would that set up be legal for vintage racing i beleive thats evo 2 no link rear drum brake air cooled any thoughts have acess to both

By the letter of the AHRMA rules it is probably ok. In the spirit of Vintage/Evo racing it's probably not nice, but who said competition has to be nice?

The 83 CR480 is by AHRMA rules an "Ultima" class bike. The 80 CR250 is a "GP" class bike. Technically, you can't take major parts from a higher class bike and use them on a lower class bike. Your CR250 would be considered an open class "Ultima" bike after the switch.

BTW, if you really want to rule the roost, buy a 78 or 79 Maico roller and put an Maico 490 reed valve motor in it. Next install the front end off an 81 with 43 mm forks (after Maico Only shortens the travel to keep the sweet late 70's steering geometry), add an 81 swingarm (longer for more stability and to keep the front wheel on the ground sometimes) and you'll have what Eric Cook at Maico Only calls the 50 HP Moped! Close to the size of a 125 with the power of an open classer!

...except OEM and after-market forks which can be from the Ultima time period (12.e)

You would have to be a real Honda nut to do this before picking up a YZ465H...
