Suthin SF - TNT

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: truespode

March 21, 22 and 23.

Please respond here if you plan on attending and whether you will camp or use a hotel.

I am going to try and get us a reserved location at TNT so we can all pit together and try to get some breaks on hotel costs (no promises).

Holeshot!
Lil96 & I will arrive Sat morning and hotel it Sat night.

Posted by: Lemming

I'll be arriving Friday evening and staying till Sunday. I might even be able to drag JP along (kicking and screaming of course).

Posted by: CR-For-Ever

Hey,

What's goin on 21, 22, and 23?

Maybe I can see if paps will drive me I doubt it but never know.

Later

Posted by: truespode

It's a group ride. Just a bunch of guys riding a few hours and spending the rest of the time lying about how fast they rode.

Ivan

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

I'm there and boy did I ride fast! (huh, I should wait to start the lying part? OK)

Actually, me, Danny, and Tommy for the duration with Lori and Ricky showing up when soccer permits.

Ike and Travis also said they plan on being there.

If enough people are interested, we could get Ike to teach a class.  I'll ask how much once I get a feel for if there are enough people interested.  For anyone considering it...it will increase your speed more than anything else you will do this year!

Posted by: JuliusPleaser

I'm there, dude. Any motels in the area? I made the sammiches the last two years - can somebody else handle that this year? I prefer tuna on wheat with the crusts cut off, and NO ONIONS!

Gomer, I could use a little class. Count me among the interested.

Posted by: SpokerAce

JP, we all know you could use a little class, but he's talking about MX

I'm there Saturday morning and camping out that night.

Oh yeah, I'd be interested in the class too if it happens.

Since you put it that way...I'm in!

Prolly be a few of us.......yea that's a warning.

Gomer.....need meat?

Posted by: truespode

I'm interested in the class.

I'm trying to find info on the hotels but living 2 hours away isn't helping I will find something out I promise.

BTW, I got Gomer's meat covered

Ivan

Posted by: _SOLO_

I will be there all three days, and will be camping. Maybe a hotel one night. I would definitly like to do the class.

Posted by: flynbryan

I'm gonna try to get the tree ping pong group together. Myself, Dave, my fiance, Ocechap, Madmark. I'll check w/ the boss(my fiance') and see if we have any plans that weekend. Hotel is probably out o the ? unless ya'll get some good rates. We'll just camp. Bscottr get ready for some rough riding on the trails. Its getting difficult out there. Are you going to be accompanied by stumpy, Mack, and the gang? I'd like to get another large group of trail riders together again. Weather permitting I'd say we'll be there

We've been wanting to get back up there for a few weeks, but the rain is keeping those trails so wet and I'm sure they are getting hammered by the ATVs. Hopefully we'll get some drying out over the next few weeks.

I hope so. :thumb: I know Stump and Mark have a race on Sunday, but maybe they'll come out Sat.. I need to see if Mack and the rest of the gang can make it.

Ivan.....

Posted by: flynbryan

Yea its getting bad from those four wheeled thingers........:silly: Ask Gomer how wet I was after I decided to stop in one of the straight aways there last weekend I've never been so SOAKED in my life.

Posted by: CR-For-Ever

For the first time I think I may be able to make it to TNT and see how good it is, my friend might drive up with me.

He's got a big raptor that likes to make ruts. *sigh* I tried to convince him to get a 250F but he wanted a...4 wheeler ugh.

Posted by: SpokerAce

I believe this is where a bunch of us stayed last year.

The EconoLodge in Richburg. Exit 65 off of I-77

803.789.3000

The rates aren't bad. Last time I think we told them we were riding at TNT and got a discount. I got the discount through AAA when I stayed there (the rates about the same).

It's only about a 10-15 minute drive to TNT from the hotel.

HLG: Ugh, I've maintained my status of being my own worst enemy and a wimp to boot.

I have a truck load of excuses I could use but not one of them stops the fact that it's me that's keeping me from quitting.

I will attempt yet again shortly. Being unemployed with loads of time on your hands is not a good thing. I find out today if I'm eligible for free training. If so I'll end up in school fulltime and believe that will be the time.

My biggest issue has always been boredom (combined with a brain that goes a mile a minute from topic to topic and you've got a wonderful mix).

Let the barbs fly!

Anyways, enough excuses and back on topic.

Is it March 22nd yet?

Pretty sure I'm out, lol as usual.

My friend has to go out of town that weekend...

Have fun guys :D

Posted by: Lemming

Well I'm still in and lordy lordy am I fast on my new 450. It's starting to look like I will be lapping Gomer in a one-lap race I also now know why Gomer was able to beat me off the line in OK, it had nothing to due with him, and everything to do with that engine. Remember the day that my little 200 was smoking you off the starting line at Bremen? Well I'm back

Posted by: flynbryan

Gomer....................?:Loud announcer voice: "Let the bench racing begin!!!!!"

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Julius...you need to go check on Arctic Rodent. He must have hit his head pretty hard when we weren't looking.

Lemming...we're going to put that little device on your keyboard that you have to blow into before you can post from now on.

