2004 Ladies' Valentines Day Spodefest (Reno)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Strick

Well as soon as the infamous Dirtweek 2003 comes to an end. Maybe start thinkin' about Valentine's Day in the desert, huh?

I am up for it if you are. Just let me know!

Strick

Posted by: RetSenior

Strick...is it an open invation. Can I come? If I can you can count me in.

Posted by: LoriKTM

Wouldn't that be 2004 Valentines Day, Strick??!!  :o

Hmm... Better start saving my pennies now!

Posted by: Strick

Thanks Lori,

And I have TWO extra bikes this year.

'98 XR200
'02 WR426

Everyone is welcome, especially Ret Senior!

Posted by: gospeedracer

WHOOOOO HOOOOO!! The plotting and schememing begins now...........

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

I decided to change the name since this one could "live" for quite a while.

Posted by: Unkle Moose

I'm again Strick and have a couple neighbors who want to join in. Can I be incharge of the firewood this year. Someone has to take care of those 3 crazy canucks.

See ya soon.
Kraig

Posted by: Strick

Kraig the firewood is yours. Lot's more fallen trees this year. We had one heck of a downpour in July.

Thanks Gomer for correcting the title. I hope this thread bumps the other 2 records from the prior years.

The advanced riders are in for some treats.

Posted by: motohead00

I would be interested if I can get someone to haul bikes for me this year, or borrow/rent one after flying in. The 4800 mile round trip for two days riding was a little too much last year. It was a lot of fun, but I just don't see being able to pull it off again this year.

ra

Posted by: Kokanee

I think we all will probably be in for coming down to ride. Be warned there may be more than 3 of us this time!!!! Lets get a couple more people camping with us this time. Its not that cold.

Posted by: gospeedracer

Crazy canucks is right! Don't forget the blender!!

Randy, what we need to do is to find some suck...er....person to haul a flatbed trailer out there with all of our bikes, then we can all just fly in like pro-riders
I'm wondering if enough people (10?) pitched in to cover this person's costs if someone would want to do it.

Posted by: Farmer John

Calendar officially marked....in pen :thumb:

Wife & kids may go this time

Posted by: Strick

Motohead00 I have an extra bike ('02 WR426). If you can't get your bike here you can ride this one. You won't be dissapointed in this bike - trust me.

Posted by: Unkle Moose

Well it looks like my wife and kids will be coming, maybe we can our kids off their bikes so we can have night MX races.

Also should be bringing DRStack and his XR400 again and my neighbor F205Billy on his KTM 300 and his family.

All camping out in the great wilderness. (wife says she's going to a Hotel)
Bye Honey

Posted by: bbbom

I'm not saying anything because if I plan ahead the DOT will certainly put a job out for the 17th.

But, Valentines Weekend is always a good weekend for strawberry daquiries!!

Strick, with that being the case I will take you up on the offer if Speedy's bike hauling plan doesn't come together. I appreciate it!!!

Posted by: Strick

O.K., until further notice the WR is reserved.

Posted by: motohead00

Strick,

I will be contacting you shortly after DW '03 and let you know how things are looking on this end in case someone else can use the bike.

Thanks again, amigo! :thumb:

Strick......

I'm just getting over last years nightmare!

I'll be there.....would not miss it!!

Rick

Posted by: Strick

Rick - how is your knee? AND what happened to the annual Elkins Flat ride?

Posted by: Unkle Moose

Hello Rick glad to see your still around. So I take it you finally got all parts to put that GAS GAS back together!

See ya soon.
Kraig

Posted by: MR.WR

Strick,

Just too much going on right now. Been working way too much....

Elkins Flat.....where is that???? Man, I have not been on my bike since that mishap in Reno. The bike is together just waiting for some rain to settle the dust.

My knee is "ok", my little finger is the one that gives me problems.....it still looks like my subframe!

Rick

Posted by: dave186

Unkle Moose started a thread over at husaberg.org, I plan on being there and hope to see a lot more 'bergs out there!

Posted by: firecracker22

I will SO be there! And it looks like I might have to drive my own rig this year. Oh well. It will probably be my first ride back after ACL surgery--I go under the knife on Oct. 13.

I might be bringing a good friend and the DT for him to ride. It should be fun--if it doesn't get him completely hooked on riding, nothing will.

We were talking about taking a day to head over to Tahoe for some snow--anyone else interested? If so, what day?

Lori, what was that hotel we stayed in the first year?

Posted by: 380EXCman

Was it the Atlantis.....?

Posted by: dave186

holy crap, he lives!

Aha! Yes it was. Thank you.

Posted by: bbbom

Good FRIEND?

Nope, it was the Peppermill but from looking around online they don't have any good cheap deals. Any other hotels worth looking at?

