Looks like a great site for all kinds of good dirtbike riding info. Am getting back into dirtriding after a long layoff. Looking for folks who would like to be partners in those long Hare Scrambles races. Ride a 03 KX250, and want to start racing in the Vet 40 class. Looking for a good vintage class bike also to start racing it also. Am living in Wichita, KS and am a member of the local Jeeps Motorcycle club here. Looking to meet and ride with folks wherever, and find out about new areas to ride/race. Thanks

Hey everybody! EXCELLENT site--very informative.
I'm from the DFW area and always looking for peeps to ride with. I ride street too, but am here to focus on my dirt riding. (duh) I am thinking about getting back in to X-Country again, and need to know how the CRF250 would do compared to a 250 motocrosser??
Thanks,

I have been riding dirt bikes off and on since the mid seventies. Raced local motocross from 1979 to 1990 until my knees couldn't take it anymore . At the moment all I do is trail ride with an occasional trip to a motocross track just for old time sake. I like the layout of the site and I look forward to many posts. :thumb:

Not only am I new to this forum, but I am a newbie to dirt bikes in general. Yesterday was my first day ever on a bike.

I'm 20, live in Surrey BC Canada, and yesterday I went to Herrling Island with my step-dad and he taught me to ride. Seeing as he has been riding for many many years, he did not have some small girl bike for me to ride, so I started out on a CR250. I rode this for the first day and then the next day I got to try out someone elses 125. hehe.. I was thouroughly surprised at the difference.

The main reason I joined this forum is to try to find other people who live somewhat near me and may be interested in riding with a girl who is attempting to learn.

Hi all New to this forum but not new to bikes. Own a '03 R1200CL BMW for the road, and soon to be owner of '04 KTM 525 EXC. Thought seriously bout a CRF450 or WR450, but seems I'd pay as much or more by the time they were set up comparable to the EXC. 1 test drive sold me, as it was the closest thing to my '84 CR 500 for speed that i've been on since. But the EXC actually handles well ('84 CR was a monster for speed, but almost impossible to maneuver) and feels sooo much lighter. Also getting a CRF 150 for my wife's son. Like a $25,000 investment for bikes, trailer, gear, add-ons... so he BETTER like the sport as much as I do. Will be on mostly motocross tracks here, until we find some trails or private land to ride on as well. The boy is interested in motocross racing, while i'm debating on giving the "senior" class enduro a spin. (Hardly think I'm a threat to the riders, but be nice to finish a race or 2 to show that the old yanks can at least compete ;-).)
Rode mostly Honda XR/CR 500s before and a few Yamaha ITs. Raced enduro back in the 70's-80's. Trail riding and all the rest when time and $ permits. Originally from Wisconsin Dells, WI and recently moved to Adelaide Australia. The countryside is perfect for year round riding here so the bug has bit me again. (Seasons are way too short in WI!) Hope to pick all ur brains on the latest tricks/tips for setting up the EXC. Laters, dark

And I'm a Motoholic. I've been dry for about 4 months now because of the cold and ice.

I'm as old as dirt and have been riding for nearly as long as my memory allows (2 days I think). I'm a former Yamaha Factory Technical Rep for the Motorsports Dept. (mcy, smb, ATV, PWC, Jet Boat, Power Equipment) and Snowmobile R&D Tech. I currently work for Hot Cams, Pivot Works, and Hot Rods doing all their R&D work.

I have my own for-fun web site, www.ticeman.com, that is mostly about my fun stuff. And without having fun, what life could be fullfilled?!

Hi Tony,

Glad to see you finally found the clubhouse. :thumb:

*** Just a side note, Tony is such a twisted dude that he wedged a YZF426 engine into a YSR50 chassis and made it look like it came from the Yamaha factory.

You have to check out the pics on his website, they are too cool and show the remarkable level of craftsmanship that went into this project.

From Mike & Lori Nylan (what a terrible loss, my most heart felt condolences go out to him and their families, you guys did good by them too, IMO) to some of the Professor's writings. Incredible stuff. Why didn't you tell me earlier?!!!