We are having a group ride March 21, 22 and 23 at TNT. You can show up in the afternoon Friday the 21st and camp or stay in a hotel. If you are going to camp Friday night, please contact TNT ahead of time and work out the details (803) 482-4759.

I'm pretty confident we can get a designated location for the SF where we can all pit together. I'll work that out with TNT before the Fest.

Below are the rates that I was able to find out from each hotel. I called each of them on 2-26-03 and these are the rates they gave. I cannot vouch for the quality of either hotel but I can say the Executive Inn was the most eager to have people from TNT there. The lady proudly exclaimed "I LOOOOVE TNT!" Kinda funny.

I'm feeling a little funny in here...........maybe I need some holly water or something........ ..........AAAAAHHHHH........

Posted by: linusb

I think I can make it.

Posted by: James

If Linus is gonna be there, then I'll be there too!

Posted by: linusb

I do hope to make it. Truth be known, my bike is for sale in the local classified paper. If it sells between now and then, I'll haul my smoker up and do you guys some ribs, real southern BBQ style.

So, what are you replacing it with?

Even if you are without a bike for awhile come on and ride with us. I'll bring the DRZ250 for some trail rides if you want and you can swap off with me and whoever on my CR450.

Ivan

Posted by: linusb

It remains to be seen if I'm going to be replacing it or not...at least in the near term. I'm facing a pretty busy summer and I'm still spooked from that last issue. I've been wishy washy about my decision and ultimately think I'll get another dirt bike at some point.

Posted by: flynbryan

Well good luck to ya Linus. Never like to hear of a fellow dirtbiker getting out. :whiner: Like Ivan said.......even w/out the bike come on down and have a good time w/us

Posted by: linusb

I will for a fact!

Thanks for the offers to ride your bikes Ivan! I'm a bit intimidated by that big 4 stroke but the little thumper sounds like fun. Hopefully, my bike will not sell by then anyway. :thumb: If I do get another, I'll probably be in the market for a 250F.

Posted by: flynbryan

O don't leet er skeer ya Linus...............Just remeber it only goes as fast as you turn the throttle. :thumb:

Posted by: truespode

I'll bring the DRZ either way. I'm trying to sell it ($2000) but even if I don't find a buyer that is ok. It makes one heck of a fun bike on the trail. I have even jumped it a few times at TNT and although I wouldn't recommend it it is a lot of fun

Posted by: flynbryan

alright guys we're definately in. My fiance has a bunch of her friends/cousins that are coming. We're probably gonna do the camping thing. Looks like there'll be maybe eight of us total, only down side is myself and Dave will be the only ones on 2 wheels. Tang and all her friends will be on ATVs........O well they will definately add to the evening activities fun. They're a riot to hang out w/. See you guys there.

Posted by: lightning21

Where is TNT located? Thunder and I would love to go, have to see what happens, Took and new job and lots and lots of school not sure if I can get off or not. But they do owe me 4 days so who knows.

Posted by: ocechap

Hey Lightning, I went to the boat drags two summers ago in Palatka. Nice place! Lots of country around there. Good riding?

Jim

Posted by: lightning21

yeah it is actually a great place to ride. We have 10,000 acres adjacent to our pasture we ride in. They are having the !st rouund of the GNCC here this year. Plan on being there all day tuesday. Let me know if anyone plans on attending.

Posted by: SpokerAce

Hey Lightning21. Hope you and the wife can make it this year.

TNT is some good riding although from what I hear the trails aren't in as nice a condition as usual. Still better then what we rode at Monster Mountain though.

Posted by: flynbryan

yea trails aren't unridable by any means.......just a little more difficult from the four wheeler ruts.

Posted by: wrench

OH NO!!! Thunder & Lightning .... Hide your pillows!!

I hope that you can make it up to TNT.

wrench

Posted by: flynbryan

are you joining us wrench?

Posted by: lightning21

Hey what is the web site for TNT? Trying to find out where it is located? Any campers???

Posted by: truespode

Ivan

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

We'll be spendingthe night. You have to bring your own camper, though.

How about the crazy group from Lexington I rode with this past weekend at Manchester? You guys are coming, right?

Posted by: Motogrl307

What's the track been like with all the rain you been getting down there? We are thinking of coming down this weekend but don't want to drive down to lots of mud. Tired of all this snow up here.

Posted by: flynbryan

Motogrl it'll be better than snow thats for sure As for mud you'll have to ask Gomer. I know its raining here in NC right now(not bad) and last I checked it was gonna rain tomarrow. I hear the Big MX track drains well though. Will we be seeing ya'll for the Suthin ride?

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

The track has been tamed down some since you were last there. As far as the weather this weekend, they're calling for rain Thursday then clear through Sunday. If they work the track after the rain, it will be perfect. if they don't get a chance to work the track after the rain, it will likely still be muddy.

Posted by: Motogrl307

Tamed down? I liked it the way it was. Well I hope to make it down this weeknd. It has warmed up here and I can ride in the mud here now, but was hoping to get some good riding in before qualifiers in a couple of weeks.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

It is disappointing at first for the riders who jump everything (or most everything), but it is appropriate for the majority of riders.