Posted by: firecracker22

Yes a friend. And a very good (looking) one at that.

Looks like the Atlantis and the Peppermill are too rich for my blood at this point, sounds like the Best Western will do for me.

Just do your rehab.... Is this the second ACL reconstruction for you?

I'll be there provided I have a job and get the time off. I'm pretty sure I'll be working weekends as the FNG........

Yep.

I'm looking forward to another fantastic ride like last year. Pray for rain, or better yet, SNOW! I'm looking for a job in the area. That would be so cool if I were a local!

Posted by: GETMETOCA

Reno???  Heck yeah!  I second the Canucks don't forget their blender!!!

Posted by: Dirty Dave

We are in! Another family affair. They all had a ball and made me promise to notify them of the next ride. My son is back from Iraqi Freedom so he should be there this year. Bought the granddaughter a JR50 so I'm sure she'll be ready. Pics from Walker River Resort south of Carson City, Nv.

YESYESYES; 'can't WAIT to "pod race" with ya'll and to cheer on the slushy maker experts again in 2004!!!

Posted by: biglou

We're working on a plan to rent a big truck to drive the bikes in and have everyone fly except two of us. If it all comes together, I'll be there again this year. Had an absolute blast last year. Never ridden the open desert before. And here I also thought we had hills in Mizzourah!

PS-SirT, sold the kTm, bringing ol' blue with me this year. Gonna be a good race up the whoop hill!

Posted by: dave186

I'll race ya up that hill Lou!

Posted by: biglou

You're on, Dave! :thumb:

Posted by: CSL

Hey Strick,

Ya gonna show us some more "secret" places if we come out a day early again this year?

I was thinking we'd come out and be there by Wednesday night. Ride Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. :thumb:

Oh, and I'm really hoping to see this again!

FYI - The California Association of 4WD Clubs annual convention is Valentines weekend as well. I believe it's at the Hilton. They usually have pretty darn good car show and vendor's section.

Sounds fun, I meant to stop off at the Summit Racing store while i was down there last year.

Posted by: Strick

CSL - I have plenty of 'secret' places for the people that arrive early for a Thursday ride.

Posted by: CSL

Strick... Cool! :thumb: Jen and I are planning on arriving Wednesday night again.

Note to everyone else. I read a couple posts about the price of rooms at the Peppermill being too steep.

Tower rates are:
$49 Thursday night
$79 Friday night
$99 Saturday night
$89 Sunday night

Lodge rates are $10 cheaper per night. ($39, $69, $89, $79) Not really that much higher than the Best Western at $63/night. However, the Peppermill website says blocks of 15 or more rooms are available at discount rates. I've called and inquired on what the rates might be if we could gaurantee getting at least 15 rooms. They're working on a quote for me. They will also offer a banquet room for Saturday night as a seperate line item, if we want it.

Question is, is anyone else interested in the Peppermill?

Big advantage of the Peppermill is it's spacious parking lots (nice for trailers). The Atlantis has similar parking lots but the prices START generally higher.

What do ya say? Think we can get at least 15 people/couples to commit on rooms? Obviously, once a decision is made, a deposit will be required in advance. So, don't say you're committed unless you're really serious.

Last year, I think the Valentine's Ride drew over 100 people, and I know many of you stayed at the Peppermill. I think it would be easy to commit to 15 rooms, but I'll not press the issue if no one else is interested.

Either way, CJ Rider and I, and at least 2 others will be staying there. The Reno ride is our "highlight" ride each year and the comfort of a hot tub and easy access to food and drinks makes it much more of a real vacation than camping, which we pretty much do the rest of the year.

Posted by: dave186

I would be interested.

Posted by: CSL

Well, I just heard back from the Peppermill. They said the rate shown on the Internet is wrong... and the tower rooms are actually 89/109/99, Friday/Saturday/Sunday. She could give us a rate of $89/night across the board on tower rooms and $79 for lodge rooms, but can't go any cheaper because they already sell out that weekend every year, being that it's a holiday weekend.

So, the rate I posted above 79/99/89 averages out to $89/night. And that's about the best we can get at the Peppermill, as a group.

I'm still game for it if 14 others are. Steve? Gotcha down as a possible. :thumb:

Strick? Any other casinos/hotels we should be looking into for negotiating a group rate? My preference would be large, well lit parking lots and a hot tub. Nearby dining is also nice but lower priority. Just my $0.02.

Posted by: Strick

bbbom has one she located, maybe she will share the info.

What whoop hill? and who raced? I don't remember any whoops or races. I just remember alot of people following me around.

Posted by: Tony Eeds

I hope to make it this year, if I can only get my daughter to have my grandson's birthday a week earlier or later. Maybe if I promise to get him a PW50 ....

