Considering a 05 yz250

I have been a long time honda nut, having 00-01-and now an 03, which has mo-better eg porting, and a bunch of other mods, I have to say the best bike I have owned, very reliable, I just want to update, and can get a good deal on an 05 yz, have heard they dont turn well, anyone have opinions. I do mostly hare scrambles with some Mx, wondering what mods to get a yz setup for the woods?

I went to a 05 yz250 from an 02 cr250. Just a way all around better bike. It turns very good. The best thing you can do to the bike is get the forks revalved, add a skid plate and raditior braces and go. The engine has much more lowe end compared to the honda.

Ditto. Lose the 739's if it still has them. Mine turns infinitely better than my YZ450 did, and at least on par with 05-06 CRF450. Power is very respectable. The 06 YZ250 susp is supposed to be much better than in 05, but for my skill level, and my limited air time, the susp does fine for me. That said, I still intend to send mine to MX-Tech eventually for a complete rework based on all the things I've read about the 05 lacking.

Raising the forks 5mm in the triple clamps pays big dividends for this bike!
Take the time to set the race sag as well, and keep checking it.

I love mine. I put a 756 dunlop on the front. Put Rg3 triple clamps with 23 mm off set, jd jetting with pc pipe and silencer and it is incredible. For me off road it has the perfect powerband... :ride: :cool:

how about an 05 vs an 06 500.00 difference, anyone tell me if they think it's worth it? re-sale will not really matter, as I usually keep the bikes 3-4 yrs.

In 3 - 4 years you'll get most of that $500.00 back AND you'll get to enjoy the improved suspension in the meantime. IMHO, the '06 has components that can't be added or "revalved" on the '05
