Northwest Spodefest

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: bbbom

Okay, after the Sunday afternoon parking lot discussion at Moonrocks I have an idea for a Northwest Spodefest at Lake Gillette the weekend of June 29th.

Lake Gillette is about 2.5 hours from Spokane, and 25 miles from Colville Washington. They have campgrounds galore, two nice lakes, cabins from $45 - $65 per night on the lake, showers, small restaurant and a variety of trails from beginner to expert in the Colville National Forest. There are also hotels & motels in Colville 25 miles away. Great riding, followed up with a jaunt in the lake on jetskis, boats, whatever. The resort said they have some cabins and plenty of campground open for June 29th weekend. I have a few pics in my CR500 Album of the Gillette area.

The trails include the infamous and technical Batey Bould system, and the less difficult Little Pond Oreille system. Links to the NMA maps are:
http://www.nmaoffroad.org/orvguide/mapne2.htm

Both 23 and 24 are accesible from Gillette

DNR info of Batey Bould (thanks to Josef):

DNR info on Little Pond Oreille (little pond o'ray):

What's everyone think?

Oh, Gawd, don't get me started again!! I looked it up on the computer last night, and said, "Dave, guess how long it takes to get from here to Spokane!" 38 hours of driving! 4 days. Probably won't have the time to drive it this year. If I fly out, does anyone have a bike I can borrow...?!

Posted by: CNM

After seeing the Reno pics, I'm dying to make it to one of these. I may have to do the fly in thing as well. I guess I better check Delta and see how much air fare is. Anyone got a loaner bike? Alabama to Washington...shouldn't cost too much

Lets see, 01CR80E, 90DS80, 98KLX300 and of course the beautiful pink 94CR500 for a quick spin. If none of those fit your needs, I'll check with the rest of the family & see what they have lying around.

Lori, From the variety of bikes you rode this past weekend, I'm sure we can accomodate your needs!! Better bring Dave this time, he & Karl can compare trail blazing techniques!!

CNM, check with Southwest Airlines, I've flown them from Spokane to Nashville for $99 each way!

I can see my vacation time dwindling very low before the end of the year.....

I'll check with the wife about the trip - sounds like a blast.

For those that are considering flying in - look into shipping your bike on a freight carrier. One of the guys from ThumperTalk shipped his bike from Boston to Denver for the Moab trip in October. One of the Denver guys hauled the bike from Denver to Moab & back. I think it was $200-$300 for shipping.

Check out the Moab Forum on TT for freight companies.

Well, of course I'll be there! I can entertain you all again with my fine riding techiniques. I can vouch for the area--I've been there twice and loved it. It's beautiful and challenging but not frustratingly so. There's trails for all types.

It'll be a while until the snow melts though. Can't wait to get you guys up into OUR neck of the woods!

Posted by: bbbom

CNM, Spokane would be the nearest airport & we could pick you up there. Seattle is an option since Firecracker and others are there, it's about a 4 hour drive Seattle to Spokane.

For anyone interested in shipping their bikes, do a DRN Search on shipping - several people have used http://www.forwardair.com/ but the nearest depot for them is Seattle. There's other ideas posted in various threads for shipping.

Would I need to fly into Spokane or Seattle? So far I've found these rates from Birmingham to Spokane:

Delta - 1266.00 round trip
Southwest - 213.00 one way
Northwest - 336.50 round trip

If I can get the vacation day, this is a possible, yeah!!!!

Posted by: ButtonFly

Count me in. Might have to get around to actually MEETING bbbom, rather than just planning rides I would imagine there is motorhome access up there?

Posted by: bbbom

Yep, motorhome, camp trailer & tent areas plus some cabin rentals. If you want a hotel Colville is 25 miles away.

Kids are also welcome - all three of mine & Karl's will be there on two wheels!

Well duh! What else would you want to use if for!!