Posted by: chblock

If I remember right, you guys met at Moon Rocks last time. I assume that's where you will be meeting this time. I live in Sparks not far from there. I listed the closest hotels/casinos. These are all in Sparks next to Pyramid Highway and I-80. Staying on the other side of town at Peppermill or Atlantis would probably be a bad idea because traffic is hideous since the city has started a massive revamp of the freeways which won't be done for another year or two.

John Asquaga's Nugget Casino 775-356-3300
Silver Club Hotel & Casino 775-358-4771
Western Village Inn and Casino 775-331-1069 (best pokies)
Quality Inn 775-358-6900
Fairfield Inn 775-355-7700 (east side of Sparks, not as close, but convenient)

To get to Moon Rocks, you just go North on Pyramid Highway 17 miles from I-80 to Winnemucca Ranch Road (WRR). WRR forks off PH so you go 6.2 miles up WRR then left 1.5 miles up a dirt road just after a fenced piece of property to the Moon Rocks parking area.

Okay, I need to get a head count of those who would be interested in having their bike trucked out to Reno so they could fly in for the ride.

The take off point will most likely be in Kansas City so if you're not on the beaten path between Kansas City and Reno you would need to find a way to at least get your bike to KC or find someone who can. I'm willing to travel a reasonable distance to help get bikes to KC if needs be, so let me know if you want to get in on this but need some logistical help.

The way I figure it we will need at least 8 to 10 people to make this work and be cost effective.

As it stands now, the following is a list of those who have expressed interest in this deal:

gospeedracer
MrLuckey
BigLou
Motohead00
Nikki & Reddog
bhawky
mrmodine
Agent Orange
XR3J (Jerry)
SrKXrider
Julius Pleaser
Rooster
Tony Eeds

If I've forgotten you or you would like to be added to the list, let me know.

Posted by: bbbom

Hey, I'm back!!!!

I did find a couple good deals on the net - the Golden Phoenix Hotel for $52.00 per night through www.orbitz.com but with not too good of reviews - apparently the plumbing is noisy

Siena Hotel Spa & Resort for Fri $ 75.95 Sat $ 79.95 Sun $ 49.95 through www.hotels.com with reviews comparable to Peppermill reviews and super comfy beds. Not sure if the pool & hot tub close early like Peppermill or not.

Club Cal Neva is available for Fri $33.95 Sat $55.95 Sun $58.95 from www.travelworm.com only one review and apparently no hot tub or pool.

I emailed Siena to see what kind of deal they'd make for a block of 15 rooms. Will let you know when I hear from them.

Posted by: GETMETOCA

Ahhhhh!  The Reno Thread!!  I've been so wrapped up in Dirtweek I forgot for a little teensy while.   Aimee, I think Agent Orange will want in on the transport from KC, and possibly mrmodine.  I'll pressure them

I'm going to try and stay at the Peppermill again, that was a blast.  Except Bratt and I were too tired to host the partay extravaganza in our Spa Suite.  We hung out at the Fireside Lounge til 10 PM  like old ladies.

Where is the bulk of the group staying this year?  And somebody PLEASE make sure Kiwi has a ride to dinner

Posted by: gospeedracer

I'm down for the Peppermill again too. I like that place.

I'm working on a plan  to try and make this one. It would help me greatly to truck my bike out from KC. Sounds like to much fun to miss

Posted by: biglou

We have a trailer secured. At the very least, we have a 16' open trailer with ramp on the back. It is 6 houses down the street from me. It is brand new and belongs to a buddy of mine and Al's (Agent Orange) that we went to school with and he and I went into the Marines together (as did our dads!). Eddie has a line on a couple of 20' enclosed race trailers, too. So one way or another, we have a trailer. Working on getting a Super-Duty to pull with. I'll keep everyone posted but it looks like we are good to go. Tony Eeds has volunteered his truck if he can get his grandson's Bday party rescheduled to another weekend. Otherwise, we will have to see if Al, Red or even Randy would be up for offering their truck. We're thinking $500 plus gas from KC to Reno and back to whoever volunteers their truck. That will keep the transport costs to $100 or less per person.

Posted by: Tony Eeds

Randy and I talked about him being a "works" rider for the event with domestiques handling all the mundane jobs related to riding and him flitting in for the festivities and back out again once they are complete ...

Posted by: bratt

RENO!!!!!!
Ahh the memories of my first organized DRN event. I plan on being there again this year since I had so much fun last year.
So ladies, is the hot spot the Peppermill again this year?

Posted by: VintageDirt

I might could see me in Reno this time. But I'm probably not going to know for sure until the last minute.

What day do most people get there?

Peppermill is good, yes?

Wes-We're shooting for Fri-Sat-Sun this year. Last year was just Fri-Sat for us. Any combination of those three days will work.