I posted on some other stuff this morning since I'm home today (sleep deprivation is BAD!!!! ). Lots of good stuff. Thanks for the heads up, I do appreciate it. And since the Web Ringmaster has a good first name........ :thumb:

Hello to all. Just joined today. Lve in Japan, in the USN, This site is the best I have found. Plan on becoming a liftime member. Is there a differnt way to pay other than using PP

Posted by: arrow101

hehe thats ok

I was just curious this may not be the forum to discuss this but I am learnign my way around.
Basically I am a Bike mechanic here in Oz and I have my goals set high. I want to be a race team mechanic for a team in the US or in Europe.
Without sounding cocky I know i have the tallent for it and I am dedicated and very very keen to give it a go. With saying you work in the field and know many people around how hard is the scene to get into?
and how hard for an outsider to get into it? Asking this I do know there are many Aussie Mechanics both in the US and in Europe.
Any tips you can pass on to a future Yamaha Team Manager would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys. Great site you have here. I'm logging in from Woodstock, GA. I've just come to the dirt side after hanging up my racing leathers. I've quit roadracing my Ducati due to the need of being there for my wife and kids. We lost a few guys last season, and last weekend at VIR we had another fatality. I'm done, and I'm switching to dirt bikes for my family. I have a '98 KDX200 for myself, and I'm looking for an XR100 for my wife. My kids are a little young for motorcycles, but I have a pink/white pw50 ready to go for our 3 year old, Holly. Jackson, 12 months, will have to wait a couple of years. Anyway, I 'm looking forward to talking with many of you through this board, and learning a bit about off-roading. It's been 20 years since I've owned a dirt bike, so I'm gonna need all the gear and such, and maybe some advice here and there to get me going. I've been to Canadian Dave's KDX site, and it's cool, too.

Peace, and God bless!

I have been a registered user for awhile, but I just got a subscription so I can be more involved. I graduate in two weeks, and plan on getting back into off road riding and hopefully racing. I bought my first motorcycle, (95 YZ250), when I was 18 and I did some trail riding, but never raced. Then I went to college and played football so I sold the bike because I didn't have the time to ride. For the past 3 years I have rode only on the street on my '01 GSX-R750, but as soon as I get a job I am getting a bike and I really want to give racing a shot. I am also absolutely in love with FMX, and free riding in general, street or dirt, but dirt is more fun.

Anyway, this is a great site, with great forums, and the community of folks here is the best I have ever seen online. What you all have done for HLG and his family is very touching, I ordered some stickers recently to help out. I'm just glad to be a part of helping good people out.

It wasn't until recently I rode my friends CRF150F and though it felt nice to ride, and I felt alot better going up on hill on that instead of my friend's Z400 fourwheelr. Anyways I think I'm going to get a TTR-125L. I like how it feels, even though I'm 5'6 and it might be alittle small, I still need to get the hang of it, and then I'm getting a YZ125 hopefully! Hello everyone. I have joined to find out what others, like myself, do to their bikes for performance mods, educate myself, give suggestions to others, and hopefully meet new riders to ride with.
I am a "B" intermediate rider and I love to ride in all terrains and as fast/technical as possible. I am always up for a new challenge.
I love to ride with more experienced riders than myself so I can watch and learn different styles. I am addicted to riding and racing. I have also had the opportunity for the past year and a half to develope performance fork seals for WP, Showa and KYB forks. So if anyone needs help in those areas, I am here for you.

Thanks, KaBooM

Hey gang, i think i have been registered on here awhile but now that im getting more into the sport i will be posting more.
I picked up a 00 RM 250 in march, my previous bike was a 1980 Suzuki PE 400(first bike) I am still just getting my bearings on the new RM but its a ton of fun. I have busted alot of stuff on the bike already but thats half the fun. I have not yet made it to a real track but I spend alot of time at the local riding spots. Now im working on big jumps, trying to get comfortable hitting them so i can hit a real track. No serious injuries yet, a few cracked ribs, a bit of blood spilled but thats it so far. Anyways, look forward to hangin on the site and learning from everyone.