It also makes for more fun passing people. Before, it all came down to whether or not you did the jumps. Now, since almost everyone can do most of the jumnps, it makes passing people a little more interesting.

Posted by: whyzee

So how many are camping? And what's the BS factor going to be around the campfire? I want to get down Sat morning with lil Z as soon as possible. BTW, what time does Barbara open the gates? James, PS2 looks like this:
 1. Socom & headset
 2. MX rider
 3. ATV offroad fury
 4. gt3
 5. gta3
 6. nba shootout 03
 7. mlb slugfest 03
 8. (and others)

Ivan, do we have a head count yet?

Posted by: truespode

Nothing specific. I'm guessing 20 or so people.

Ivan

Posted by: James

I have MX Rider, The Carmichaels, and GT A spec, and some PS1 MX & misc PS2 games. So we'll probably be able to stay entertained without you bringing a whole bunch of stuff. I hear you and lil Z play a mean MX Rider and I'd be open to getting schooled at the ATV.

Gates open at 10:00 I believe.

Posted by: o'neal

Gomer..Just the two 50 riders are coming from Lexington which day would be best?

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

BOTH!! We're going to be there Saturday, then Saturday night we'll have a night-time poker run. Of course you guys have to run the pro class in that event due to your extensive experience in that area!

Then the Sunday morning ride with one eye open until the Advil kicks in session. Followed by hanging _SOLO_ from a tree because he roosted all of us that were a little under the weather.

What about "Smiley" on the DR? (See how good I am with names?) I think he was even smiling when he got his second flat of the day!

Posted by: flynbryan

Night poker run.................. time to break out the duct tape and flash lights!!! This is getting better and better!

Posted by: o'neal

Smiles because two flats riding is still better than building tires at work!

Posted by: flynbryan

Gomer what will the night time poker run consist of ? Never done any kinda poker run......let alone at night?

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

It is somewhat dependent on the trails being cleaned up some. Don't want people riding at night if there are still big ruts.

Anyway, we'd do a short loop through the woods and at the end of each lap, a rider gets to draw a card. Best hand wins, but I have to warn you, Ivan claims to alsready have 7 aces.

GOOD NEWS!! I talked to Barbara and they have made some more changes to the track! Added some berms and more turns down in the bottom section as well as another rythm section.

Posted by: flynbryan

Gomer could we possibly pick and choose the good sections of the track to run on? If it works out sounds like it could be fun. Hey, if Dave comes w/us you'll have to rag him pretty hard about his last accident Oh and the changes sound great.......only problem is I :Sooper Secret Mode ON: Definately DON'T ride MX anymore...especially since my future wife will be there that weekend.....:Sooper Secret Mode OFF: So I'll have to pass.

Posted by: o'neal

Gomer Can i get wild cards for laps done on my XR50?

Posted by: tireman

Hey Gomer if I ride Saturday how many tubes would you suggest I bring? But if you enjoyed changing them for me I'll leave my tire irons home. Ha Ha.
Thanks for all the help in Sumter, I really appreciate it.

Tireman / Smiley...are you coming?

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

GOOD NEWS! Barbara has a special surprise for all Spodefest attendees!

If you're coming, make sure your name is on this list, as only those people will receive the "surprise". I'll post details after I make a definitive list.

Posted by: truespode

Oooohhhhh!! Can my name be on the list? Please, pretty please... I'll be good... I promise I won't steal your clothes and throw them in the creak like last time... and I won't eat your sandwiches (just the bread)

Ivan

Posted by: James

I am coming, but I don't know how I feel about being listed :scream:  :thumb:

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Better than being "de-listed"! :scream:

I'll update Ivan's post at the beginning of this thread with a list. ANybody correct me if wrong / missing.

O'neal...I need the other guy's name.

Posted by: mliebal

Hi guys,
Intermediate level lurker here. I am planning on attending.
I have met a few of the guys over the past few years.

Don't let James fool anyone in thinking he is a slow trail rider, ha!
I would not want to miss Linus's cookout, that is still on isn't it Linus?

This sounds like a blast!
I'll be there Fri-mid day Sun (probably about the time the Advil kicks in).

Count me in as a camper!
Sleep, who needs any sleep?
Now to contact MXTUNER to find out how to get a bike started that has been sitting for 3 months, ugh.
Old -n- slow
Mike Liebal

Posted by: flynbryan

Names are as follows for the rest of my companions Gomer:
Another Mark(not to be confused w/mad mark, this ones just accident prone)
Andrew
Tangela(my soon to be wife )
and possibly a fourth yet to be announced person(possible uncle or Mark's g/f)
We're there and looking forward to it even though the weather leading up to the weekend doesn't look to great.......We're hard core!!

Posted by: linusb

Mike - Hey man...you should post more often. (Like I'm one to talk)

The bike hasn't sold yet so that is good for my riding situation. I will try to haul both the 'big butt smoker' and the bike up on Saturday. I don't envision camping, but who knows.

My smoker will barely hold 2 full racks of spare ribs and it takes 5 or 6 hours to slow cook em. I reckon with Gomer's appetite for meat ( ) we may have to hold him back. It'll be first come first serve....just as long as someone saves me one or two. The good news is that I can barbecue ribs lots better than I can ride a dirt bike!