You guys make are making this awful tempting. I have read about this ride for the last couple of years and always wanted to go but never could get all the logistics worked out. This year the wife said yes and she even wants to go. SO Speedy put me down for a "definite maybe" on the bike transport. I will email ya later for more details.

The Beverly Hillbillies may be coming to Reno ... YAAHOO !!!

Posted by: CSL

If anyone in the Colorado Springs / Denver area wants to go and fly into Reno, I'll have room for another bike or two. I won't have room for another body though, just bikes (enclosed trailer pulled behind a pickup).

Posted by: gospeedracer

Waaaahooo! That would be AWESOME if you could make it Mikeyb! I updated my list on page 3.

We really need to work on Nikki and Red!!

So Will I take it you and Jen are in again this year?! YAY!

Posted by: GETMETOCA

Heads up - I just tried to book a Spa Suite at the Peppermill and they were all booked up!!!!

Tower rooms are still available, but it would be wise to book now. www.peppermillreno.com

Update:  I checked Expedia.com and there are Spa Suites available cheaper than rack rates - go there!!

I just called them (1-866-821-9996) & got a Motor Lodge room fro $49/night.
The customer service rep I spoke with said that the online brokers show "Sold Out" at 40% booking.....so if you get shut down, call them.

Posted by: Rooster

Alright, I am IN! I will find a way!

Save a spot in the trailer for my bike, I will be flying out.

Anyone want to share a room?

Farmer John,

Did you get $49/night for weekend rates?!? I called and they told me $69 for Friday, $89 for Saturday and $79 for Sunday.

Aimee, yep we're in! :thumb:

Most thanks to YOU! :thumb:

Posted by: CSL

To all:

I posted a few pages back about getting a group discount rate. $89/night Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

If anyone has found a better rate for those night, please post how you got it. Otherwise, it would be nice to team up and get the group rate directly from the Peppermill. We need to get at least 15 rooms to get that rate.

I've got our backup plan already booked elsewhere (the Fairfield Inn in Sparks), but can cancel it right up until the day we arrive if something better comes along. I'd like to stay at the Peppermill too, but the cost is $20/night more without the group rate.

(BTW, that's the tower rate.)

Posted by: firecracker22

Bsmith, are you driving down? When? What kind of vehicle do you have? Any interest in carpooling, or at least caravanning? (I'd rather not drive my rattletrap tin can of a pickup that far if I can avoid it but I'll survive if I have to)

Posted by: nikki

So what days are you guys riding? Fri-Sun? Anyone riding Monday? Or Thursday?

I'm ticket hunting and having a hard time finding anything under $800 (2 tix - Chicago to Reno). If I wasn't planning a trip to Romania this December to see my step-sis as well... it wouldn't be so bad.

But we're considering... and would be willing to share a room with someone to save a few $ as well.

Posted by: Camstyn

How cold will it be at night for camping?

I'll have a new tent by then, as cozy as the other one was

Posted by: firecracker22

Peppermill reservations made! I even put down for Monday night in case we decide to stay and ski at Tahoe for an extra day.

Let me know what's up with the group rates, do we have enough people?

I'm thinking of getting there Thursday night and leaving Monday morning.

I don't know how the wifey would take it that on Valentines Weekend for the Valentine ride I was taking a 24 year gal that also rides a KTM :scream: for she allready thinks I'm wierd for meeting a bunch of dirt peeps I've never met before

I got $59 for Friday night & $49 for Sat & Sun nights.....Tell them you want the Motor Lodge & not the Tower.

CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH .. That is the sound me eating my words. I get home last night and start talking to her about the ride and she looked at me with that blank stare that only means one thing "I never said that" WTF? Looks like I am out. Dont get me wrong here I REALLY want to go and she is actually OK with me going but it is terrible timing for me to spend that kind of $$. My wifes birthday is 2 weeks after and I was hoping to bring her along and stay around for a few days for her Bday and since she aint going it is hard to justify me spending her birthday $$ on me.

Sorry If I got yall's hope up that someone was going to be there that was slower than you.  :whiner:

Cool. Thanks man. That was the ticket. I was making the mistake of asking for the Lodge which is the 3-story and more expensive rooms, instead of the Motor Lodge, which is the 1-story ghetto. :thumb:

$29 for Wednesday and Thursday nights
$49 for Friday and Sunday nights
$65 for Saturday night

Seriously though we will have the room. It will be, me, dave186 and my wife in a 4 door F150...

Yes! I'm bringing the motoweapon this year. Things will be different...

