XR handlebar question

I've got an '01 XR250R that I'm wanting to put a fat bar handlebar on. Was wondering if some of you guys could give me some pro's and con's on the different upper triple clamps that are available. I'm definitely wanting to move the bars forward some. Not sure if height is a real issue with me, but any info you would like to share I'd appreciate. Most of my riding is woods, hills, and rocks.

Draybob.

Not sure if there are any triple clamps available for your bike or not, but you might check on a set of TAG bar adapters. They adapt fat bars to your stock triple clamp and in doing so, move the bars up and forward. Or up and back depending on how you mount them.

The adapters clamps are much less expensive than the triple clamp too. Should be available at your local accessory shop.

Just my $ .02

I have an Applied Racing upper clamp for my 01 XR250.  It was a big improvement over stock.  It moved the bars about 1/2" to 1" forward, and then the bar mount can be rotated to mount the bars a little closer or farther, which ever you want.  There are 2 very small problems with this clamp though.  The main one being with the bars in the forward position, its hard to get to the screw on top of the forks to bleed the air pressure.  The other problem is the pinch bolt holes are slightly farther apart than the stock bolt holes, so the top break hose guide wont bolt up to the clamp.  To fix this, i just cut the bottom bolt hole off of this piece, grinded it smooth and put it on

I did what Ol'89er recommended. I put CR Hi-Bend Pro Tapers on my '97 XR400 with a set of Moose adaptors. It was much cheaper than installing a completely new triple clamp and the result was great. The bars are farther forward and over an inch higher. I'm 6'1" so the additional bar height was great.

I know you said height wasn't a big deal, but for others out there...I bought two additional handlebar clamps (the little aluminum ones that go on top of the handlebars) as well as four longer bolts and put the new clamps under the handlebars. I also rolled the stock bars forward a little bit and got at least an inch out of it. Total cost was like $20 and it works great. *Winter Rules*

I'm confused. I bought some Pro Tapers for my 2000 XR400, the stock bars were bent up when I bought it... got the adapters, etc. When I got home and took my old bars off, I realized that the triple clamp and bar clamps are one piece. The Pro Tapers won't fit into the stock clamp and I can't remove the clamps! Was it different in '97? I didn't want to cough up any more coin for the new triple clamp, so I bailed on the whole deal and bought some Renthals...
