Good fitting boots?

On my first ride, which I am still recovering from, I bruised my big toe & the one next to it, pretty bad(not as bad as the rider who needed his toe pinned). I was wearing my sons boots, they felt long enough in size & my foot did not seem to move around very much. I fell twice, once on my rear and the other basically standing up when I touched the ground, but fell forward stretched out on the ground. The only thing I can figure is my foot went forward in the boot & jammed it or the top of the boot @ the toes gave in & smashed it then. One problem I know I have is that I have a real narrow foot, A width. My question is is there boots that would fit a norrower foot like mine or in-soles or padding to protect your toes and keep your foot still. I read about the dicussion over tech 6 vs. tech 8 boots and found it very helpful. Thanks for the help, John.

I've heard of people smashing thier toes, a couple of names come to mind (John Janek & Tony Eeds)
I have Tech 6's and my foot fits REAL tight in them. I would suggest that you to head over to Chip's and try on a good pair of boots. My 1st pair was M-4's made by Alpinestars and they were real comfy. They offerred what I felt was adequate protection but when they wore out I wanted to move up to something a little better. Before I settled on the Tech 6's, I tried on some other A/S models (he has a bunch) that felt good too and didn't cost as much as the Tech 6 & 8.
To my knowledge the biggest difference between the lower line A/S boots has to do more with ankle and instep support. The rigidity of the 6's are greater than that of the M-4's I had and the cost was about $100. more also. I'm not really up on all the differences between the 6's & 8's but I do know the SIDI's have some bracing for ankle support.
Back to your main question, try on some and see how they feel, that's the way I had to do it.

I wore the M4's and have had two pairs of the Tech 6's since then. No comparison. The M4's are an "enduro" boot, and are much more flexy. I love my 6's, and I have a fairly wide foot. I think it was TWMX that had a recent online article about the latest version of both the 6 and the 8 that was pretty informative. Another thing-a lot of places will give closeout pricing on the previous models when the new ones become available. I picked up my first pair of 6's that way. Might be worth checking out in the near future.

John, I have been wearing my Tech 8's for about a year now. I wear a size 10 boot with a very narrow foot. Because of the inner bootie the tech 8 has, the fit is nice and snug. Although these boots tend to be heavy and wide, I find them very comfortable. You may want to try a pair on to see if they are right for you.
Good luck, Darrin

Just my 2 cents....I've worn Tech8s for the last 4-5 years. Terrifically comfy, great protection, but a little bulky and heavy.
Just recently switched to Sidi Force Flex. The Sidi isn't quite as cushy comfy as the Techs, but are much less bulky and heavy. Support is superb!, but hinged ankle provides more mobility than even my well broke in Techs.
As far as preventing your toe from getting jammed like it did, be sure to keep that second buckle (one up from bottom) nice and snug...this is the one that prevents your foot from sliding forward.