Posted by: bsmith

Lou, I'm willing to put money down that my 520 will take your XR50 motoweapon in a uphill drag race

Posted by: Kokanee

This is for Cam. Shake your head ,you are Canadian! Its like a hot Vancouver summer day down there in Febuary. Pack your shorts and sunscreen! Not to worry though we are bringing a chainsaw this year so we can really show people how to make a fire. As the time gets closer let me know and maybe we can caravan.

Posted by: dave186

Yup, I got out the starting gate and did a bit of welding and tuning on it, might even shoot a coat of paint on it! and that F150 might have four doors, but hows about you and me try to get in em :silly:  I think we should take my truck, sounds like the Canadians need a log skidder

Bsmith, I guess I can understand your wife's point of view but dammit, why don't people understand it's all about the DIRT BIKES???

380, I will have another (non-DRNer) with me so we'd need room for both of us, luggage, gear, and 2 bikes. So unless someone has an SUV or extended cab pickup with a trailer, I'll just drive my Toyota.

MikeB, we'll miss you! Too bad it won't work out. You would have had SO much fun.

Lou, you gonna ride the motoweapon through the fire? Nice thing about Reno, there's no curfew . . . haha

Kokanee, can I run the chainsaw? I really like chainsaws.

Posted by: biglou

Haha, not that motoweapon! The big blue one...

Although, fiddy races up that hill would probably be good for those wanting to take pics, since it's be the longest drag race in history. Prolly some pushing/running alongside involved, too.

Nikki, Reddog...........don't you have something to say??

Our room is booked at the Peppermill motor lodge, 12th-16th! Got the same rates as CSL.

Add (1) Nikdog and (1) Reddog to the Reno list

We're flying into Sacramento and will be arriving at the riding spot with Natty Friday afternoon! Now all I need is to book a room!

Thanks Natty and Aimee for twisting our arms and making us go - it's gonna be a damn good time!! But please be gentle as we are desert virgins!

Posted by: GETMETOCA

Yay Nik-Dog Yay Red-Dog!!

Posted by: thumbs

7 & pages worth, where the hell have I been?

I'm in for a few days.

Posted by: Strick

Tony & Lou domestiques? I sure am glad I raced (road) bicycles for all those years. That little comment might cost you a 65 mph desert ride and the end of a buddy tow.

Should be fun for all. Desert racing is just like MX, without the jumps, a lot more whoops, hillclimbs thrown in, rocks here and there, g-outs, waterfalls, and let's not forget those downhills.

Just kidding desert newbies. The greatest single thing about Moonrocks is how versatile it is. Beginner to National champion, everyone seems to have a great time.

Posted by: Dirtygirly

Wow, planning the Reno trip already. I would hate to miss the 4th year. I want to say that I will be able to come and ride but I'm not sure when my skeleton sliding season ends in Lake Placid. The season ends in February but whether or not it is before Valentines Day is still to be determined. It would be nice to get Stinker out and ride in the desert so I could thaw out from the cold weather. :thumb:

Posted by: bbbom

Don't worry Nikki, we'll be sure to arrange a Karl ride for you guys to properly introduce you to the desert trails. We (at least I) will try to avoid horsepoop hill this year.

It's always nice to ride with new victims, err uh friends.

Dirtygirly, hope you can make it too.

Posted by: gospeedracer

Dang Noelle! You sure have been busy! Hope you can make it again this year.

Posted by: biglou

Nik-Don't let'em scare ya. This is Lou talkin' to ya here. I had a blast. Incredible time. If I had fun, so will you guys! :thumb:

Very busy with the Police Academy. I'm going to try and make it for the TW but I can't promise.......

Mmmmm. Desert riding sounds like fun. As long as we don't do any high speeds or technical riding, I might show up. It would be good to see everyone again, too. Cheers.

You sir, were the king of technical two years ago.

Hey Strick I can bring my DEROSA for a quick little ride. My wife keeps telling me "why don't you sell that dam bike hanging in the garage!" Dear you never sell a classic made by Mr. Ugo Derosa.

KOKONEE I will be bringing some logs this year has long as my Husaberg fe501e can run the blender.

Would a statement like this to people that have never met Mr. endoquest be considered cherry-picking? Isn't Mr. endoquest one of Kiwis' 'Spanksgiving' buddies?

If so, here is my appropriate response,  and my warning to anyone that would choose to ride in his group: make sure your life insurance is paid up!

I think that husaberg will make fine drinks!!! If you are going to bring wood bring lots!!! We like BIG fires!!

There are SOOOO many fallen trees out there BEGGING to be burned, I would say there is plenty of wood.

while all you posers are devising all your motoweapons and SirT beaters, I'll be over here taking a nap. Wake me before the gate drops.

Looking forward to meeting my chat friend Rooster, seeing all my riding buddies and spanking my favorite FSX competitor's butt all over the desert.
. You guys will have a blast, it's well worth the trip.