Regarding the weather...is there a rain contingency? This has got the be the rainiest year I can remember.

Posted by: bscottr

Quote:

lmao.......

Posted by: mliebal

Linus- Good to hear you still have a ride!
As far as posting, it takes me too long to type.

I can smell them ribs now! I guess you need a lock on the smoker!

Bring a sleeping bag, I got an extra bed in the pop-up if you want to camp. Just remember to lock the door to keep the wild animals out. Not sure who you can trust.

Rain contingency: good grief I think loss of sanity is my contingency if I don't get to ride.

Mike

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Ooohhh, someone's gonna pay!!

In the event of too much rain, the plan is to head down to Manchester SF. There you can ride during the pouring rain and not find a puddle.

Everyone that will be coming as part of the SF needs to make sure their name is on the list by Monday. At that point we will unveil the surprise that Barbara has planned.

Posted by: whyzee

Gomer, is the idea to "cook out" after the ride and before those whom are not camping head out? And if so what are we looking at, fire pit, grill, convection oven, fully catered service??? Just curious, so I can figure out what to bring. James, what do you like? Me, not wanting to show up short or empty handed.

Posted by: linusb

I'll be planning on getting there around 11:00 and having the ribs cooking all day and finished around 6:00 or 6:30...

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Dave, yep. We can probably talk Barbara into letting us use the gas grill she uses. There is also 110 power there if we *need* it for something, but not generally available to the public.

Linus, you need to come over Friday night to the "pre-staging" party.

Posted by: James

Dave, if you are talking about games, empty handed is fine. If the party is as good as it sounds like it might be, we won't need to worry too much about Playstation.

If you are asking about something else, then you might have to clarify as I am a bit slow today.

Posted by: andym

You might as well add me to the list of attendees. I'll be there unless I do something stupid in London this weekend or the weather looks like hell.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

You're already on the list, Mister! (tm)

BTW, can you give us rough odds on you doing something stupid in London?

Is that the London where they talk funny? (Oops, I guess that doesn't really narrow it down much, does it?)

Posted by: whyzee

I'll type slow, .... FOOD, amigo, I figer'ed if we gets to stay at Casa el' Poole, least I can do is bring some decent grub fer the festivities at TNT night!

Posted by: James

That's fine if ya like. El Senior Poole desires nothing in return and was not concerned about whether you came "empty handed" (just try to bring your own riding pants).....but I will come later for your first born.

Gomer, are you bringing your clothing this time?? I can pack some extra gear if you promise not to bust the seams.

Posted by: bscottr

Gomer,
It's looking better, but won't know for sure until mid week. Hoping. :thumb:

Posted by: andym

Usually I do a good job at bot doing anything too stupid. In the last 2 years I've only missed one weekend due to injury and I really could have ridden then.

Its London, KY so no its not the London that they talk funny.

Posted by: truespode

There is a Paris, KY too and a Gomer, OH. I know... why would you name a town Gomer?

Ivan

Posted by: bscottr

Thanks Dave! I'm trying get the stars to align so I can make it. Dang work.
Sounds like it's gonna be a good one.

Meat processing plant in town?

Hell....why would you name ANYTHING Gomer?

I've GOT to make this ride to get some more of this!

Posted by: HoleshotHank

Hey Guys, This weekend ridefest under the stars thing sounds pretty cool. Got room for two more -- Hank and FlyinBryan2. Will show up sometime on Saturday and do the camping adventure. Hope we beat the deadline -- love surprises.

Have ridden many poker runs in the past but never a night one. Hey Gomer, I know lights are recommended but are turn signals required???

Pray for the drought to return.......I'm sick of rain!!!

Happy St Patrick's Day to All -- can we bring some green beer, if there's any left????

Posted by: flynbryan

OOOoo another flynbryan....I'll have to meet this person. And guys what is determining the final destination of the ride? Rain(excessive) leading up to the weekend or just a forecast of rain for that weekend? Need to know for the fiance....shes not a big fan of Manchester(not exactly fourwheeler friendly.

Posted by: andym

OK, so I survived London. It looks like things are on for TNT Saturday. This big surprise is worrying me since Gomer is somehow involved.

Posted by: linusb

Man, this weather is too much. Rain, Rain Go Away!!!

Posted by: andym

Eat wur purdy en Keentukee

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Good news and bad news...

The surprise: Barbara has said that the DRN and GOR attendees will ride for free. Everyone will still need a membership, so if you haven't been there in the last year, you'll need to fill out the paperwork and it will be $10 for the membership for the next year. To show our appreciation, I'm suggesting that we all bring a shovel and try to do a little work on the trails Sunday morning. Not long, but 50 people working for an hour will make a huge difference.

The bad news: I just checked intellicast and they are predicting rain for Chester every day (except Saturday) from now through Sunday. If that holds true, we won't be able to ride at TNT at all. If we have a fairly dry week, the trails will likely still be unridable after this weekend's rain. The tracks would be good, but probably not the trails.