I would love to get in on this. LoriKTM, how did you like the RM125? Hopefully by then I will have another bike and I would like to keep the RM, so it's a possibility I would have it with me as a spare for anyone that wants to ride it.

Seattle is probly the less expensive place to fly into.
i'll plan on being there unless something big happens(big job offer out of state?)
if someone wants to fly into Seattle, i'll probly have space in my toyota for one.

Posted by: Strick

Hey bbbom,

Is there a Hyatt or Hilton nearby? :D

You know what the worst thing is? I don't need a place to store my bike . You've got to admit it was pretty cool all of us sitting around my house on Saturday morning watching 'Time to Ride'.!

Stop it! Stop taunting me! All these voices in my head! "Ship the bikes", "Fly to Spokane!", "Borrow a bike!" I can't stand it!!

$300 for shipping isn't too bad. I wonder if two bikes can share a bigger crate...

GSR, I think someone forgot to put in a bottom end on that RM, but otherwise it was fine! Once I adjusted to the MX powerband, we did ok. It's a good backup bike, but if you're going to do any serious trail riding, there are better options (for your next bike).

Bring Dave with? I don't think I could keep him at home. However, it IS right in the middle of our racing season out here, so I'll have to see what our club has planned. Hmm.

NO KIDDING! Tell me about it! I have had thoughts of KTM running through my head.... but there is no dealership near me! Not sure what I want.... um... well, yes I do... one of each! :D

GSR - KTM 200mxc would be perfect for you! Don't believe me, ask Angry Jim, and LoriKTM.

Yeah, thanks to Kiwi & AJ now Karl wants a CR500AF. Guess that would mean he wouldn't have to replace the rim & handlebars on the 90CR500 - they don't look so good after Reno!!! Hmmmm might have to make it two of em though so we can match even better!!

Sorry Strick, closest Hilton or Hyatt would be in Spokane but Colville has a Benny's Colville Inn which I am sure is comparable!! http://www.colvilleinn.com/index.html

Actually, after looking at their site, they might just be!!!

How big is Lake Gillette? Big enough to ski in? Can fourwheelers come? It would be much easier to get my family to come if that is the case...

Posted by: bbbom

Yes, Lake Gillette is big enough to ski in, barely but it connects to Lake Thomas which is larger. Yosef & his wife towed the kids all around last summer in innertubes & they had a blast.

I will have to check on the 4 wheelers. I know there are miles of logging roads they can access but most of the "trails" are singletrack dirtbike trails.

Hey all, I'd like to race the Funky Chicken race that weekend in Oregon so would plug for either the weekend after or before the 29th June so I can do both. Maybe others could do that too?

Nix on June 25th! That's my club's Silver anniversary poker run that I must work.

June 29th weekend works if you all promise to sing Happy Birthday for my daughter's fifth. Bet she'll get on the JR that day too!

Kiwi, what's a funky chicken???

Of course, I'll have to sneak away from my visit with the in-laws...

Wow, a place I could ride the Ktm half day then pull up to my Waveblaster and take a few laps in the lake to cool off. Now this sounds like a plan! My trusty Lab Buster would enjoy a little camping too(the snacks).
I'll check the dates with boss man at work.

Mace - Funky Chicken is a cross country race, Hare Scramble or Hare and Hounds - I get confused by the difference. It's put on my friend Endoquest.

Posted by: WoodsRider

Hey I could maybe swing this into a trip home to visit the parents (Seattle). Shipping a bike wouldn't get "spousal approvel" though. Anyone have anything I could possible borrow?

Posted by: bbbom

The Funky Chicken is actually a National Hare Scramble near Elkton, Oregon. It is supposed to be a pretty neat place. I forgot it was June 30 - July 1.

So, June 29th is bad, June 23rd is bad, how about the weekend of June 15th Father's Day weekend or July 14th?

July 6 & 7 will probably be quite crowded because of 4th of July so I don't recommend it.

As for loaner bikes, I'm sure we can round up a few of em.