I better go ride.

Posted by: dirtjunkie

So I'm thinkin they will be chatin soon about this...ha ha!
Hey lets not forget KiWi this time. Maybe we should put a electronic monitoring ankle bracelet on him this year. At least if we ditch him we'll know where he is...
I would like to camp if I can get a little extra time to tow my crack shack on wheels all the way up there.
Can't wait!
See ya there,
Chris

Posted by: Strick

Chris - Kiwi normally has that ankle bracelet on (you know that whole house arrest thing) - Just Kidding!

See you in Feb!

Posted by: KiwiBird

Hey! Who's been talking to my parole officer?

Posted by: gospeedracer

Okay, looks like we've got aprox. 60 (including guests) confirmed so far and another 5 on the fence.

According to my records, there are still 31 members who attended last year but have yet to pipe up in here.

Posted by: Tree

Well I guess I'm one of the 31. But I'm bumming because I won't be able to make it this time. My daughter has a cheer competition in Las Vegas that weekend and the wife said I couldn't drop her and my daughter off on my way to Reno so I'm not going to make it.

I'll have to catch up with everyone at Dirtweek '04. :thumb:

Posted by: Rooster

SirThumper! Hey, glad to see you're gonna make it. Never in my life did I ever think I was going to get to ride the desert, but thanks to DRN and some VERY wonderful and persuasive friends...ahem...cough Aimee, Eddie, Lou et. al...cough ahem, I am gonna be there!!

Posted by: gospeedracer

Yep, you would be one of those 31, Tree. Bummer, well miss you there. Now who am I gonna get lost in the dez with?!

Posted by: GETMETOCA

Tree's not going to Reno??? The Lost Girlz Sweep Extraordinaire.... You'll be missed!

Posted by: bratt

Not good considering I was the lost one most of the time last year.

Posted by: Unkle Moose

I'm in and weather permitting so is the whole fam damily.
Also Dr.Stack will be returning and adding my neighbor Bill (F205Twister)

Hey NVRFNSH are you renting out rooms at the Palace this year?

I'll bring my compass

Posted by: gospeedracer

Don't worry girls, remember.........."Just follow ME!" LOL!
I already sent MrLuckey a reminder to put his GPS on the "Reno Packing List".

Posted by: Strick

Lost? Never head south if you are lost. Head North - you will eventually make it out to the main Road (Winnemucca Ranch Road). Maybe I will prepare fanny pack maps this year - but then again maybe not

Posted by: thumbs

I'm booked at my usual place, building "G" (Annex Building King/Decorated To Mirror Tower) at the Peppermill.

Julie and I will be arriving late Wednesday night on the 11th and departing Monday morning.

Since it is Valentines Day weekend I think it would be in my best interest to take Julie skiing for a day. With that said we will probably go skiing in Tahoe on Thursday or Friday. If anyone would like to join us let me know.

BTW - I promise I won't let Julie forget Kiwi this time.

It's about time Count David and I in.  Wouldn't miss it for nothing.  This year Tucker will be giving GETMETOCA a run for her money

Strick, if you need any help let me know, we are just around the corner from Reno.  I'll be looking for you at RimBenders.

Keith and I might be into that. What level d y'all ride at? Skis or snowboards? I vote for Friday, personally, or Monday if that's a possibility.

We both ski but I might be talked into the snowbaord thing just to give it a try. Julie is an intermediate and I'm an advanced skier. I'll plan to ski with her most of the day but I'll want to get a few runs in on the black diamonds and crunch a few cookies.

We will be heading home on Monday so Friday might have to be the day.

Posted by: RockyRoads

It looks like I'll be able to come!!! My fabulous husband has oh-so-generously volunteered to stay home with the kids (ages one and four) so that I can go have some fun and finally meet everyone!

I'll be making my Peppermill reservations soon and am trying to decide if I should arrive late Thursday night or midday on Friday (I'll be driving from the SF Bay Area). Is there a ride planned for Friday morning?

Woo hoo! This will be such a great time!

Kathy

Posted by: firecracker22

Tony -

Keith is an advanced and I am a pathetic skiier. I snowboard, in a mediocre kind of way, but I haven't skiied in 10 years. Keith however grew up in Fairbanks AK and races and does freestyle. So maybe we can pair off into girls and guys runs. Or you and Keith could both try snowboards, just to even things out a bit.

Posted by: dave186

what do yall think of this? its gonna look sweet when I get through with the rattle cans! I also might be working on a special "playing field leveler"

Posted by: Strick

Dave - that thing is EVIL!

