I purchased a rm 125 from a friend that had it for awhile. I want to find out the year it is so I can start modding. Any help would be greatly appreciated

just check the 10 didit of the VIN, here is how the years go......
A – 1980
B – 1981
C – 1982
D – 1983
E – 1984
F – 1985
G – 1986
H – 1987
I – not used
J – 1988
K – 1989
L – 1990
M – 1991
N – 1992
O – not used
P – 1993
Q – not used
R – 1994
S – 1995
T – 1996
U – not used
V – 1997
W – 1998
X – 1999
Y – 2000
Z – not used

Beginning with 2001, numbers are used to designate the model year.

1 – 2001
2 – 2002
3 – 2003
4 – 2004
5 – 2005
6 – 2006
7 – 2007
8 – 2008
9 -- 2009

Your list is really close except, 1980 was the T model and didn't use a letter in the VIN. After that, they did. 1981 was the X model which had the B in the VIN. Plus, it should be the 9th digit or letter just before the numbers. Either way, he needs to post his VIN off of the frame to get the correct year and possibly model.

It could but its not. The 98 has a different rear linkage and the 97 has less underhang on the forks under the axle. The plastic cover on the right fork does not fit a 97 correctly.

Thats a cool looking 250...as far as the plastics getting scratched I dont care cause im on slicks for stunting......plus they are cheap! I've found the all the plastics except for the gas tank......sucks because everyone that makes a tank is for a 01 or newer...

Anybody got a hook-up on fork seals and wipers? Not gunna pay 80 dollars at the local store just for seals. Dealerships piss me off

check E*AY for the seals and stuff, i got new seals for $3, are you talking about black shrouds for the tank that you cant find or an actual black tank? Did you get the 10th digit yet of the VIN for us??

Sick.....I actually want a whole black tank to replace my yellow one. As far as the VIN goes, the frame is still at powdercoater till after wednesday. I'll check out **** to see what I can scrounge up.

Does anyone know where I can get swingarm needle bearings as well? I know there is a company that makes a "universal kit" for about 70 dollars.

Im more than likely going to make another post that shows the progress of the build-up for everyone to see.

Thanks again

i couldnt find a black tank as well so i ended up just throwing graphics over it. Everything was black except my tank. I know you can find basically all black grapgics which should cover it up. Heck maybe even try some krylon fusion spray paint. I use that on a lot of plastics and its great stuff, could be a simple solution for now.

Pivot Works for bearings. 96 - 98 models didn't have inverted forks, so your bike is definitely one of those three years. Look at the fork guards.

I'm having fun with this. You realize all we have to do is wait for the frame to get back from paint, but that would take all the mystery out of it.

Bike is definitely a 96 or 97. 98's didn't have the black plugs on the swingarm. These are to access the shock linkage bolt/nut. This bike looks just like my 96' 250. Forks are gold. Plastics are correct. Never knew what my original seat cover looked like.

That looks like the engine code off the engine? Does the bike have a 17 digit vin on the frame near the steering stem?