The alternative: If we do get the rain predicted, the only place in the state that will be fit for riding is Machester State Forest southwest of Sumter. It is about an hour east/southeast from Columbia. It is basically nothing but sand there and you can ride there even if it is pouring rain. It has an MX track that is 3/4 of a mile long with jumps that have worn way down and whoops EVERYWHERE! It is tough to ride, but the trails are the real attraction. There are 3 loops in the woods, 2 miles, 8 miles, and 9 miles. I rode there 2 weeks ago and the trails were still in pretty good shape after the work they did in preparation for the enduro. Some whoops in the woods, but not too many. I'm not big on riding near trees, but I really had a good time there. It costs $5 per person per day to ride there. The only problem is that you can't camp there, so we'll need to find someplace close (like BScottR's back yard).

We're also open to other suggestions if anyone has them. I figure that we should be able to make a definite decision on the weekend's festivities Thursday morning.

Posted by: flynbryan

:thumb: Keep us in the know Gomer. Let me know and I'm there.

Posted by: truespode

One thing to keep in mind is if we do go to Manchester we will need to get permits. They are $5 a day. Also, there is no camping on-site at Manchester. We can camp down the road but we'd still have to load and go.

I would suggest that as long as the weather is ok for Saturday that we set up there as the base camp.

My boys and I are ready. Just name the place. Looking for somewhere outside of georgia that we have never rode. Rain Rain go away.

Posted by: ocechap

I know a drought is worse but man this rain is getting old, old, old. I shoulda kept my boat for the back yard. I cleaned my bike up to sell and there is no way I'm gonna ride with you guys this weekend. Don't even try it. Can't twist my arm. No really try! I think I just got out of my commitment this weekend but that doesn't mean I'm gonna ride my clean almost new bike and have to spend 3hrs cleaning it again. Of Course, Manchester won't be so bad. NO,NO, NO, I'm not riding. FlynBryan, Gomer don't try to talk me into it!!!

Jim

Posted by: _SOLO_

I am up for whatever is decided.

Posted by: truespode

The track won't be too bad and Gomer has a pressure washer and we are there for the campfire songs that MX Tuner will sing (nobody tell him I said that ok? ).

Bring the bike and we'll tell all the locals that are out on the track...

"Yeah, we were out there earlier but it was too dry for us. You see, when your this fast you can ride on top of the mud and keep the bike really clean. See, mine looks just like new!"

Ivan

Posted by: flynbryan

~insert twisted arm here~ Jim ya definately have to head out w/us this weekend. I don't know if I'm to interested in heading out to TNT if its gonna DUMP rain, but if we get lucky I'm game. I'm definately much more interested in Manchester, just because I'm not gonna be hitting any motocross tracks.....I know I'm a tree spode Jim I'll drop you a line this week and further your guilt

True Ivan. Alright guys I'm being a wuss. My g/f talked me into it, as long as ya'll are there we'll be there. :thumb: Who's up for some mud surfing inbetween the trees w/me?

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Jim, you have to come, even if it is just to ride Ivan's bike! (Ok, you can ride mine, too). MXTooner will be there with a flywheel weight on his CRF so we can answer that question you had, too.

Every time I pull up the forecast it is different, so I'm not going to look at it again until Thursday.

Posted by: flynbryan

flywheel weight......... I've really been wanting to know how much of a diff. it mad on the CRF before I shell out the dough.

Posted by: andym

Has this officially moved to Manchester now? If it has I'm out. If TNT is still the plan I'll decide something Thursday depending on the weather.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Nothing definite, yet. The plan is still on for TNT, I just mentioned Manchester as an alternate in the event that TNT isn't open due to rain. We'll figure something definite out Thursday.

Posted by: ocechap

Confusion, confusion. What to do what to do. Bryan, call me later, did you get your stuff together yet?

Jim

Posted by: flynbryan

call ya this evening Jim:thumb:

The latest "forecast" from the Random Weather Generator shows scattered storms Friday, clear Saturday, and some showers moving in Sunday.

ANYWAY...if the weather cooperates and we can ride TNT, Ike De Jager will hold a class Sunday morning for those interested. Ike is a certified instructor with the Gary Semics' MX School, a +50 National Champion, and a nice guy, too. If enough people are interested (need a minimum of 6), the class will be $75 each for a 4 hour class.

Bring tools needed to adjust your:One of the first things he does is make sure that your controls are in the proper position. You can't be if they're not.

Make sure you show up with a bike stand capable of supporting you and the bike...he goes over body positioning with you on the bike on the stand.

Also, bring a notepad to take notes.

Please respond if you want to take the class. I imagine he will limit it to 15, maybe 20 people so make sure you let me know ASAP.

Posted by: flynbryan

Mike we're gonna be hitting the trails where ever we end up this weekend be it TNT or Manchester. So my question is ya'll aren't gonna be shutting down the trails if its all sloppy?

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Bryan, please tell me Dave was kidding about the k w a d?!?

Posted by: flynbryan

............ :whiner: .........no I'm afraid not!

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

I'l have to check with Barbara about that.

Posted by: flynbryan

uh oh.........

Posted by: andym

If weather cooperates for TNT I would actually be interested in the class. I was already considering coming down for it sometime anyway.