Phirechic - I will be at moonrocks (Rimbenders race) on my KTM wearing red/white fox gear, new white/silver fox helmet. My trailer is white, has Dirtrider.net on each of the rear doors, fox head & KTM racing on the front and HUGE RMS stickers on the sides. I will probably be pulling it with an '02 gray Yukon or a 28' Ford Eldorado motorhome. I am in Cheaters MC, so our pits will be close to their's (normally).

Rocky Roads - rides take place on Thursday (for the secret ride) Friday-Saturday & Sunday.

Thumbs, Mimi may be up for skiing one day. She raced in high school and beyond, so needless to say she is one heck of a skiier.

Posted by: gospeedracer

Hey Strick, are we going to try and have a couple of dinner get togethers again this year? I know it gets more difficult to pull off as the numbers grow. The buffet at that Mexican restaurant we went to one of the nights last year was pretty good. I forget how that worked out as far as the bill goes though. Did we all just pitch in a predetermined amount in advance?
Any other places you can think of that could handle a HUGE group? I think we may out grow that other place we went to, Outback?

Posted by: Strick

You tell me how many, how much you want to spend, what kind of cuisine, and I can get it handled. Remember my forte' in insurance is restaurants. I HAVE connections.

Doing the buffet style, like at the two restaurants last year, yields a charge per person. The only caveat is we have to tell them how many, so we are obligated to a minimum. Libations were extra.

Posted by: nikki

Did someone say Mexican buffet??? Oh man... I can't wait until Reno!

Posted by: biglou

Oh man, I bet I ate 5 of those chili rellenos last time. Mexican for sure!

The Mexican Buffet was great!!! Strick and Mimi did a great job organizing the whole food thing.

Posted by: thumbs

Count Julie and I in for any and all gatherings that involve food.

Posted by: VintageDirt

I like food too. I could eat 17 tacos.

Posted by: KiwiBird

I'd walk 5 miles for Mexican. Oh wait, I did

Posted by: thumbs

Posted by: Unkle Moose

Mexican food is good, need more hot peppers this time. Lets see beans, peppers and grease Hey Strick how many Port A Potties to you have to place out on the trails.

Strick let us know in advance how much to donate for the Port A Pottie.

LMAO!! Laughing with you, not at you.

Working on getting our own sub-forum up soon. There will be Port-a-potties again this year and plans are in the works to secure that Mexican place again.
One change this year will be getting the money up front for those who wish to participate in the Mexican buffet.

I've never skied or snowboarded before... that sounds kinda fun. In fact I've never seen more than 2 inches of snow. I might wanna try that out with you sharla. (dont' laugh at me to hard)

It's awesome--so much fun! No one will laugh at you. It's tough for anyone to pick up, so if Tony and Keith try it for the first time too then I will be the one helping you guys out! (that'll be a change  )

Posted by: E-Ticket

Please add two more "regulars" to the 2004 hoo-haa.....!

We'll be driving in from Portland, OR -- hoping to hit early enough on Friday to go for a ride.

RandyB ("E-Ticket) and SusanP ("The Ant") just booked their room at the Peppermill Casino. Motor Lodge, of course, for Fri-Sunday ($49/65/49).

Why the Motor Lodge? 'cause the Ant's BBR 230 fits throught the door quite easily. No more stuck in the elevator for us....!

Susan's been practicing her starts for Whoop Hill and has also been working on twisting that black, twisty-thing on the right handlebar. Should be interesting.

Oh, and Strick? You da' man...!

Thanks! - RandyB

I have not ski'd since 1988 :scream: but the last time I tried a winter sport (ice skating) I sure wish I had on all my moto gear.  One of these days I'd like to try to ski again.

Posted by: altagirl

Craig and I are in for skiing too, if he comes along. I'm definitely a go for the whole trip - and last night he said it was a good possibility for him as long as I didn't mind him getting some skiing in while we're there. So adding skiing might make everything work out better for me!

Posted by: Strick

I sure hope I can re-ride yesterday's (race) course at Moonrocks to commit it to memory. Can you say waterfalls - probably 25. I did not even know some of these ravines existed. This loop will be expert only. Man was that a tough course - 41 miles and NO resting - anywhere!

Posted by: phirechick

Strick,
I noticed on MRANN a bit of complaining from the novice riders, so they are legit. Hope your memory holds up for everyones sake.

Posted by: Strick

Phirechick - no you don't! It is NOT, NOT, NOT a novice friendly course and the ladies were hating life. Just to finish one loop on that course left you with a sense of accomplishment. A trophy was just a bonus. Thank God I got the Holeshot, or my day would have REALLY sucked.

Count us in!
Angela and myself are planning to make it to Reno for Valentine's day.
Angela had a great time a the Ladie's Riding School in June and we are looking forward to meeting some more DRN people.

Posted by: gospeedracer

Hey High Desert XR400, is Angela a member of DRN or KTMtalk? I was at the Ladies riding school in oregon too but was horrible about remembering names and faces, just curious if Angela has a screen name that I might recognize.

