. We'll be using the tractor(s?), too.

You'll need to fill out the membership forms at the gate, but make sure you tel them who you are and that you're there to work on the trails so it won't cost anything.

I really appreciate y'all doing this! I'll even let you bounce me off a few trees in the afternoon.

Posted by: Bruce McCrary

Man, I really hate the idea of missing this...

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Then don't! :flame:

Yep, my one occasion of riding between trees per year and you're going to stay home. :whiner:

Posted by: flynbryan

No pressure Bruce........... come on out I finally got my Bark Busters on and I picked up Dave's jet today. Come on down I'd like to get to ride w/ ya'll. We'll be there if ya come, hope to see ya.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

We really shouldn't make him feel bad about not coming. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't like the "cough medicine" I was bringing for him, anyway.

And I know he will be glad the he won't have to ride my bike for a while...he hates those red things.

Posted by: flynbryan

True, get well soon Bruce. (He'll probably be doing laps around the yard this weekend now.....)

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Bryan, make sure you don'tmention to him that Barbara is going to fix us something special for lunch, either!

Posted by: flynbryan

sweet, no problem.........hee'll neever kknowww........

Posted by: flynbryan

Gomer we'll probably see ya around 11-11:30 tomarrow. And yea we'll sign the papers when we get there.

Posted by: flynbryan

Hey, Gomer I left my coat on the ATV when we were done working I don't suppose anyone got it for me?.........

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

I didn't notice it, but I'll call Barbara and ask if they did.
