Tall SDG Complete SEAT

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I need some feedback from someone who owns the Tall version of the SDG complete seat. Is it softer than stock? I do woods riding and my stock seat on my '02 YZ250 is to hard.

Yeah... I too would like some imput on this topic, on the Tall complete seat

I can't comment on the tall verizon but the one my bud has on his '01 250F is softer than the one on my '02 YZ 125 was but its not way softer but it is alittle more comfortable though. I would say its definetly more tolerable than the stock setup.

i got the tall SDG on my 01YZ. cant remember if its softer than stock, but mine is showing signs of age. i am quite heavy on the front portion of the seat and the foam seems to be coming away from the base and moving around. i keep finding lots of small pieces of foam stuck in the airbox and stuck to the top of the airfilter.

i stand a lot and ride mostly MX, next bike i get will have the tallest stiffest, tallest foam and the gnarlyest gripper seat cover i can find!

Amen! :thumb:

Moose also offers a complete seat replacement w/tall foam. I've wondered how the two (SDG vs. Moose)compaired.

I have the Moose seat with the tall foam on my KX250. The seat has held up good so far. The foam density of the seat is just right, I don’t sink in as I did on the stock seat, and it is not rock hard like my friends KTM. I also believe that the Moose seat is manufactured by SDG.

moose is the same seat as SDG!

Moose is not the same seat as SDG, it may look the same but it is not made by SDG... I met the owner of SDG at the Vet Nationals, he is one of Billy's friends...

I put an SDG Tall seat on my CRF. Love it! The Foam is awesome, stiff and it fits perfect. The seat cover is a fantastic gripper cover too. All of SDG's seats arre made in house and they use a foam density testing machine to ensure seat foams are consistant. So far it has lasted too... even with the Asterisk braces.

so how come that my seat says Moose on the cover, but has SDG moulded into the plastic on the seat base? And how come when i called SDG for a mail order SDG seat when the Tall versions just came out they (SDG) told me that the Moose seats were indeed made by them (SDG) and i should just order one through my local shop?

maybe the owner is telling his staff different information to what he tells his friends?

I have a tall moose [sdg] seat on my cr,the foam and grip are perfect.Yes sdg makes moose and sdg seats, verified by sdg.

Just looked at the bottom of my Moose seat and it has SDG stamped on it also.

Well I was told otherwise but love to be wrong... I wonder if SDG makes the only bases for them or foam too.

David, i wasnt trying to be a smart arse

Moose seem to have a very broad range of bike parts, but from what i can see, i dont think they have a manufacturing base. To me, it appears they have the manf. put there badge on stuff. Their clutch plates look a lot like Barnets, and i would bet there other stuff like brakes etc. is a similar deal. (dont know this for fact, just seems that way). I woudl doubt these manuf. would use poorer materials on the Moose stuff since it will come back on them eventually.

As for my foam breaking down, it might be me being hard on the bike(not that i am fast, just heavy!)...ive already been through (cracked at the top seams) one tank from getting my weight forward in corners.

I am 6'6" and 250 lbs,the tall seat and jimmy button bend renthal bars with fastway lowboy pegs were a must, nothing broken yet!

i am running the enduro engineering tall/firm seat on a ktm with an '03 seat base. it too had an sdg sticker on the base. the quality is good--had a wrinkle or 2 in the cover but it is settling in. it has held up fine.

but it is like sitting on a rail, it is so hard--i like it that way, i don't like sinking into a seat, but it is AT LEAST as hard as stock ktm foam. if your stock seat feels too hard, you won't like this 1. get the soft.

I have the tall SDG seat on my '01 MXC 250. It is about 1/2 inch taller in the "dip" of the seat. (where you need the height) it is a little softer than stock KTM foam. I personally like the firmness of stock KTM foam, and wasnt disappointed with the feel of the SDG. The extra height was nice.

So, how tall are you guys that are running the tall seats? I am 6' and I'm not sure if in technical situations if the bike would be too tall?

35" inseam

Red's 6'4" and runs the Moose tall seat on his CRF450. He was gonna order a SDG, but Service Honda had a Moose in stock - so thats what he got. It is about an inch higher than the stocker at the lowest point. When he first got it, it was stiffer than the stock CR seat but still softer than my '03 YZ seat. His Moose has softened up a little and has held up great so far. He really thinks it makes a big difference over the stock seat as far as more butt-to-pegs clearance and ride position.

i'm 6'. the tall firm, since you don't settle into it, makes it pretty tall. it can be annoying if you need to get a foot down, but it makes it much easier to go from sitting to standing--less of an angle to the legs.