Firecracker will be doing her intrepid reporter imitation and taking pictures. Y'all feel like being featured in a magazine? It'll be a ride report type article so all you have to do is think of some eloquent descriptions of the riding. And make sure I get some good pictures!

1 vote for July 14. Month of June bad for me.

Posted by: MACE

(Definitly, if someone is reallycoming from out of state, give their date request priority....)

FYI, here's a few NMA events for June and July...

06/17/01 (PRP) Fathers Day Poker Run / Yakima Valley Dust Dodgers / Little Naches

06/24/01 (PRP) 25th Annual Super Dirt Poker Run / Cascade Family MC / Capitol Forest - Middle

07/04/01 Independence Day (Wednesday)

07/07/01 (EP) River City Night Enduro / River City MC / Capitol

07/15/01 (PRP) NMA Benefit Poker Run / Yakima Valley Dust Dodgers / Little Naches

--------------------------------------------
I am planning on riding all these except for one of the two events at Naches. I'd love to go to Spodefest on either 6/15 or 7/14.

I've noticed that the world stopped revolving around me about the time I turned 18, so you just take my needs FWIW.

Mace where did you get the NMA dates?
I can't find any books on the west side.

Posted by: SL99

That would be a great place! The country is beautiful up there! If we keep our bikes then we'll definatley try to be there! We'll bring our ski too. We even have a baby sitter because my grandparents live in Colville.
Although, could I still hang on a YZ 125?

Posted by: firecracker22

Some trails get pretty tight--first gear kind of stuff. Granite Peak would be good though, and some of the others are ok. Granite Peak is my favorite though--the technical stuff is ok for a while, but I want to go FAST sometimes too. I was in 3-4-5 gears most of the way up that trail and it was a BLAST! Standing up, picking your line through roots, ruts, rocks and other obstacles, leaning way sideways in the corners . . . I love that trail. It gets slow for a while but the 2nd half of the loop (the whole thing is about 12-15 miles, I think) is great too. Wonderful scenery.

The Radar Dome trail has kicked my butt from one side of the mountain to the other. I wouldn't want to try to hang onto a 125 on that but I'm not the world's greatest rider either. There's plenty to like though, and we have maps to find new places. We'll ride the "easy" ones so we can stretch our legs and our gearboxes!

Posted by: little_thumper

Can us Idaho guys come? can we huh can we???
I promise we will be good

Posted by: bbbom

All right, but no sleeping on your bikes!!!

Just a thought about the dates - mid June will be the best riding weather, lake may be a little cool dry suit temps depending upon your cold tolerance.

Mid July could be pretty dry & dusty. We had a very low snow accumulation this year and from all indications spring won't be making up for the lack of snow but, the lake would be a little warmer.

bwaahaaahaa, I remember Little_thumper up at lake Cleveland in my wet suit freezing his butt off, I think he was in the water for 10 seconds before he turned blue. No way was I getting in there.

btw Little_T, by my calculations it is about a 11 to 12 hour drive from here, depending on how fast you drive.

I have friends in low places. The books will be available at the dealers who advertise in the book about the end of the month. Email off list if you need a date for a specific event and I'll get it for you.

The NMA website has the events for the next two months listed. The whole list gets on the website May 1st.

Wow, this spodefest stuff sure takes on a life of its own. I'd love to go. I lived up there for 3 years, and my friends there are always wanting us to come back and visit, so it would be perfect for me (us). This time I'm 99% sure I could make it, since I boged out on the last one. And I'm open to most any date at this point. And GSR, if you were referring to me for the extra Gas Gas, I just sold it a couple of days ago. BUT, I usually have two bikes, and I change them faster than, well, you know the cliche', so there is a good chance I'll have a second bike by then. I'm kinda aiming for a WR250, but we'll see. Its possible I could borrow one anyway.

