Hertz car for DW ... no way

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: JWW

Got a quote from Hertz today for a car to run back and forth from DW to the motel. $55 a day...

Any other companies out there. Anybody want to rent me their car?

Posted by: Patman

Fly. It will run ya' about $300 and you'll save days of travel.

Posted by: Okiewan

He was talking about a local commute car Pantless...
There is always a ride to town Jeff, don't worry about it.

That rate would be double if you told them you were going to Cooperland.. rental companies just love dirtbikers

Posted by: keith500r

patman, is this some sort of bolt on kit? $300 to fly from the motel to DW, i'll take one! he he. j/k

Posted by: JWW

Flying in Tuesday night...

Patmans picking me up and Okies giving rides to the hotel and Elks hauling the bike :thumb:

Im set.....Thanks guys

I always try to find a rental place away from the airport, the airport ones charge a premium price for the convenience.

Check out the local car dealers too...Sometimes they have rent a wrecks,
that's why they never have loaners when your car is getting serviced.

If you are a AAA member you should be able to get one for way less than that. With Hertz the earlier you reserve a car, the cheaper it is.

Dude, you are staying at the track so shut it! We'll get you a ride to the hotel for the shower and back, don't worry. Don't rent a car, plenty of folks go into town and you can hitch a ride if necessary or use my truck.

Posted by: MX-727

No, no, no, rent the car. Make sure you mention that you'll need the insurance.

(Hmmmmmm....I wonder how close we could come to clearing the step up with Jeff's rental......) :thumb:

Posted by: JWW

:scream:

You are NOT cleared for takeoff

Posted by: BSWIFT

How about the grass track, better yet, Patman's trials demonstration!

Whats the fastest car in the world?

..Rental car

Posted by: a454elk

I'm seeing a vision here, a vision of a rental car flying through the air over the step up with Patman naked on the hood and BSWIFT driving! :scream: ACCKKKKKKKKK!!!!

Posted by: MX-727

Seems a lot of your visions and dreams are centered around naked men.....

Posted by: a454elk

No, they are centered around reality!

Posted by: Treejumper

There's going to be 100+ vechicles with keys in them there and you think your going to have rent one? See what riding an RM does to you? It makes you have to worry about having a reliable backup.

The Michigan crew showed up to DW '02 with two RVs and had no problem getting a ride to town for supplies.  In fact one DRNer allowed a complete stranger take his new truck to pick up a bike - thanks again MX 727.

DOH! That will teach me to try and cheap out on the speed reading course!

I do hear rental cars are good for traction. Just tell them the rubber "stripes" are a value added feature, or that you hit a really big bug.

Posted by: zio

I don't understand your need for a rental car.... read your sig line.

Posted by: JWW

I was going to split a room and car with Pvt. Joker. Didnt really want to ride doubles.

It looks things are coming together. Got a tent and air mattress and it sounds like I can take just about anybodys vehicle.

I took all the dual sport equip off when I broke the switch. I guess I need to get off my butt and fix it.

Posted by: zio

Good call, Jeff. Too much camraderie to miss out on at camp. Depending on who comes with me, I may have room in my tent trailer, too. There's no way you'll be uncomfortable, unless of course you do like I did & decline offers to stay in people's RV. I say ditch the tent & mattress. You won't need them.

Zio's right.  You could show up Broke, homeless and bikeless and it would still be the best week of your life.  You'd end up full, drunk, and tired from riding everyone else's bikes, eating their food, and drinking their beer!  It's awesome.  The atmosphere and friendliness is unbelievable.  I'm ready to go tomorrow.

Plus, you definately don't want to miss the late night camp fire action!

In preparation for DW03, I've started leaving my cooler outside.  You can't believe how loud the hinges are.

Maybe we could get about a dozen rental cars and do the I R O C thing on the grass track

Now thats funny. Of course it puts you 1'st on the list but hey it's all in good fun. At least have the decency (like Tony) to have a few GOOD beers stowed away. That damn Randy didn't donate anything but bud-light

Nope, everbody drank all the other brands around the bonfire. And this year I am bringin' my pet 'gator to stand guard! :thumb:

Uh Randy, I don't really remember meeting you last year.  Did I, uh, steal your beer on Saturday night?

Posted by: MX-727

The secret to solving the beer stealing problem is to make sure you buy so much beer that you never miss the ones that end up being "donated" for the furthurance of DW fun! :thumb:

Posted by: Timr

Don't worry, this year, I'll bring enough beer to repay some of my beer debt from last year.

If you were with Eddie and the rest stealing from all the rest, I guess you did.  I had bought enough the night of the bonfire to hopefully last a while.  That was what it was there for.

Tim... I was camped over with the Heartland Spodes, driving an orangish and black F-250 and riding a KTM 250 RFS that GETMETOCA bought while there.  We'll have to hook up this year for some trail fun.

Believe it or not my beer stayed safe every night. I left it sitting outside under my canopy right next to the bigtop. Just like I say at work "safest place to hide is right out in plain sight
BTW I think I scared a couple of the raiders in the planning stage when I stepped outside at about 2AM to check on a leakage

I'm curious by nature but I don't think I want to know what that really means

Randy,

I was at the Saturday night campfire with Eddy, Bundy, Mully, and Sarge until about oh, Sunday morning.  We scoured the campground for beer in the early morning hours just before the sun came up.  Unfortunately, the Texas beer was long gone, so we had to find new untapped sources to continue our party.

I saw your bike, the 250 RFS, and I was in the Heartland Spodes camp for a while talking with Justin for a while.  Did we have birthday cake together on Saturday night?

Bad Texans ....

I thought it was funny when I rose up out of my sleeping bag when Eddie opened the cooler next to the head of my cot. I spooked him for a moment.

I couldn't complain, there were new brews in the cooler the next afternoon.
