Fork Bushings

How do I keep from destroying fork bushings when changing fork seals. When I get everything apart, it appears that pulling the fork tubes apart has caused the coating on the bushings to fray. Is there a way to prevent this? I hate having to buy bushings everytime I change fork seals.

Terry Hay had posted a thread on this. I believe is was "Don't damage the bushings". You can check there.
