I am planning on getting a 2002 KTM 125 sx for racing harescrambles and i was wondering if anybody knew if the bike could go 3 hours on a tank of gas? The stock amount is 2.0 gallons.
Ernesto,
I ran an '01 125sx in last years GNCC series with great results( and will run an '02 for next year) so I got a pretty good idea of what to expect. Range is dependant on how hard you are with the throttle, but I doube you will get 3 hours. I was barely able to go 1-1/2 hours on the stock tank so I ended up having to make two pitstops during the early races. I purchased the 11 liter SX tank for last 2/3rds of the season which still didn't get me 3 hours worth of fuel, but was sufficient to make 1 1/2 to 2 hours, even under fast paced conditions. I don't mind stopping once as I usually need goggles, gloves or something else so this was fine for me. The tank is an OEM part that your can buy from the dealer and the best thing is that it doesn't change the seat/tank layout like so many other oversize tanks. All the extra capacity is down low by the carb so to never even feel it.
FOO-FOO BIKE,
I had one of those the year before and it was a great bike. With a pipe/silencer and read cage the bike was almost the equal of a modern 250! but the 125 SX was lighter and felt much narrower. Beyond that, it handles better. I miss the bottom end of the 200 but the handling more than makes up for it. It all comes down to what you want. I prefer the lighter, thinner and more nible 125.