Found out about DRN from Natalie, I sold her my EXC 400, nice lady, and definitely an enthusiastic rider. I live in a great spot for good winter riding, like Clear Creek, Hollister Hills (pretty boring after 7 years, but I am grateful to have a quick destination when the riding Jones calls me), and 3.5 hours to the desert. Love it all, and will head for the Sierras, too, at the drop of a helmet.

I love my 04 EXC 450, and, well, nobody loves dirt riding than me, but you can certainly love it as much.

This is a great forum, have read many sections already. Looking forward to learning more here.

I'm Brian from outside of Boston, MA. Not to many places to ride around my house, but I am not far from some really nice spots in ME and NH I've been reading about. The first time I have ever tried a dirt bike was this past March. My buddy down in Jersey has a YZ125. As soon as I started to get goin and hit 3rd gear, I've been searching for a bike to buy. I still suck at riding, but I will get better with practice. I need some info on what would be a good starting bike and what areas to ride in around MA, RI, NH, and ME.

Thanks

Hello Everyone,
I just found you and it looks like just in time. Renu, huh?!!!!

I am a relatively new dirt rider (I bought my first bike a couple years ago and for one reason or another haven't ridden as much as I would've like (maybe once a month ), but all that's changed the last month and I'm getting more time in the saddle.

Last weekend, in Cal City, I did my first jumping. What a blast! Still not sure of all the dynamics, but working hard at figuring it out.

I've actually been looking at moving up to a little lighter, better set up bike (a CRF230 or CRF250X).

I'm very open to suggestions. Just want to get better. Glad to be here.

Hope to hear from you,
L

Hello everyone.
I rode as a kid but never raced because my parents were "doing me a favor". Keeping me from getting hurt was their major concern. That's why I bought my kid a dirt bike and I'll pay for the surgeries when the crashes happen! Live your dream! Bought an XR 250 to ride with him 2 years ago and we both ride CRF250R's now. My first race was in the over 35 class and I got lapped by the first three finishers. I have since raced two races in the 125 beginner with my son and had a BLAST! Got the holeshot both times and finished in the top five. Watched my son pass me in all four motos and felt very proud. Rode through a sweeping corner THIGH TO THIGH with him in the first moto! I'm very sorry I missed this stuff back when I could bounce. Not that I haven't done some pretty good bouncing in the last couple of years. I'm still in pretty good shape at 43. I think we might ride the very last race at Mosier Valley, TX this coming Sunday. Sorry to see that track go.
Glad to be here and I'm soaking mx up like a sponge. Lots to learn.

Hi, howz it going out there.
I have just joined this site and find it interesting.
I'm from Melbourne Australia and have been riding for 33years.
Fro those who like to surf the net between rides, you might find some interesting info about trail riding in various parts of Australia.
From what I have seen sniffin' around the net you guys in the states have a huge variety of terrain to get around in.
Desert, sand dunes, forrest (we call it "the bush" out here)and a lot of open areas.
I would like to ride in Oregon (based on the photoes I have seen) and I would love to see a round of the MX Nationals probably at Carlsbad (still running) OR Glen Helen.
I ride a DRZ400E which is nicely setup, pipe, bash plate, Krooze tune suspension and a few odds and ends.....I love it. My son, 15, also rides with me. He is not old enough to to have a Licience (18 in Australia). His bike (DT200) is regestered for "offroad" only and we basically ride illegally, but with respect for the laws (except that one) and the environment.
I have read a few articles from the states about Govt. wanting to close areas to Off road vehicles (4 and 2 wheels) for no good reason.
It's the same out here. Govt are happy to allow companies to pollute the environment but wont let a small number of people use aresource that they have ownership of.
Thats enough from me for now.
have a great day and enjoy the riding.

