I dont race track I just trail ride an climb hills just wanted to see hills other people have climbed that were bad or hard to climb.

Have you tried the big hill at bear creek? I made it about 1/4 of the way, I can't see how anybody could make it on a stock bike. I hear about 4 riders have made it to the top in last 20 years.

Used too have this hill out at Hollister Hills called "The Mile CLimb" Very steep w/big whooops and went forever I made it a few times on a 89yz250.. Now the hill is closed for some reason

Just about anyone who has ever taking a pic of a hill will tell you the same thing. The size and grade of the hill almost never comes through. One of the best pics I have is a 35mm pic of a coal hill. The hill is framed well in the print, but I still have to point out to everyone who looks at it that there is a guy on a dirt bike about 3/4 of the way up the hill. They then look closer and go say, Oh My God, thats a big hill!
Some other big hills I have ridden are the peak in McAdoo, The Turttle in Paragon is long, rocky, and snakes over 2000 ft in vertical.
Here are some digital pics that turned out ok of a particulary nasty little rock hill in Paragon. copy and paste urls

The trees in the picture give some referance to vertical and to the size of the rocks. I had trouble going DOWN that one, some day maybe Ill try going up it, it was raining this day and all that orange clay and the rocks were snotty wet .

Did someone say hills?

Hill Climb Pics

Posted by: YZThumper

Here is a link to a web page where I uploaded a few hill climb videos. I have quite a few good hill climb videos, unfortunately my ISP only gives me 10Mb of free web space. Like any other picture or video, they just don't do the steepness or length of the hill any justice

I tried a hill once...realized why I like riding OPB (Other People's Bikes)...

(I've never even seen the huge, Kiwi style hills...not sure I want to)

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

I did do better than Uwe...

Posted by: Camstyn

I was looking for that pic a while ago, lol.. Never seen a man roost himself in the face before!

Posted by: LoriKTM

Hey YZThumper-- is that slate wall video taken at Tower City?   We rode as guests there last year, and saw that wall.  Looked more appropriate for a trials bike!

Posted by: jboomer

Poor Uwe! That looks expensive!

gospeedracer - Where were those pictures taken? Those are some ultra gnarly hills! (dscn0168)

Click :my pictures: below for a few of mine

Posted by: gospeedracer

All but one of those pictures are at Jawbone canyon in the mohave desert.

Posted by: KiwiBird

Dead - those are my pics, 168 and many others there are from Jawbone Canyon in So Cal.

We have a ride there over the week of Thanksgiving that we call Spanksgiving - you are welcome to attend if you would like to experience the pucker factor acheived by one coming down the hill after an unsuccessful attempt.

i have a a few good ones, i cant post them tho, can i email them to someone so they can post them here?

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Send them to Gomer@dirtrider.net and I'll get them where you can post a link to them.

Posted by: YZThumper

Lori,

Yup, that's the big slate wall at Tower City. It's 100 times more intimidating in person, especially considering it's a pure piece of slick slate. Not making that hill is not an option, LOL !!!

Posted by: bbbom

I don't have a pic of the firecracker's infamous LPO Rock Shelf launch scanned - YET!!!

But here's a typical Northern Idaho hill that I'm coming down:

Posted by: bbbom

Here's a shot of a good friend and her ghost riding on a particularly snarly s curve hill (the bike and her had both been going UP the hill just prior to Karl snapping the shot):

Posted by: gospeedracer

:scream: holy............toledo...........no way, nuh uh....

*in regards to bbbom's first pic

Posted by: Y2Z

gomer i sent them to you, check your email, thanks again

Posted by: ktmboy

If anyone wants to witness some of the best hillclimbers in SoCal in action then the Spanksgiving ride is the ticket. Kiwi and his friends are willing to go wear mountain goats fear to tread! There are several 'easier' hills around for the squeemish guys like me too!

Posted by: Y2Z

hey guys, got those pics thanks to gomer! i think this hill really is the "mile climb"!

Posted by: Y2Z

and another, this one has a guy trying it, dont know if he made it or not though... looks like it.

http://20-20racing.com/Gomer/DanH/big%20hill.jpg

thanks gomer!

Posted by: High Lord Gomer

Don't worry...you'll never get a picture of *me* doing that! Those things are huge *and* steep!

Posted by: michigan

I was getting my butt kicked by a big hill yesterday at Wellsville. When I got my bike down after attempt #2, somone pointed out a sign nailed to a tree. The hill had a name. It was called "The chainsaw massacre".

And 2nd gear pinned on a kx500 just wasn't enough!

The magic gear on a 500cc 2-Stroke is 3rd !! 2nd gear generates too much wheel spin. If you can get a big bore 2 smoker in 3rd gear, you can climb just about anything !!

All I can say is Daaaang! I have currently have massive shrinkage after viewing these shots!

Posted by: PlumbBob

Kiwi,

Nice Jawbone pics! Just like being there .... Are you coming out the first weekend?

I'm counting the days till the 21st. Too much rain here in Oregon. Endoquest is going to caravan down with Belle and I on Friday.

Bonehead and Cynthia are coming to Rapids' house Friday and all are heading to Jawbone on Saturday. No Jared this year. Too bad.

The firewood truck should follow them in on Saturday night.

See ya there,

Bob 'n Belle

That's the kind of hill (rock littered) that gets me shakin' like jello. There was a similar hill at one of the TWMC enduros, only less well traveled and probably a little less less solid. I won't tell you how I handled that one .... :scream:

Posted by: E-Ticket

Nice shot, BBoom...! That ought to make some sphincters pucker...! :scream:

<tee-hee>

It all goes to prove it's just what you're used to. One persons' "have-to'do-this-every-ride-to-get-to-"x" is another person's "no-EFFIN-WAY!!!!"

Cheers! - ET

Cool! I really like hearing the bikes rather than music when watching riding clips. That slate wall must have been steep, he was grabbing several gears on the way up to it.

Posted by: YZThumper

Got a new ISP that gives me plenty more storage space. I've got a few more videos out there for everyone to check out !!!