The last weather reports says rain up to Friday, then sunny Saturday and Sunday. Will the track dry up and be rideable? I really don't want to drive down there then everybody bail out to Manchester.

Posted by: truespode

The track will be muddy in the morning unless they have a decent turnout on Friday. However, from the last few times were were there after bad rains the track seems to dry up well when the bikes get on it.

Ivan

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

If it stops raining, we will MAKE the track ridable! If it stops Friday, we'll have it in shape Saturday afternoon and by Sunday it wil be great.

Andy, if we do have to head to Manchester, you can ride with me.

Posted by: truespode

Ok, for those that are scared of the mud take a look here...

http://www.tssgraphics.com/motox/spodef/rmdsf.htm

And don't forget to take a look at Gomer's bike...

http://www.tssgraphics.com/motox/sp...ges/spode18.jpg

The year was 1997 and the place was Atlanta... it was muddy and the stories on the net were about a Spodefest. I didn't have a bike but I read about these yahoo's and immediately wanted to be a part. Yes they rode in mud... yes they had a blast...

We will too!

Read the stories and think about how much fun we'll have!

Ivan

Posted by: Lemming

I have a plan, consume massive volumes of OH on Friday night and wake up late on Sat morning. That way Gomer and the boys will have a number of nice lines already cleared for me

I'll be showing up at TNT on Friday around 6, rain or shine.

Posted by: flynbryan

dirtiest award!!!!!!???????please if Barbara lets us on the trails I'll definately have a brown honda If we can ride the trails we'll be there....if not, I don't think we'll be there.

Posted by: andym

ok... so my next questions.

Is there a water hookup available for a pressure washer? What about a shower facility? If water hookups are available but no shower we can use my pressure washer to hose each other off.

You may be the only one I have to work late on Friday.

Either way I'm there Saturday morning.

Have had very little precipitation in our area, what has it been doing in Charlotte and to the south of you?

Last forecast I heard was Saturday high of 70 cloudy, and Sunday high of 60 cloudy. Hope it stays that way!

Salisbury has been getting off and on rain.......currently(and I stress currently ) it not raining here. Man I hope we get some slack from the rain maker

We will be there Friday, mid afternoon.

All those planning to show up Friday don't forget to call ahead and work it out with Barbara... (www.tntmotorsportsinc.com)

THE FINAL PLANS!!!

Weather looks like it should cooperate and we are going to have a great time!

Some people are arriving Friday night and Saturday morning at TNT and will be there through Sunday evening.  Some others are going to Manchester State Forest to ride sandy trails Saturday morning and then on to TNT Saturday afternoon.  The young lady at the gate will have the list of people who said they would be there, so you'll have to properly identify yourself from the list to get Barbara's surprise discount.

Again, it has been a tough time lately for Barbara and TNT because they have been closed so much due to rain.  She has gone way overboard allowing us to ride for free, so please either bring a shovel or pick and do some work on the trails or slip her a few dollars when she's not looking.

The trails at TNT may be open, but they will be muddy and still fairly torn up, so if you want to do some trail riding, come to Manchester Saturday morning.  I plan on getting there between 8 and 9 am and leaving there for TNT between noon and 2 pm.  Believe me, 3 or 4 hours chasing the Michelin Men through sandy trails will be *enough*!

Campfire, cookout, and bench racing Saturday night at TNT.

Sunday morning from 8:00 - 12:00 Ike wil be holding his class.  The tracks will still be open for people who aren't taking the class since he works on specific areas at a time.  Since it will be a shortened version of his day class, it will be crammed full and fast paced.  Be ready early and take notes.

I gave my 5 year old a crayon and told him to draw me a map of SC, so here it is:  http://www.mindspring.com/~mnyland/SC_Map.jpg

If anybody has problems or needs directions, my cell phone is 803-530-5993.  Call anytime, I'll turn it off if I want to sleep.

Posted by: flynbryan

advance notice Gomer the map print is too small to read  and is all well for what you and I discussed last night or is it Manchester only for that?

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Is your Internet Exploder window maximized (it usually reduces pics to fit in a window)? If it still isn't legible after maximizing the window, you can always right click on the link and "Save Target As" to a local file and pull it up in any image editing program.

Andy, there's no water there (I fill up my tank at the Shell station at exit 48...7 miles south of the TNT exit).

Yahoo!
Looks like some riding time a coming.
I'll be down on Friday afternoon. Anyplace good to set up camp?
Can I bring the chainsaw for some firewood cutting?

I am planning on heading to Manchester Saturday morning.
Sounds tough to get pass and be at the staging area by 8-9.

If I am late ride on and I will catch the next loop.

Wow, maybe this is coming true!

Looking forward to fellowship and riding.

Linus you are still welcome to bunk over.

Anyone else need a spot to lay their head? Not plush, but does have a gas stove for heat.

Mike

Posted by: andym

So here's my plan. If the forecast stays the same or gets better I will leave here around 6am. That should put me there around 11am. You guys should have a decent track doing by then. I'll be tent camping and cooking with my little one burner stove, please don't laugh at me. I've been told there is no need to bring firewood, I will bring a shovel to help with some work. Sunday I will need to leave around 3pm depending on how long it actually takes to get there. I hope some of you people are slow so I will have somebody to ride with.