Amen about the duking GSR. You have dirtygirly hooked. All she does now is complain about having an 4 inch inseam... BTW how reliable would you say your RM is? Dirty wants mo power... She was thinking about working towards a newer 125, and dropping the forks a bit, and perhaps a lot of sag or a lowering link... any ideas?

Posted by: firecracker22

On the 125 subject, the YZs are a little smoother and have more bottom end, but the Hondas are lighter. Flywheel weights are available for both as are lowering links. Sliding the forks up, setting the sag on the shock and lighter oil in both are easy ways of lowering but they change the steering geometry of the bike. Shaving the seat foam can make a lot of difference (since the seats are hard as a rock anyway) and sending the suspension off to have it done right is worth the $. I may do that on my future KDX.

Dirtygirly needs a new ride! She can certainly see what she thinks of my Kawi when I get it. She's going to tear it up.

Posted by: HONDA65

What, are you saying my Gas Gas wasn't good enough for you, hmmm? Fine, be that way, see if I care. Maybe I'll just buy it back, and then not let anyone ride it. What do ya think about that, huh? Yea, I'll show ya!!

Hmm, wait a minute....

HONDA, put the bottle of glue DOWN!

Besides, its stuck to my mustache.

Posted by: Dirtygirly

Well I get to go in next week sometime to sign some confidentiality papers before I start working on Biomedex’s webpage. Then I can finally start making some money to put toward a newer bike

It looks like summer school plans are in store for me again this year. I’m not sure yet if I will be taking classes here at Gonzaga or somewhere on the other side of the mountains like the UW or BCC. Depending on which side of the state I am on will determine if I have transportation for my bike or not and of course theschool/class factor. But I sure don’t want to miss out on a homefry spodefest!

Posted by: bbbom

Looks like Father's Day weekend is the best for getting reservations for cabins, campgrounds and hotels. The Resort is filling up July and the week before Father's Day but June 15 - 17th is still pretty open.

So June 15 to 17 is the date!!! (Unless anyone strongly objects - Fremontguy, come on, you can schedule this one can't ya?)

Lake should be good for swimming, dependant upon what Spring looks like. Lakes in this area are never considered warm. Snow will be gone mid April and the ground in mid June is great riding.

The resort/store has showers and restrooms that you can pay to use even if you don't stay in their campground or cabins. So, you can camp out or rent a cabin or rent a hotel in Colville or Kettle Falls - about 25 miles away from the riding area.

Camping options are:

Beaver Lodge Resort & Campground
2430 Highway 20 COLVILLE WA 99114-9011 (509) 684-5657 Has campground spaces & cabins to rent not sure what the cost of the campground spaces are but cabins are from $45 - $65 per night. Need reservations for this one.

USFS Campground -
http://www.llbean.com/parksearch/parks/html/15278gd.htm
or http://www.fs.fed.us/recreation/rec..._colville.shtml

No reservations for USFS Campgrounds at Gillette according to the Ranger, first come first serve. I'll scan the map ASAP.

Only problem with these are you have to push your bike from camp to the road - I think I pushed the CR500 about 1/2 mile both ways last time. Not bad for a warm up butttt that return push !!

There are several other remote/primitive spots that I like This is what we usually do - we know a couple secluded spots next to the creek, not too far from the outhouse but right on the trailhead.

Hotels: Never stayed in one but Benny's sounds nice.

Ah HUH! So THIS is what all the scuttle is about! This could have been the reprise of the camera... but it's too close to the American Thunderbike rally in Breckenridge this year. CSL volunteered to lead an organized ride for the rally so I gotta go. (I just hope they don't pummel us for riding Italian bikes! 'Prolly need some Buell stickers for the Duc.)

Posted by: dual-sporter

i'll plan on being there...maybe bring a few friends. i like to travel cheap & camp out usually, but a shower or hot tub is nice in the evening when riding. things should be situated better for me by then for sure... (i will have my truck again this weekend.. new hi-po cam too... woohoo!) bad timing & crap happening stopped me from going to reno...
an agreed group hang out spot is probly a good idea.... dinner at a specific spot? a daytime location?

for our MX riding cohorts that may want to come, is there a track in any proximity?

