A friend of mine here in NZ and just finished development of an engine hour meter specially designed for dirtbikes. You can use it to schedule your maintenance.

Kawasaki is so impressed that they are going to fit them to every dirt bike new in NZ.

You can find them at www.motominder.com

cheers

Looks like a really nice piece.\
I just ordered one from the site and once I get it I'll do a write up on it for the DRN Tested section.

It does look like a nice unit, but the price is a bit high:
mm unit: $USD 60.00 each
shipping: $USD 5.00
The date function is a nice feature. One year warranty and a non-replaceable battery is much the standard I found when looking at these devices.

I put the Yamaha units on all three dirt bikes and have been pleased with the accuracy and results ... and they are half the price.

Let us know how you like it Rich.

If it holds up to the abuse that a dirt bike can throw at it it's worth $65

If it holds up to the abuse that a dirt bike can throw at it .... and you can get it for $35 , THAT's even better.
Joka, I've got three of the Yamaha units too and they have worked great!

The yamaha version only records running time, the motominder records date of start up and can be reset for changing to new bikes. This also means you can prove the hours you have done by the date when you sell the bike on.

It also has a two minute display time after you turn the mx bike off, giving you time to take your helmet off to view the display.

Small things but they make a difference in day to day use.

Looks like a great product to me, YZ-Red.

YZ-Red, KTM is mandating the fitting of those to monitor usage for warranty here in NZ. I have one on my '04 KTM fitted as part of the deal.

can these meters backfire and ruin the electronics? i've since taken mine off when my 250 had trouble running, i don't know if it was the meter or something else..?

Northern Tool has a really nice one that I wish I would have gotten. Gomer is getting one like it. It is around $40 and does current RPM when the engine is running and total run time when the engine is off.

SenDEC models...

Hour Meter: http://www.pitposse.com/hourmeter.html

Hour/Tach Meter: http://www.pitposse.com/tachhourmeter.html

I do like the fact that the MotoMinder stores and displays the start date.