Posted by: flynbryan

Count me as one slow one.......:thumb:

Posted by: Lemming

Andy no one will laugh at you since the have me to make fun of. After all, I'm the originator of the heat and eat burrito (fire style). Why do you think my sig is "I've got gas".

Posted by: James

Andy, I am coming back from a broken shoulder so we can ride slow together.

Guys, I don't know about Chester, but the bottom just fell out in Charlotte....roads are flooded and all of that. Hopefully it gets real dry over the next two days

Posted by: SpokerAce

Sounds like NC/SC is getting the storm we had here in Atlanta all last night.

No sign of rain coming in after today so we may get lucky...

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

TNT TRAILS WILL NOT BE OPEN!!

I talked to Barbara this morning and the trails will not be open. They are already too torn up and they wil be working to try to get them in shape for an upcoming trails conference meeting next week.

The tracks will be open. From previous experience the intermediate track down in the woods should be muddy all weekend, but the two kid's tracks and the big track (that is now beginner friendly) should dry out Saturday afternoon and be great Sunday.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Buncha sandbaggers claiming to be slow!

Posted by: flynbryan

Alright guys, but I'm sorry to say if there's no trails we'll sit this one out....... :whiner: Don't want to, but my fiance and her cousins will not have any desire to ride the MX track. Gomer if its still on I'm gonna try to make it out to Manchester sat. morning. And I'm supporting James's statement its DUMPING here in Salisbury as well. Hopefully I'll see some of you at Manchester and I'll at least come by TNT on the way home and do some met and greets. Ya'll have fun! :thumb:

Posted by: sammygor

How far is Manchester from TNT ? We are thinking about driving over to Sumter and staying in a hotel friday night. Riding Manchester saturday morning and then heading up to TNT saturday evening and riding sunday. Also any info on the closest hotel/motel to Manchester would be great.

Sunday morning from 8:00 - 12:00 Ike wil be holding his class.

Ivan & Gomer, what is the status on the class with Ike? ...cost? ...will we be using outboard motors. Loading animals two by two???

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

The class is on for Sunday morning, $75 each. A fair bit of his class deals with body positioning and controlling the bike. He'll start it in the upper field where it will be dry. By the time he gets to the track portion of his class the big track'll be dusty.

Sammy...I'll check on hotels. I'm also checking into reserving spots at Poinsett State Park: http://www.discoversouthcarolina.co...ail.asp?PID=662

It's within 5 miles of where we'll park Saturday morning. I'll post more info after I talk to them at 11:00.

LMOA I understand the last word was that all the animals would be loaded in Gomer mobile home. Its a land yacht so that should surfice

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Poinset State Park Arrangements
As mentioned above, their website is: http://www.discoversouthcarolina.co...ail.asp?PID=662

For anyone that wants to get there and spend the night Friday night...

It is just past the road for the Manchester SF HQ...paved road on right with sign for Poinsett State Park.

Call them at 803-494-8177 between 11-12 or 4-5 on Friday and tell them that you will be coming late Friday night. They will give you the combination to the gate and will come around Saturday morning to collect the money.

They don't have any cabins available, just camp sites. They are $12.96 for sites with water and electric and $9.72 for sites with just water. They have a max of 6 people per site / 2 units. (A unit is a tent, motorhome, trailer, etc).

Posted by: flynbryan

All right guys; head count who is gonna show for the manchester end of the ride? And is anyone gonna stay at Manchester all day sat?

Posted by: linusb

I'll be at Manchester Saturday...I'll get there as early as my lazy bones will let me. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it for the bench racing party that night at TNT. If I do, don't think I'll have time for cooking ribs...unless you guys want to eat them real late?

Posted by: truespode

Weather is looking better...

http://www.weather.com/outlook/trav...hatprefs=&GO=GO

Looks like at least 36 hours of dry weather. Not sure if it will be warm enough to dry it all up without some tractor work but I think things will be ok for the 'fest.

Ivan

Posted by: bscottr

The stars have aligned and I'm leaving Northern Va. at 5 p.m. Friday.

Manchester should be great Saturday morning and we might even find a puddle somewhere. If so, I've got dibs on roosting Gomer.

See ya Saturday a.m.

Got meat?

Posted by: whyzee

Scott,
If you need a place to stay Friday night on the way to Manchester, you're more than welcome. We're going to head out about 6:00 am to make Manchester by 9, 9:30 Sat morning.

Posted by: flynbryan

Hey guys we're looking at staying the night sat. night at Manchester, shouldn't be any problems w/the SF HQ right? If someone could let me know it would be greatly appreciated! Good to see your able to make it Scott looking forward to riding w/ya again.

Posted by: _SOLO_

It's chaos here, we ordered a trailer hitch on Wednesday, got here Thursday, wrong one. Took that one back Thursday night and it is supposed to be here 8:00 A.M. today. I don't have everything together and we still have to put the hitch on and get the van wired to the trailer before five and I get home at 3:30. If we don't get everything together the bike is getting thrown in the van like I did last July. Wish me luck.

