Unfortunately, there isn't a CRF150R's or a YZ150F...yet. I would expect that they are in the works but I have no idea when we'll see them. I'm not even sure if the AMA rules allow the displacement advantage (but I seem to remember seeing TTR125's in the 85 class).

The closet things right now are the CRF150 and the TTR125, but these are play bikes. With some work and cubic dollars they can be serious trail bikes.

I can't quote AMA rules but the CMRC rules are usually pretty much the same. The displacement limit for 4 strokes in the 85 class is 100cc's. Unless that changes it's unlikely we will ever see a 4 stroke racer for the 85cc class. Our association was not CMRC sanctioned last season and they allowed the TT-R125's to race the 85 class as long as it wasn't a big wheel, the big wheels had to race supermini. This season we have returned to the CMRC fold so it will be interesting to see if they allow them to run with the 85's.

up here where i race, if your in the expert class in the 85cc you can also race the 125cc class.

which unless your really good i don't see the advantages besides weight. :bang:

also you can also race a 125cc in the 250cc class for the same qualifications.

yet again, i don't see the advantages besides weight. :bang:

one more note: you can also race the KTM 525 in the 250cc class :coocoo:

I have been watching for this also. Per a recent converstation with my Honda dealer, right now the hold back is the weight of a 4S bike. Even 5 or 10lbs on such a small bike and rider would be a disadvantage.

My guess is that in the next couple of years they will make some rule changes. The future seems to be 4S with lower exhaust emittions so it would make sense that the factories would want to start off your riders on the 4S path.

dirt rider (the mag) reported that both Honda and Yamaha are working on a 105cc 4 stroker and that power was the problem and not weight.

I would think that a 105cc 4S would be a 65cc class bike. Those little 65's make some serious power - 17hp stock, and I'm sure the motodads can get well over 20. Being that a 250cc 4S makes only 33hp (give or take), I can see how a 105cc 4S would have trouble.

The Big Four need to be logged into this thread since this will be the way the market will eventually go. unfortunatly you can only get these bikes custom made basically mating a modified 100cc 4stroke engine into a 2 stroke 85cc frame these are the best bikes for the smaller woods riders and they are mega fun for the seniors also

I have to correct myself as Honda and Yamaha are working on a 150cc 4 stroker to replace the 85's.

I doubt they are putting much effort into developing a bike that would be illegal in all classes of 85cc racing. With the head start Yamaha had on everyone else I imagine we would have already seen a 85 cc replacement if one was in the works.

They can release them all they want. Until they get the AMA to change the rules that displacement 4 stroke would be illegal in the 85 class. You can bet any future 4 stroke displacement rule changes will be met with much scrutiny after the 125/250F situation.

Even if they do come out with an ultra trick 150cc 4-stroke it won't be competitive against the 85cc 2-stroke until they completely ban the 85cc 2-stroke.

i just got the new dirtrider magazine with 2007/2008 photos and info on the new bikes and the new honda and yamaha racing 4-stroke 150's will have to race in the 105cc or supermini because they dont want to eliminate the 85cc class because the 150cc 4-strokes will be pretty expensive.

Interesting, I don't see any cc rule for 4 strokes in the Supermini class. Rulebook states 80cc-105cc Supermini, whereas most other classes it will list 66cc-85cc 2 stroke and 76cc-125cc 4 stroke.
