What's going on guys...

I've been riding sport bikes for a couple of years now and I want to get into off-road riding and get in the dirt  I don't know that much about dirt bikes though and don't know what size I should get. The bike will never be used on the road and it will be used on all kinds of off-road terrain like mud, rocks, grass, packed dirt, dirt tracks, and maybe even sand. I don't really know what to start with though for my size. I'm 6'0 tall 190 lbs and like I said, I have lots of riding experiance on bikes from 250cc to 1000cc, but what would fit me guys? I want the fun to begin. Also, I'm looking for bikes that aren't too high priced

Thanks

Well i think youd have more fun on a 2stroke
Cheap
Cheap to maintain
Common (parts and easy to find one for sale)

Id go for 250cc+

A 2strokes power is a bit less than double a 4strokes (of the same clynd. size)

Ex: a 250cc 2stroke roughtly equalls a 450cc street bike (4stroke) but itll be alot lighter than what your used to

Kawasaki and Honda made some 500cc 2strokes in the 80s and 90s

So basically a 250cc or 500cc 2stroke

(any of the common 4 japenese brands are decent and consider KTM)

I appreciate the reply. Yeah I figured that a 250cc is what I should probably go with. For my size is it pretty easy to manhandle? I'm planning on getting into tricks and stuff on it so that's why I'm wondering.

Yeah, if you want to get a two stroke I would say go for a 250cc. It will be very easy for you to manhandle and can be very versatile too. I'm 5'8" 160lbs. and I must moved up to a 250 from a 125 and I'm loving it!

Do you plan on iding motocross or trails? If motocross, get a 250cc two-stroke motocross bike (CR250R, KX250, RM250, YZ250, KTM250SX). If trail riding, look at a KTM250EXC. Either way, I think a two-stroke would be better for you.

kdx 220r

I'm about the same size, and my 220r is perfect. Not too heavy, and just about enough power for everything I've come across so far. If your thinking four stroker, maybe something in the 400 range. Good luck, ride safe.

Would these not be good if I took them trail riding every once in a while?CR250R, KX250, RM250, YZ250, KTM250SX...
Also, what's really the difference in the 2 and 4 strokes for my need?

The KX, RM, YZ and SX are just ment for racing...so if you wanted to get into woods (more that just once in a while) you should consider putting on a skid plate, handgaurds, different pipe (to change power output location), etc.

Right now people are going crazy over 4strokes motox style - basically its expensive without that much of a difference. Usually beginer riders like 4strokes because they have 100% consistancy of power throughout RPMs.
