Neither Woods nor MX..... how about a contest

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

..... doing wheelies and stoppies (scoring points for each category, yielding a prize for the winner):

a- longest wheely (points for duration and distance)
b- erectest wheely (within a 15 foot space, e.g.)

c- longest duration stoppy (move no more than x inches)
d- erectest stoppy

3-member judging, visually. In case of "tie" a run-off will be held...

I hear that Ivan does a mean wheelie

Posted by: nikki

Sounds dangerous - count me out LOL! But I'd love to judge/witness others take the challenge. Any consolation prize for the person to loop it out the biggest?

Posted by: truespode

I'm definately out.

This is how well I did in my last wheelie contest...

How about a times mini enduro course with a multiple offset log crossing, under fence drag, combination with some of that barrel racing thrown in to the mix along with the wheelie/stoppie?

Make it spectator friendly close to camp.

Posted by: Jeff Gilbert

I still like the idea of "BumperCross." The coarse could be roped off with barbed wire for spectator safety.

Posted by: Pokie

dangerous?... as in hill climbs, we would have a couple of burly fellows standing beside the bike at the "stoppie" point to prevent the bike from slamming someone going over the bars; of course in the case of wheelies, well. we may need a row of burlies on either side.... hell, easy for me to say: I won't do either one. Of course this is for people who know that they know how to do these things, no "first timers"....

heck the objective is to have some non-racing dealies for "entertainment" purposes.... through which points could be earned over a period of days for a "special prize" like a Shoei helmet, Agio bag etc or a bike wash ...................... of course we could invite the metal-globe cage riders to exhibit their skills...

Posted by: joereitman

and what exactly are the "prizes"?

Ouch Ivan! Just look how the whole back end of the bike is deformed. The seat is way out of shape and the fender is gone.

That looks like it was a very expensive side show.

Posted by: biglou

I'm all for the barrel races again. That was a blast! Let's see if we can set up closer to the pits this time so's we can make even bigger fools of ourselves!

Ivan will always be my "Wheelie King"!

Posted by: MrLuckey

Lou, the barrel races were only about 50 yds from the end of the pits last year, how close you wanna get

Posted by: Kav

well we could set up the barrel races around Camp Lou...

Posted by: biglou

Now you're talkn'! lol. I meant like in the open field or something, just so more people could witness "the spectacle" that is barrel racing! That was a hoot! Way more fun than I figgered it would be. :thumb:

Posted by: BEEF706

I'm with Lou on the Barrel racing, that was great big gobs of humiliating fun!! The only thing better would be to do it in full view of all of the people with video cameras

Posted by: KiwiBird

Is riding through the fire going to part of the competition?

Posted by: Pokie

hey just about the whole barrel race of 2003 is on video; it will be on the DVD version that TimR is working on...

First time you saw that? That's how he got his name and how the trophy named! Gotta be one of the great net pics to be floating around.

Ivan is my hero.

Posted by: Okiewan

The barrel races were awesome. Still wondering about the Arkansas boy who convinced to me "allow it". He won all the cash! (walks away thumbing all those dollars thinking "silly yankees") He was right though, "all the really fast guys will duff it".

Best memory is Elk throwing the XR50 away, losing a shoe, etc.. lol. Good stuff.

Posted by: Treejumper

I'll see Ivan's Wheelie and throw in my Stoppie!

Nice TJ.

Ya know, to be totaly fair, I did the same exact thing on that same jump following my son around it. Saw it and figured, "aw...why not just roll over this one." Problem was I didn't know it just dropped off on the back side.

Posted by: BEEF706

Obviously that bully on the XR100 roosted you causing temporary loss of motor skills

Posted by: Danman

That was pretty TJ!

Posted by: joereitman

Yep, that was a classic.

Yep that damn SqueakyGirl! But so i dont look as bad its a XR200 which has about a 1/2HP more than the XR100.

Posted by: BEEF706

I stand corrected, Squeaky you bully I still remember coming into the pits and thinking that was the main track

I'm definately IN!! I've hoped for an event like this ever since MWSF '00.

I say no "burely fellows" to keep us from going over the bars. That's where all the fun is! If you go over...everyone laughs!

Ya, I waited for EVER going around a barrel for him to un-pile so we could finish our "mini bike" race around the barrels.

Posted by: Mike & Mary

That Arkansas boy (Mike Snook) is still laughing, but he did feel bad enough to put 1/2 that money back into the second pot. If you guys will let us come back this year, we will bring the cones, so we don't have to use beer boxes on sticks.

Posted by: MrLuckey

Mary, I've been waiting for one of you to post something. you and Mike were a nice addition to the family at Dirtweek this past year, hope you both plan on attending again.

[QUOTE=truespode]I'm definately out.

What gear was that in..ugghh!!

Looks like the one my buddy did in 4th on his cr250 ...on the pavement...told him not to drink beer when he rode!

Posted by: Mike & Mary

Glad to know someone remembered us, and thanks for letting us crash the party. Mike and I do not visit the internet often - and we have been busy with Mike's racing and trials comp. We had such a good time with you guys last year, and plan to be there this year. I am president of the Arkansas Harescramble Championship Series this year, Mike is riding this series and the PARTS UNLIMITED OMA/UORR series, and rode the first GNCC in Gilmer. We are having the first race for the OMA series at our ranch in Northwest Arkansas on March 13 and 14. Anyone close enough and wants to come you can contact us at wildcatranch@tds.net. I'm gonna have to spend some time and figure out how to pay our dues and become a bona fide member of this here organization. Hope to see all of you in September/October.

Posted by: Philip

I think if there is a fire :flame: involved in the barrel racing my money is on Lou!

I would love to judge a wheelie contest. Although the best erectile kinda scares me.

Posted by: Patman

I plan to make all my money placing side bets in the wheelie & stoppie contest. I'm putting all my green on that freak of nature Mike Snook! Snook on a freakin' XR200 could pull better wheelies or stoppies than me on my Montesa!!

Posted by: Senior KX Rider

I'm takin lessons from a buddies kid. He is 12 and can ride wheelies on an XR50 for miles.

Posted by: Mike & Mary

Mike is now riding a CRF450 now. Crossed over, you know. We are getting ready for our big OMA National next weekend. Have you been seeing us in Cycle News, Dirtbike, Dirt Rider, etc?? Wildcat 100, Decatur, AR - that's us, Mike and Mary! See you guys in a few!

Posted by: cr125rrider

That sounds sick!!! i would definetly do that if it was to happen.

Posted by: spandy

Count me in on the wheelies. The last time I had one taped off we had to use the odometer of my friends pickup which came to a little over 2/5ths of a mile (over 4-10ths). And yes it was on the highway and yes I had tires that were way over do for replacement....that just helped them alone

Oh ya, I'm bad

Posted by: dooner

Yeah thats a great idea. Thats all I like doing is wheelies. Had a 1983 xr350 that was a wheelie machine. Then a 1998 xr400 which was even better. Just got a 1980 yz250 and it seems to flip easily....No stoppies with the drum brakes too. I'm gonna go practice tomorrow I only rode it down the street tonight.