[This message has been edited by dual-sporter (edited 03-01-2001).]

Posted by: firecracker22

Track? Not really. This is mostly pure trail riding. There are places where you can open it up and have fun but a lot of it's tight and technical too. It's a few minutes into Colville to have dinner--I think a group bonfire/camping potluck kind of thing would be fun. I plan on camping anyway, rather than spending $ on a hotel.

Posted by: bbbom

Closest track would be Spokane Airway Heights. I've heard of a couple private ones in Colville but none I know of for sure.

The campgrounds are first come first serve so we should try to get a count of how many people plan to camp and when they think they'll arrive. If we are up there by Friday morning we should be able to take over enough spots in a single campground for everyone to be together.

People interested in the cabins should get a res as soon as possible, they go fast. Probably same with Colville hotels.

The showers are at the Beaver Lodge Resort & Store. They have a small restaurant & 7 cabins there. You pay a buck or two & they let you in the showers - one men's, & one women's.

As for meals, we usually cook over the campfire. We bring some wood (depends upon how much room we have in the truck) and there are places to go get some wood. We will bring a chainsaw and splitting maul for additional wood gathering.

So, speak up if you know you are most likely going to make it, where you plan on staying and when you should arrive & I'll start a list.

Hmm, no coed showers? That's it, I'm not coming.

Posted by: bbbom

Hey now, I did NOT say anything about who goes into which shower but, they do have signs on em up there. Personally, signs have never controlled many of my activities, police force yes but not signs!!

Posted by: ButtonFly

Enough space anywhere for a motorhome? If I come by myself (no fourwheelers or relatives) then I am coming, but if my family comes they will all be quading and bringing a large motorhome... any word?

Posted by: WoodsRider

Okay, here's my dilemma. Right now our house in Illinois is up for sale, since my employer has relocated to Upstate NY. Mrs. Woods is a school teacher in IL and isn't finished until June 8th. So, if everything goes as planned we could possibly be in the middle of moving to NY that weekend. Nothing ever goes as planned though.

I won't be able to make any firm commitments until the middle of May. But if I can get out there, I'd fly into Seattle the night of the 14th. Head over Friday and return to Seattle Sunday afternoon. If others are coming from the Seattle area, perhaps we can discuss some transportation options.

Posted by: firecracker22

Transportation options--definitely. I will be heading over Friday, maybe mid-day, don't know yet. I would gladly carpool but: I have a Toyota regular cab shortbed. Bikes will fit fine, just have to drop the tailgate and put all the gear in between them. Cab can get crowded with two people so carry-on luggage would be limited. The offer is open though. I work very near Sea-Tac so I could pick you up whenever the plane lands. I don't know who else from this side of the mountains is in for sure yet.

BBBOM- I'll try and talk my dad into it, it shouldn't too hard considering Colville is only an hour away and he'd probably like to go riding down there. I'll try and talk him into it. Put us on the maybe list. What are the campground prices, for a tent?

i'm definitely there, camping. probly showing up friday, leaving sunday morning/afternoon.

if my younger brother can get a bike by then or of i can swing a spare by then or borrow one(very likely) he'll go, plus 2-3 other riding buds that might go. all of which would camp out most likely.

i have a toyota (std cab & bed), plus a three rail trailer, getting bikes there from seattle is not a problem, i can haul four easily & have room in the bed for gear... (but that's the max capacity of the truck)

Posted by: MrLuckey

Put me down for a definite maybe! Can't make any definite plans yet but It sounds like too much fun to pass up.

I am 99% sure I will be there with lovely and talented wife and two wonderful daughters (4 & 6).

