Support DRN, Feel Good

DRN has grown dramatically over the last 5 years and there is no end in sight. As such, our costs to maintain the site have gone through the roof. In an effort to keep the site self supportive and maintain continued growth, we have developed upgrade programs: DRN Subscriptions & DRN SupportTeam Memberships.

What is it?
It's for those that would like to contribute to the forums to insure it's longevity and continued evolution. This program was designed to help offset the operating costs of the dedicated server, bandwidth and developmental/software costs. Your support will allow us to continue to improve the site and cover the costs associated with providing this resource.

Is DRN worth $3.25 a month to you?

These programs are optional. Other forums like DRN have gone to full subscription based programs, forcing all members to contribute. We're doing it differently. We'd ask that those that WANT to contribute, do so. For those that can't, or prefer not to, you can still use the forums, but on a limited basis.

How to Join
To join one of the memberships, please go to "User CP" (the link in the nav bar at the top of the forums). That will take you to your control panel. See the links on the left side of the screen in the user control panel, scroll to the bottom and click "DRN Memberships" then select an option.

We hope you find value in the Forums and will consider supporting it!

Thanks, I'm on my way there now.

As a subscriber, how do we know when we are to pay for the next year?

Posted by: Okiewan

That depends.
If you subscribed more than 2-3 months ago, paypal will email you, telling you the subscriptions is due. If you do nothing, it will auto renew. If you want to cancel, you need to go to paypal and cancel it.

If you subscribed recently, through the USER CP (this is the new system), DRN will send you an email telling you the subcription is due. If you do nothing, the subscription will cancel and your user status will return to "registered".

See the image below for the new way, found in your "User CP", under "DRN Subscriptions" (the User CP link is at the top of each page)

Just wondering what happened to my 'registration' ... I feel a bit like a dork, but here goes ... what the heck, I'm and old guy with a computer, what do you expect?

I have been a Registered member since ~mid-2003 ... got a bunch of very valuable help with my engine problems from several of the folks in the 4-Stroke forum. Since that time I have been exploring other forums and have discovered the Michigan Trail Riders group whose activities I am interested in becoming involved ... subsequently I have joined this group. In studying the SOP of DRN I became aware of the membership levels and decided on Sunday, 21mar04 to become a Lifetime Support Team Member ... I figure that this payment is due for all the expert help I received from the folks who posted in answer to my technical questions.

To make a long story short, almost immediately after completing the subscription through PayPal on 21mar04 my access to the site seemed to expand to levels described for Lifetime STMs ... e.g., access to the membership list, Private Email. However, since that time, my access to all of these additional capabilities has disappeared and I am greated with a grey box telling me that I do not have sufficient privileges to access these areas?

Just wondering if I have done something wrong ... I have logged off several times, cleared my cookies ... the situation seems stable in this limited access configuration. My PayPal account indicates that the transaction has been completed to DRN per details copied below. Can you help me figure this out?

Thanks,
Terry Nestrick

Terry,

Not sure what happened, but it's fixed and good to go.
Thanks for supporting DRN !

Posted by: Nestrick

Thanks for the very quick response ... now, if the rest of the world worked only half as good as DRN admin ... I look forward to many hours poking around in here.

Posted by: Layton

Okie,

I got to thinking about my earlier question and your reply. I didn't pay with PayPal so will they still notify me?

Posted by: Okiewan

Layton, no, you won't get any notification of any kind. It's a manual process that was used in the beginning and the reason we do it the way we do now.

Posted by: Nestrick

Okiewan, I'm still having access problems ... ??? Basically back to my previous situation again on log-in today ... can you help?

Okie,
When I try to sign up using Paypal, it gives me an error saying there is something wrong with the seller's e-mail.

Posted by: Okiewan

Humm...
Are you using the link to DRN Subscriptions in "User CP" ?

Posted by: Yamahauler

Yes, and then "order using Paypal". Then...

Error Detected

We cannot process this transaction because there is a problem with the PayPal email address supplied by the seller. Please contact the seller to resolve the problem.

If this payment is for an **** listing, you can contact the seller via the "Ask Seller a Question" link on the listing page. When you have the correct email address, payment can be made at www.paypal.com.

