Directions to Nixon

From Moonrocks

Go back out to Winnemucca Ranch road, turn right (the same way to came in). Go all the way out to the highway (445) to were the road end and turn left (north). Follow 445 to 446 to 447, you are in Nixon! To be more precise: You will need to turn right on 446 from 445 in probably say 13 miles? Then you will follow 446 for probably another 13 miles to 447, You will be heading right into Nixon. Where this 446 ends (at the Nixon store-on right) turn left (447). 25mph in Nixon - you are on an Indian reservation, OBEY THE SPEED LIMIT!!! you will travel probably 1 to 1 1/2 miles and start heading out of nixon around a bend to the left. You will see a paved road to the right (WITH A RIBBON ON IT-PINK). You will turn right there, but make an IMMEDIATE left on a dirt road with a cattle guard about 100 yards away (WITH A RIBBON ON IT-PINK). You will probably follow this dirt road 2 or 3 miles and go across another cattle guard. The dirt road on your right - immediately after the cattle guard is the staging area - PARK! I will be along soon.

My cell phone is (775) 771-8850.

Ok, so I saw some info on this Nixon ride in one of the other topics. What are we looking at here? Do I need to play hookie from work so I can go on this ride too? Is it going to be just one big organized ride or like Moonrocks where everyone just kind of teams up to go out? What time and how many people will be going?

I must be crazy, now I am thinking about riding Thursday, Friday, Saturday, then racing 80-100 miles on Sunday.

It is just a ride for the early arrivers. Incredible variety is offered at Nixon. My 2nd favorite place to ride.

Directions from Reno/Sparks to Nixon:

Travel I-80 east to the Wadsworth exit (exit #43). At the bottom of the exit turn left. This road will go back underneath 1-80 and turn right, it is called route #427. You will follow this road for about 1 1/2 miles and turn left of route #447 all the way to Nixon ~16 miles.

What time do you think?

Posted by: Strick

I was going to ask you the same question. It gets dark around 5:15, if that aids in your decision.

We need to get the trailer hitched in the morning, eat and do the usual so if we leave at, say, 9ish(?) when will we get to get to the staging area from Moonrocks ?

By 10am easy. Let's say 10:30!

Strick,
How long is the drive from Reno/Sparks? I saw the directions, but I have no idea how far it is to the Wadsworth exit. I am thinking I can come in and work a few hours in the morning on Thursday, then meet you guys out there, or maybe follow you out.

It sounds really cool but I am not sure we'll be up to it, after driving for 14 hours. I'll try to make it though. Who all is going? Will Keith and I be able to keep up?

Posted by: Strick

Wadsworth is probably 26-28 miles from Sparks.

Well, Jen & Will (I think), Kiwi, Me, McD (a local), Ultraman (a local), the Northern Folk from Canada.

You are certainly welcome. I will wait up for you. I am out to have a good time, not race all weekend.

Strick and FC22- Yup, please count Will and I in for joining ya'll on Thursday. I've been hesitant about posting much lately because the weather between here and Reno was looking pretty bad, so we were getting concerned about the drive, but the forecast is looking better now. Yup, FC22, you know we can always ride together.

Yes and it's great fun but you're faster and I haven't ridden in months (or done much of anything else).

Also, Keith is a newbie.

Ah crap. My wife just reminded me that I have a root canal on Thursday. Talk about a double wammy. No Nixon, and a root canal.
I guess I won't be riding until Friday now. Dang...
Maybe I can bribe Strick into taking me out there some other time..

Sounds good.

Looks like Mick and I will attempt to make this one since we plan on getting there Thursday morning.