hey people! what is up? got this site recommened to me off an f150 enthusiatists site. i am having problems with my bike and am looking for help. but since this is the new dude post area, i will talk about myself. i live in sunny San Diego. been here for about 12 years. the good ol navy took me here that long ago, and been here since, absolutely love it here. have a beautiful wife and adorable son. been riding for like 2 years. my friends got me into it. first i went to a freestyle motocross, then it was a supercross. that got me kinda hooked, like a fish that just nibbles at the bait. then my friend took me out to a place locally called Hesperia. went riding for the first time, and that was the end of it! got a bike shortly after, been loving and following the sport since. now my ride has troubles starting, and i posted on the truck site for help, and some cool guy directed me here, so here i am, thank you for letting me be a part of this realm, hope all you can help me out. i am a DIY'er, and do not want to take the bike into a shop! so greetings from me to you! Hi Tony and all,

I live in Cambridge Ontario, 1hr West of Toronto.
I returned to street riding but found the insurance rates climbing beyond my interest. I'm an agressive rider and found myself always leading the pack. Many times taking the group beyond their abilities, luckally everyone made it to our destination scratch free. 1 small speeding ticket (very low km/hr over, if I had of been clocked a couple minutes earier I would be in jail) this season and I am 100% done with street riding. The public roads are not my personal race track.
I'm 42 and have taken to MX as of June 2004, after a month of getting the hang of it I'm normally riding right up there with the fast guys. Love jumping thus the new YZ250, the 380EXC was giving me my aches & pains that I don't think I'll have after a day on the YZ... Time will tell.

Always interested in finding some new dirt bikers to ride with.

what up? i'm bored at work and have this crazy infatuation with anything i can hurt or kill myself on. i live in louisville, ky and it's cold as hell. i've started riding dirt bikes when i was 9, but had to stop when i was 13 cause i couldn't afford it and had to sell my '93 yz125. now i'm finally back into it again and just bought a '00 RM125 to get back into the swing of things. i'm 22 now and whatever it takes, i'm here to stay.

i ride mostly woods, and trails, but once it warms back up i'll be hitting the tracks around here quite often. i ride street also, i have a '99 Suzuki TL1000R that I just bought this past summer. i'm like i_955 with the way i ride too, but the streets are my personal track and i plan on keeping them that way. what else are they good for? lol

I am a writer and editor for Vonconcepts Performance Magazine and we also have a little company called Rainey Performance Products. While I have a decade of roadracing experience to my credit... I never made the budget available to dirt ride -- although everyone said it was the best training. Now we are the Osaka dealer to Colorado and have to get up to speed quick on this stuff. As we look forward to opening our own storefront we are also entertaining the idea of Husquavarna, MZ, and Gas Gas for trials.

We aren't here to "push" our wares. I have a genuine interest in becoming involved in the sport -- just like we have in Sportbiking.

Just joined and am just entering dirtbike riding (as an adult). I have been road riding and track riding, but my son just started riding a dirt bike (suzuki JR50) and I figure I might as well get into trail riding and maybe some Harescrambles so he and I can do this together. Haven't ridden dirt bikes since the 70's. Looking at getting a Kawasaki KDX200 once the winter thaws. Got some Alpinestars Tech 6's from Santa, so will get them loosened up a bit this winter. Looking forward to learning a bunch from all of you, as it is different from sportbike riding, for sure. Yeeehaa.

Hi everyone!!! As many of you know I'm w/ that YZ165 guy...never knew a thing about bikes untill I started dating him back in the (well nevermind don't want to date us). Now I know more than some guys out there. I love watching him ride, and have been on the bike a few times myself, even have the gear tech 8's and a cool Arai helmet (he spoiled me). Spent the last couple of years raising the babies but my goal this up coming year is to get back out there and make this a family thing.

Welcome to our little piece of cyberspace.

Since you are going to make dirtbikes a family affair, you and the MR are going to have to make it to DirtWeek next year. It is the motha of all family affairs on the site. Just hang out at VD's house and follow his tail lights when he heads East next October. There will be a forum set up as soon as the dates are nailed down.