So if I can't even access subscriber areas (for sale forum), why should I invest in this site? I can't even get a moderator to answer my emails about my current tech problem with the site. My for sale forum is locked, and I cannot access it. I would be glad to support this site, but I don't particularly like the way moderators can just lock out a subscriber without any feedback, dialog, communication, etc. etc.

Guys, please answer my question about why the forum is locked for me. Answer correctly, and you have a new support member.

You have to be a subscriber to access the subscriber areas.

See my first response above. YOU are not locked out of the for sale forum, but, everyone needs to be a subscriber to POST items for sale. There are several reasons for this. Moderators do not lock subscribers out of anything.

Answer correctly? It's spelled-out in the first post of this thread and now in this post.

How long does it take for my subscription privileges to start working?

Usually a couple of days. Sometimes it may take longer considering it's only one guy who takes care of all the incoming support team payments.

It's automated and happens within minutes of joining via paypal. Have you subscribed? There is no paypal record using the email address in your profile.

Posted by: DirtIsMyName

My paypal pays from a different email address. I did use your links to subscribe.

What do I have to do to get my payment credited and start my subscriber access?

Posted by: Okiewan

Did you answer the other thread on the same subject?
Did you join via paypal? If so, what's the transaction number or email address you use at paypal.
It's an automated process, as soon as you join, advanced features are enabled.

This is from this thread, just a couple posts ago. I will email this and my paypal email. I sent two emails.

Posted by: Okiewan

The different email was the issue. You are all set. Thanks for supporting the site!

Posted by: DirtIsMyName

Thanks for the quick fix. All better now.

Posted by: DirtIsMyName

When I click Garage I get 404 not on this server. I can't even find a link for email. Somewhere I read that we get an email address here. Should I have an email account, DirtIsMyNameatdirtrider.net? substituted at for @ intentionally.

I also have been having trouble getting to this site. I saw the thread on this, it is a widely reported problem. I get the message: dirtrider.net not found, check the name and try again. Sounds like a DNS error to me if I had to guess. What is the address here, 67.19.32.101? I can try it next time I have problems. When I can't get on I can't even ping the site.

Posted by: INCA

I got the message - Post requests from foreign hosts are not allowed - when trying to post a picture. What am I doing wrong?

Posted by: Okiewan

Humm... I've never heard of anything like that before?
Please detail the steps and results when trying to post a pic.

Posted by: INCA

No wonder Woodsy calls me Trouble Maker. I get the window with the 3 boxes and Brouse. Click on the top Brouse to get the picture from documents. The name comes in the box OK. Click Upload and wait. Then the message - POST requests from foreign hosts are not allowed - comes up, and I can go no further.

Posted by: Okiewan

That's not right... I'm not really sure where to start lookig to fix it either.
Gimme some time.

Posted by: INCA

Will this help. When logging out, this message appears. "An error has occured while attempting to log you out. Click here to log out". The next message says -"All cookies cleared". It has been this way for a couple months or so.

Posted by: INCA

Okiewan - The picture posting problem has been solved. The problem was caused by an optimizer my daughter had installed to speed things up some. That created a recognition factor of some kind. Thanks for your calmness.

I don't see that option anymore?

Okie,

I need to cancel my sub, as you can see, I ain't been around.

Thanks for the fun, it has been a great help.

I see in a few other posts you mention to go to paypal and handle it there. I went there, and sadly, use paypal a lot... really, a lot, more than you think... a LOT. I scrolled through maybe 200 pages looking for something from here, but wasn't sure what I was looking for and didn't find anything.

How do I cancel my sub?

Many thanks,
-B

Posted by: biglou

I haven't had a subscription in a while (maybe 4 years), but there was a place on PayPal to manage your subscriptions. It took me a while to find it. Can't promise it's still there, but I had to go in and cancel a subscription myself or it paid out every year when it came due. (I had purchased a subscription for another member and only intended it to be for one year)

Posted by: ChopperDave

How can you tell when your subscription/stm will expire?

Posted by: Okiewan

Gotta keep track of it in paypal.

Posted by: uh_oh

I wish i had a cc, id subscribe in a heart beat.
