JRA here, been hurting longer than I've been riding (started riding at 12, I', now 23). Currently on prednizone. The doc wants to get me off it and has tried me on several others, but so far nothing has helped at all that I can tell other than the prednizone. If anyone has any recomendations I'm in need of something. The doc says I really shouldn't be on the prednizone due to long term effects but I can't even walk normally without it.

Arthirits!!!

Bikepilot get to a Rheumatologist. They are excellent. I was on prednisone for a while and the Rhuemo suggested Voltarin. I have changed for the better of the 2 and now can get up in the morning without pain! Get checked out first before using Voltarin. Just an alternative for you.

Thanks for the tip on voltrain - I have been seeing a Rheumatologist since I was 11yo (I'm 23 now) and they have tried several different meds on me, but never Voltrain. I'll ask about it.

Thanks,

Josh

The cure for arthritis (non-rheumatoid arthritis)...chiropractic care! Most arthritis can be helped, if not cured through good chiro care. Drugs only mask the symptoms, and do not correct the cause.

Guys I'm 32 and need a total knee..(multiple opinions. I dislocated it in 87, but I was young and they did not do much then. In 92 I had surgery and again in college. I'm going to make it a long way but I'm worried. I want to ride all my life, I'm super active, I bike 4000 miles plus a year, ride MX, HS, moutian climb etc.. My question is I can make it a while yet, but at some point I'm going to need a new one. Can you still ride with a artifical knee? I heard TP has one. Whats the deal?

After I had a compression fracture in my back years ago , I also have it ........ . After I had a #3 right shoulder separation 2 yrs. ago the doc said if the bones rub together to much they'll become arthritic and then well have to cut the clavical back a wee bit , cool .

I don't know if mine is arthritis on carpel tunnel syndrome, if thats how it is spelled. After a few laps my hands try to go numb and also when using a hammer driving nails. I've got good circulation so I'm guessing that thats not the problem. Also after a good round of riding I can hardly use my clutch hand for a few days, any one know what this could be other than arm pump, if it only did it when I rode I would blame arm pump but any time I use them doing and thing I have to use a good grip it does it.

numb

between two bad rotator cups, a left knee with serious pcl and mcl damage, two years of commercial crabing, and 15 years of framing, i spend most of my day convincing my self that the pain was always there and thats just a part of life. yes the arthritis in my hands is bad, shoulders, only when the berometer drops quick, knee, well if i can put some photos in here some where it will explain it self.

Left wrist kills me after several hours of clutching... Anyone else ever have this problem??? It gets to the point at the end of the day where i just pull my arm back to clutch, because I can;t squeeze the clutch. :-(

Started racing in 1970. I've broken several bones and torn several tendons also. As it stands right now ortho doc says I could use a knee replacement in the right knee but I'm too young and should hold off as long as I can stand it. I take Vicoprofen 7.5 2-3 times a day. Now that winter is here its 3 times.I was on Methadone which worked great and only 1 time a day but I could not concentrate on that that stuff and as I'm in college my grades started to slip so I switched to the Vicoprofen. I'm almost 50, wait till you see how it feels when you get older and pay the price for admission to our sport. And yeah your right mornings suck

The thormeister returns. How you doing? Man, you're on some mighty good stuff for pain, there buddy. Only one piece of advice--trash the vicoprofen in lieu of vicodin. You don't want all that IBFN hanging around. It'll trash your stomach and kill your kidneys. It's hard to do Larocco's Leap with a belly full of dialysate (Peritoneal Dialysis). Keep in touch.

Ahhhh so you think you can scare me with that insider talk. I'm in my sophmore year at IU/N working on my BS/N. Just finished my first semester A&P start the second semester in 1 more week.CNS/PNS, origins, insertions, phosolipid bilayers, I thought I was going to have an anuerism trying to remember all that stuff.took 14 credits last summer, just finished 14 more and 14 on the table. If all goes as planned I'll be able to go to work with you in 2010.OR/Scrub thats for me.Yeah maybe we could do a local and I could watch you replace my knee and get me off the pain meds.

Honorary meteorologist here! I'm 42 and have been a professional mechanic since I was 16 and riding desert from the age of 8. If I lay my hands palm down on the table most of my fingers will be rotated a good 45deg's to the outside,(from twisting nuts and bolts on and off). Plus the extra metal plate that holds my right hand to my right arm, a souvenir from being run over by a truck. Add to that the abuse my hips and knees take after years on the MX track. All this adds up to much discomfort when it's cold outside. However, a couple of Darvon and a beer work wonders  .
I too had arm pump problems when racing. I changed my riding style to compensate. I carry more speed through the corners and stay off the clutch. I also don't use the clutch when shifting. I don't have nearly as much armpump as I used to.

I have been having knee, shoulder and thumb problems as of late. I know the thumb problem stem from the balisong flipping and it sucks!

my update: i posted in this thread a little over a year ago. in the meantime, i've been working out regularly, riding mtb's, running, and racing mx. i've lost 25 pounds and my ankle has improved 100%, hell a million percent. i'll never have the range of motion back but the pain is infrequent now and i've gotten most of my strength back. no more pain killers, i'm just thrilled! life is good again. don't give up.

I'm told by a specialist I have athritis in my hips that he could spot from xrays, my mate the radiologist (who took the xrays) thinks otherwise. Specialist paid by compesation provider so does not have my respect. Result is hips get sore after walking 20 minutes but I stand on concrete floor for 8 hours a day so no real drama there for an overweight 52year old. But my fingers are starting to loose mobility and strength and are sometimes painful and this interferes with my riding so more of a worry. No disfigurement but all the sore fingers have been bruised to black when I was a softball catcher as a younger man and got hit by fowl balls etc.