We need to know if there is camping space for our toybox style travel trailer at your normal camping spot. If we can't trailer camp with the group, we may cabin. The cost of cabin vs. gas for "the rig" is probably close to a push

I heard mama 'n papa talkin'
I heard papa tell mama, "you let that boy MOTO,

The campgrounds have pretty big spots - my F250 with 19' Camp Trailer fits in easily. Large motorhomes & trailers are up there regularly so shouldn't be any problems getting you guys spots.

As for 4wheelers, the trails are mainly singletrack but there are several miles of logging roads. We took my John Deer Gator loaded with kids on a trip to one of the lookout towers one year.

I have updated the list on page 3. Let me know if I need to change it.

Let me say hello to everyone. I am new here at DRN and also new to off road riding. I have spent all of my riding days on the street and decided this last year to go off road. I ride a XR600 with 60 over mod and the girlfriend rides an XR400 both 98's. Though the bike can go fast I would have to say I am a SPODE. Which means I can't wait to come home to the Northwest Spodefest.

Information:
Attending - Myself, Girlfriend, 3 children
two 5yrs old, one 12yrs old.
Arriving - Friday the 15th
Departing - Monday the 18th
We will be camping in a tent and prefer to camp with the group.

If all goes well I will be getting a trailer prior to the trip. If this happens I may be able to help transport someones bike if needed.

Looking forward to meeting all of you.

Not yet but hope to have them going soon.

I scanned the threads,to no avail(maybe I'm blind), but do the cabins have "amenities". I need to know for the wife and daughter. I can rough it, but not them. In fact they may just stay down in Spokane with friends. But either way, unless something unforseen happens, I'll be there.

Posted by: SpeedyManiac

BBBOM, I may not be able to come, as my brother is graduating on june 15. If we do come, we would just come down for Saturday, leaving early in the morning to meet up with you guys then head home after.

Posted by: bbbom

Hope you can join us Speedymaniac.

Honda65, the $45/night cabins are near the community shower/bathrooms and include access to them. The one cabin for $65/night has it's own shower & bathrooms. All the cabins have two double beds, dining table & chairs, utensils and cookware with a two burner hotplate & microwave.

Beaver Lodge (same place) has a campground with 41 spots at $16 per night that we can reserve. Some have full electric & sewer hookups others don't and you can use the public shower & bathrooms plus the outhouse at the campground. If we let them know how many and how large any of the bigger setups are we can reserve the spaces.

The National Forest Service campground is, I believe $10 per night without hookups but they do have a sewer dump nearby. Only first come first serve for the NFS spots and you have to push the bike in & out to the trailhead (enforced by the camphosts)(you aren't legally supposed to ride on the road either but we have never been bothered by the local law enforcement - they are very nice there).

There was supposed to be another NFS campground built at one of the trailheads but, I haven't made it up there since last year. We will make a reconnaissance mission in a couple weeks to check it out - ohhhh the sacrifice!!!

BBBOM- we could join you guys for a reconnasance mission maybe. :comfused: When would you go?

Posted by: HONDA65

Bbbom, thanks for the info. I think we'd try to get a cabin. I might be bringing a trailer, but not a camp type. (as my wife screams in depair)It's an 18' race trailer. Big enough to sleep in, but the females of the pack "ain't" gonna go thar!! Should we make reservations now??

Oh, by the way, I will try to have an extra bike by then, so let me know who is in need of some wheels.

And no GSR, I didn't buy back my Gas Gas. But that darn bottle is still stuck to my mustache. SNIIFFFF!!! Ahaaaaaaaaaaa....

THUD!!

For the cabins I'd make reservations as soon as possible, they only have 7 cabins. As for the campsite, I want to make a drive up there in the next few weeks to see if it is the one I am thinking of before we make the reservations.

Speedymaniac, it depends upon the weather. Right now we are thinking possibly the weekend of April 7th. I'll let you know a week or two ahead of time.

As far as spare bikes, I may still have my KLX300 & my son's DS80 and MR50 (all for sale except the 50). We may also be able to borrow some from the rest of the family or friends. Guess we need a list of who will need bikes too.