Posted by: High Desert XR400

Hi Gospeedracer, Angela doesn't have a screen name at either DRN or KTM talk, she uses mine sometimes.
We both went to down to the riding school and I helped out while she was riding. I did get to do a couple of rides with the guys and had a great time (love those hill climbs). We both hope that Ellen does it again this next year. :thumb:

Not sure what the plans are at this point. Don't know if/when/where I'll be employed so I don't have any definite plans as of yet. If do bring the trialer I'm sure there will be room for a couple of you. Might even help keep the trailer from being blown around too much if you and Retsenior are in there....

Good luck on your future employment.

Well, Since I am a local I have to go!!! I was a newbie last year so I am really looking forward to it this time. Strick, if you need help setting anything up let me know, I would be more than happy to help.
My house is on the way to Moonrocks off of Pyramid Hwy. so I would be more than happy to let people store their bikes in my garage at night.

I remember you two!!   That's great that you are making the Reno Ride, there's a goodly number of Oregonians making the trip this year that were also at the Ladies Rides school.

Hey Galant2nr - that is awfully generous of you to offer up your place to store bikes, I bet you will get some folks to take you up on that.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoaaaa, wait a minute, WAIT a minute!! NO Blender???!!! :scream:

Posted by: Unkle Moose

Holy Crap Batman!!

No blender then why do we even need to go!

Posted by: GETMETOCA

I have to concur with Unkle Cracker on that one.  I think we need to pull a Reno Boycott til we get our beloved Canadian Blender to make an appearance.

Okay, forget the boycott........we'll go to Reno, who's kiddin' who? But, Kokanee's gonna look awful funny out there with an industrial sized egg beater tryin' to whip up a batch of Fuzzy Navels.

Posted by: Kokanee

Oh, Gord just pulling everyones chain! Don't worry the blender will be there!

Posted by: pinball

Don`t worry everyone!I told my mom she can`t mix cookie dough in it!, and besides ,we have two blenders to choose from now.

Posted by: KiwiBird

Are we going to have an official bar now?

Posted by: Unkle Moose

Who's bringing the 55gallon drum's of Rum, Vodka, Tequila & Margarita Mix?

Posted by: bbbom

Pinball dahling!

The hill was too easy this time I'm afraid, but only because I knew you weren't there so what was the point of pretending to be a damsel in distress?

Besides, it was so dusty, Karl would have run over me if I didn't make it!!!

Posted by: pinball

Wouldn`t that give a new meaning to the term "Anti-climax"

Posted by: bbbom

:scream:

I think it would be more of an "Anti-climbax"!

Posted by: dirtjunkie

thank God the blender is back on...I don't even drink and I was ready to scrap the ride.

Posted by: pinball

I didn`t drink either until I went to Reno last year ,where bbbom drove me to it!!

Hi again everyone, my pc has been down since my last post, wicked virus. My evil twin brother, Cornfed, will be getting his hip replaced and I might have to stick around here, even in February. I'm still going to try like heck to get down there though. Good times coming up in Jawbone, hope to see some of you there! Cheers

Posted by: Strick

O.K. Adam, I am a little lost with that post, but GET WELL Quickly to the Evil Twin - I hope to see you here. The ladies need a new tour guide. (_|_)

Posted by: endoquest

Hi Strick, I meant that I will probably be stuck here in Oregon taking care of business and brother. He really IS having his hip replaced (we're 39 years old). If it's at all possible, however, I will be there with 525 and GasGas. Cheers all.

Posted by: Strick

Adam - Lots of new watefall canyons to introduce you to! I hope to see you in Feb.

Posted by: E-Ticket

Adam, best of luck to your brother. And if you can - hope to see you in Reno. Cheers. - RandyB

Posted by: endoquest

THX E-ticket, making tentative plans as we speak. It seems to be that the Peppermill isn't as full as everyone thinks. Hmmmm. If I can buzz down there in my Tacoma and freeload my bike somewhere overnights, I just might pull it off, Hmmmmm. We'll see! Cheers

Posted by: Strick

Adam - bike storage is NO problem!

Posted by: endoquest

Thx again Strick, I'm off to Jawbone for a week or so, directions at this post in Organized Rides.
WARNING: Jawbone Canyon Ride
Cheers, endo

Posted by: gnarlykaw

OK, I skipped way ahead here. give me the details. can I ship my bike? where, when , all that stuff.

Posted by: Strick

Big Lou has started a thread in this sub forum which deals with bike transport from Kansas City. Otherwise - I have 2 extra bikes here in Reno. '98 Xr200 (not stock) and a '02 WR426(very modified) that riders that come without bikes can use.
