need help with finding a math formula

I would like to get more wattage out of my stock lighting coil. I do have the mechanical space to make the coil approximately 50% bigger by "stacking the plates" but I have no clue on how the amount of coils ,length of wire in the magnetic field or wire size affects everything.

I am hoping someone could give me a link to a website or know of a book in a library that would have an excellent tutorial on how I can figure this out myself. Everything I have I found on my own was either too simplified with no detail or too specific for 3 phase motors with no tutorial for an average Joe.

If I can find a formula that tells me what is doing what where, I am thinking of taking this formula and running it backwards,ie knowing what I have now for stock output at a given rpm ,disassembling the coil ,counting the wraps and measuring the length and thickness of the wire ,I can figure out the "Henrys"< I believe that is the proper term for magnetic field measuring>.

I then hopefully take my figure of magnetic field measurement and run it thru the equation with a few different options of variables to try and get decent output. Once I understand the formulas would this be a proper plan of attack ?

thanks Lou didnt have too much time to track down all the links right now in the thread but it made for great reading. It definately helped clear up what I believed I knew , when I chase down the links I should be able to draw up some concrete ideas!!!!!!