Again welcome and thanks for watching out for the newbies when they post. It is appreciated.

Hello,
I've been around here for about year as an unpaid suscriber. This place is great so I decided I should finally give some support.I started riding when I was 7 when I turned 16 I left dirtbikes behind and got into sportbikes.I started apprenticing as a motorcycle mechanic when I was 17. By 27 I had had enough of eating/sleeping/working motorcycles and hung up the helmet and changed careers. I'm back into it now for about a year now(the riding part, not the career) . Let the good times roll !!!!

I live in Spokane, Wa
and I know there is quite abit of trails where I camp near Newport, Wa. I'd be greatful for any pointers..

Hello everyone. I just discovered your site and I'm really impressed! Good job.
I've been riding and wrenching for about 35 years now (oh jeez...that sound like a LOT! lol) but I have a current problem that I'm searching for help with so I think I'll poke around a bit and see what's what.

Again, nice looking site.

I am just getting in to Dirt riding, this is a great site! Fortunately for me a friend bought a "Buddy Bike" and I have it in my garage. Now I am buying gear so I can go ride! I have only ridden a few times, on less than worthy bikes, but I am stoked to get into it. I live in Central California, and there are lots of places to ride around here! Fun For All!

Just ran across your web site while ordering a fender and think this is the greatest. KDX rules!!!! Mine is 20 years old and never had the top end touched. A little carb work, but other than that, great bike. Oh yea, it still starts on the first kick. oldmanmike.

I have got to ask, with all those bikes tell me you live in the burgs and not in Manhatten. I designed an addition for a house on Fire Island and about the same time you were typing your post I was letting Yahoo Maps show me how to get from LGA to West Warwick RI for a wedding of two of our members this summer.

I'm currently rideless. My last bike was a 2002 cbr600 f4i which was stolen from in front of my house (no garage). I had her for a year and a half and rode her everyday to work and for errands (except during really cold winter days). I miss riding. I thought about getting another sportbike but I also recently had my third child so I've decided that it would be safer to be on the trails rather than surrounded by 4000 lb cages on the road. Also my first son (8 yrs old) has been begging me for a bike. When I had my cbr I actually considered getting him a pocketbike. We went to Allsports GP in Va and saw a couple of races. He got on several of the bikes but at the end of the day he said he wanted a mx bike. I live in Frederick Md so I'm also doing research on places to ride. Tomahawk Mx is about 2-3 hrs away. I'm hoping to find something closer. My second son is starting to get interested in riding too. As you can see, I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET!!!!

Thank you and more power to this site.

Hey guys,

been in and out of here... but never taken a second for a hello
.
I'm 37. Married almost 10, 2 kids. I work as a digital artist for Relic Entertainment.

Rode as a kid from 11-17.
I've been back on a bike for about 3 years now. I had a 2002 KLX 300... dropped some dough (2k) into it got it movin quicker but just couldn't stand the weight... or the lack of clearance. Anyways I hope the thief enjoys it more than I did.

Over the last year I have been riding just single track on my 03' KX250. though the lighter bike has been making my meat belt grow. I just don't seem to be working as hard... but riding much faster.

I have been riding mostly just the Fraser Valley , (about 1hour out of Vancouver, British Columbia.)
I run an email group with about 20 guys on it. If you have ever been looking to come up and check it out... you're welcome to join us for braaph. just send me an email.
We are all intermediate riders... so we shouldn't slow you down too much. you can check out a couple pictures at my msn site if you like. (it seems you'll have to email me for the link I can't paste in the link.)

I hope to be tapping you all for info soon. thanks for reading this far and stay safe.

kg.

Well, here I am.

Ive migrated over here from ThumperTalk. Well, I guess I immigrated.

N E way, I live in Washington state, on the dry side. I ride mostly woods and off-road but have a deep love for MX and RAMPS

I just got me a new YZ250 and that thing rips. Havent figured out the suspenders yet though. Lots of head shake. Last weekend I had a good ride, me and a friend teamed up and won our first expert class event. WE ARE THRILLED.