Posted by: SpokerAce

If ya have to throw it in the van, hopefully it won't be as muddy as the last time!

I'll be at TNT this evening around 5-6....

See those that survive Manchester sometime on Saturday....

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

BScottR...yeah, I've even got some extra for ya!

Bryan...you can't camp at the trailhead. You can camp at Poinsett State park (about 3 miles away). Call them at 803-494-8177 between 11 and 12 or between 4-5 today so they can give you the combination to the gate and reserve a spot for you.

_SOLO_ That'll work! Did you get the top end done on the YZ?

SpokerAce...bring a hair dryer and prep the track for us, mmmKay?

Posted by: flynbryan

Yea I know Gomer we're going to Poinsett Park........if the Cousins come down that is.... If not we're definately there for Manchester at least Sat. I'm ready to play some tree ping pong!!

Posted by: linusb

Hey Ivan and James - You guys doin Manchester or going straight to TNT?

Posted by: flynbryan

Linus I dont know what your plans are,but if all goes well I think we're planning on spending the night sat. night.

Posted by: SpokerAce

We'll do our best to dry the track before ya'll arrive. Of course at the rate of speed I ride it might take a few days.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

We (Me, Danny, Tommy, _SOLO_, Tooner, Tooner's boss, Tooner's munchkins, JimboBillyBob, Sammy & Son, BScottR, Angie, Tom, Bryan, & others with Angie & Bryan) are going to Manchester Saturday morning then to TNT saturday afternoon.

As far as I know, FlynBryan, you're the only one staying at Manchester Saturday night.

Posted by: truespode

I should be at TNT sometime Saturday. I will not be able to make the Manchester trip.

I may not be staying Saturday night either... still up in the air on that. I should be back sometime Sunday if I don't stay Saturday. I am trying to figure it out where I can still do the class but that is not looking doable right now b/c of Saturday nigh.

Ivan

Posted by: flynbryan

Ok thats fine Gomer I think we'll just have a good time w/the 4 of ourselves..... Looking forward to seeing you guys. I'm hoping we'll get there around 10-10:30(sooner if the cousins end up not coming). Hopefully we'll get to ride w/ya'll for a while. If it weren't for the weather conditions leading up to this weekend I would've loved to ride w/ya'll at TNT. But we'll catch up w/who we miss at the next(hopefully drier) Suthin Ride!

Posted by: SpokerAce

_SOLO_ is going trail riding? Almost makes me want to show up at Manchester...

See ya'll sometime Saturday afternoon. Off to make my final errands run and then off to SC.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

(Shhhh...he doesn't know it, yet! I told him they had a track there. )

Posted by: whyzee

What's the weather looking like down there today? ... not that it's going to change my plans. Just need to know if we need to bring the rain gear.

Posted by: linusb

Believe it or not...the SUN is SHINING!!! I think the rain is over. Guess we won't need that ark afterall.

Posted by: SpokerAce

Highs of 74, 71, 67 in Chester starting today.

Should be a good weekend of riding. 74 today should help the track a bit too.

Posted by: flynbryan

SUN!!!

Posted by: andym

Guys it looks like I will have to skip this ride. I've got the oportunity to do some extra work this weekend and make really good money at it. I'm saving for a down payment on a house and this is one of those sacrifices I'll have to make. I'll still get to ride Sunday but it will be on a more local track.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Sorry to hear that, Andy. Next time we're going to come getcha!

Posted by: _SOLO_

Didn't get it done I will bring stuff to do it tonight. We did get the hitch on though! Gotta run, see you tonight Mike.

Posted by: linusb

I'm making a minor adjustment in plans...I'm feeling optimistic with this nice weather so I'm gonna go straight to TNT tomorrow. I got my smoker loaded up and 2 racks of spare ribs in the frig. I'm probably too late posting this now, but if you see me and I don't see you...flag me down. I have a white F150. I hope to get there around 11:00 a.m.

I'm not sure where everyone is planning on setting up? Methinks I'll call Gomer.

Posted by: HoleshotHank

I am going to skip Sumter also. Should be at TNT by 3:00. Save me a spot in the sunshine.......

Honda # 5

Posted by: flynbryan

probably too late for anyone to see ,but We'll be at Manchester tommarrow around 10-11am in a Green chevy p/u long bed. I'm on a CRF #111. See whoevers still coming there.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

OK, I'm done sabotaging MXTuna's and _SOLO_'s bikes! I'll be at Machester around 9:00. Anyone wanna watch Tuna try to start that thing after what I done?

BTW, bring Dave and the XR650 and we'll get it setup well enough that he won't want to sell it!

Thanks man, but I'm doing the United thing. :thumb: Too long of a drive for me. I'll see you guys around 9 a.m.

Had a great time sat. guys! Hope you had lots of fun today. We went back and hammered the trails at Manchester again. Man those whoops are getting huge! Lots of fun though. It was good seeing Whyzee(Dave), Mark(can't remember screen name...), Bscottr, Gomer, and some other great people. And to all who's names I forgot, please forgive me I'm terrible w/names. Anyway hope to see some pics from our Manchester ride as well as the TNT ride soon.