Hey Bbbom,
Is this gonna be a go and if so, what dates did you all finally settle on??

I'm going to be on the road up to Washington (my home state)for vacation on the 15th of June. Need to know whether or not to haul the scoot

Thanks.

Posted by: bbbom

Yep, it's a go!! June 15 to 17th (or longer) we'll be there. We are going to try to get up there to check out the campground for reservations in a couple weeks. I'll report back the reservation numbers then.

If you want to reserve a spot now, the Beaver Lodge Campground is where we will be staying so far, there's 41 spots there so should be enough.

BBBOM: Could you remind me a little sooner for when you're going up to check out the trails. I just got my bike together, and can't wait to hit the trails. I can't make it for June 15-17, the entire weekend will be tied up with grad stuff and father's day. I think the weekend of April 28 would work best for checking out the trails.

Posted by: bbbom

Yep, we'll try to give you as much notice as we can.

Posted by: SpeedyManiac

Thanks.

This sounds like a great event. I've never ridden in the Spokane area, even though it is only 6 hours away form my home, Boise. Do you know if WA has a reciprocal agreement with ID for off road vehicle registration? If not what are the registration costs?

I live in Washington and the cost for me was $6.50. I am not sure if it is the same for out of staters. I live near the ID boarder and I am pretty sure that the WA license is OK to use in ID. I have never been hassled about it. Unless there are some real pain in the rear rangers in the Colville area I don't think you would have much trouble as long as you have the correct equipment, spark arrestor, etc. This spring/summer is going to be a dry one so offroad/ATV users are probably going to be checked for proper equip. to made sure we aren't the cause of any fires. I wouldn't be surprised if there will be a ban on open fires, (campfires) even in early to mid June.

Posted by: bbbom

What Mike said is true and the Rangers around Colville have always been pretty easy on us, they do let us ride on the shoulder of the highway without hassle so shouldn't be a problem.

To be completely legal you should get a Washington State Temporary Off Road Permit for $8.00 from one of the DOL sites in the state. I'll get a copy of the form and the rest of the info on prepurchasing them. Will update as soon as possible. But, in my two years of riding up there, I have never even talked to a ranger and my tags aren't real visible.

SpeedyManiac, not sure if the snow will ever leave so the recon mission is still on hold!!

Count me out, saving my vacation days for washougal amatuer days, even though I haven't been to colville in ages i heard they was trying to close that area.

BBBOM, it's been snowing off and on up here for the last week, but I've still been able to go riding. You should try coming up here, the sand area is a blast right now.

Hey, off topic but at least this brings us bck to the top....

Anyone live near Clarkston? There's an MR2 I'm interested in at Clarkston Auto Sales. Anyone want to test drive a little go cart and let me know how it looks?

Lake Gillette update. They still have snow in the mountains and some in the parking lot!!!

The weekend of June 15th is still a go and they have campsites available for up to about 200 people so everyone should be fine. No hook up sites are $10 per night and hookup sites are $16 per night. The trails are accessible directly from the campsites so no pushing bikes through camp required! The fees include access to the beach and dock fishing and showers which are located at the store. Cabins are also available - $45 - $65 per night - will have to haul your bike from the cabin location to the trailhead - about 1 mile or take your chances riding down the highway which is done frequently.

One nights fee is required for advance reservations and it is refundable up to 2 days prior to checkin. You can make your reservations by calling:

Beaver Lodge Resort & Campground
2430 Highway 20 COLVILLE WA 99114-9011 (509) 684-5657

Tell them you want to be in the lower campground and you are part of the Father's Day group get together!

If you are looking for a hotel/motel see info check my post on page 4 of this thread.

According to the Ranger Station, as long as your bike is registered in the same home state as your vehicle you are okay. Temporary permits are $8.00 and available at the Dept of Licensing here. I will post the permit as soon as I can. If anyone wants one sent to them, email me.

From the recent weather, should be great riding by June 15th.
