Hello, I just purchased a new 2001 200 Exc and I am having jetting or needle problems... I ride at about 1500ft and running a 42 to 1 mix. I have about 300 miles on the bike and I have played with the jetting a littl but I have now taken it back to stock but droped the needle one notch... Any Ideas.. Oh yeah it is jerking in the mid range and I think it is running rich by looking at the plug and the crap that is coming out of the pipe...

You've got to get the main and pilot jetted right first since they overlap some into the mid-range. I would start by dropping the main and pilot one size and see how it runs. It should rev clean on top without a lot of smoke and spooge and have crisp off-idle response if those are correct. Then fine tune the needle set-up.

Start with your premix at 32:1 and then start the jetting trial and error.

When making adjustments, I feel it is always a good idea to change one things at a time. By doing this you will know exactly how it affects the performance plus you will get learn what that change feels like. If you just cahnge 2 or 3 jets and change your premix, you may have no idea which one was your problem. Be patient, change one thing per ride until you have it dialed in. Or change out in the woods, take a day and just play with jetting on your bike. Make a change than ride a hour or so, and so on.

Good Luck!!!

Lower your fuel height in the carb bowl slightly, run 32:1, follow the jetting chart in the back of your orange book.

Should run perfect.

Thanks for the tips I will play with it some more. I tried running 32:1 and it didn't run good at all.. Why do I want to run 32:1 when the book says run anything from 40:1 to 60:1? Does anyone have any Jetting specs?

The factory jetting specs are in the very back of your owners manual. I could not ride a small bore bike with a premix ratio higher than 32:1. I spin that little motor too hard at times to trust anything but 32:1 or even less.

Try running race gas at 32:1 i mix VP red and 92 pump gas 50/50 to 5 gallons and one bottle of the dumontec red and my 125 rips. Check how many turns your air screw is out anything over 2 and a half and you need to rejet it. But first try the 32:1 pre mix. it should help..Check your reeds too... They might need replacing. even if they look fine...my bike havd a bad mid range hesitation and the reeds were bad...hope I can help..Raegan seig....

I only have about 300 miles on the bike... Do you think the reeds would be bad after that short time? Also do I need to clean anything out after it was running so Rich? I played witht the airscrew lastnight and it helped a little, it runs great on the bottom and top but the mid is uneven I guess you would say. If you hold the throttle in one place the revs go up and down....? I am new to this 2 stroke stuff!!

Try the reeds they are good to replace n e way go with some boysen fiberglass reeds. my bike did the same thing it feels like it has no mid or top it just stops reving and sputters when you hold it wide....Mile dosent matter hours does..Measure it in hours top ends need replacing every 10-12 hours of hard riding and reeds should be replaced about every 30-50 hours. to be safe i would replace or try flipping the reeds over if that cures your problem buy new reds cause they also weaken. by flipping them over the tensions is forced the oppsite way...try the flip and let me know....Raegan

I ride Ohio & PA 300-1400 ft. The manual says 40:1 to 50:1 for the 250 & 300, it says
40:1 only for the 200.
Here are my jetting specs: 175 main, 45 pilot, NOZG needle 2nd from top, 1.5 out on air screw.
Your reeds should be fine.

Good Luck & Happy Trails !!!

OH Boy are you going to love this link
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ktm200

It has every possible combo of jetting on the 200.

I personally put in a 1369N / 195 Main / 45 Pilot and LOVE the bike with this configuration, it SCREAMS!

Dont mess with the reeds/ Dont mix it 32:1 / Dont mess with the floats! Its the needle / main combo... The NOZx needles from KTM are just too rich.

KTM recommends 40-50:1

Definitely go with the 1367 or 1366 neddle and 195 main. Check out the shop talked about on the yahoo 200 groups, very helpful and stocked well.

thetemples: Did the 45 pilot make a big difference? I think 40 is stock, I still seem flat in the low end.

Ok I think that the 1369, 1367 and 1366 are honda needles, right? And how do they compare to the NOZG and NOZH why are they better then KTM Needles? Second can you exlpain why I would want to go with a bigger Main when it is running good on topend? Bottom end is "ok" but mid is a problem....

Thanks for all your help!

TKH-KTM,

You can get an assortment of these needles in brass material from Sudco for about $7 each. They all will run leaner than the NOZ- needles because they don't have the rich first taper (of 3 tapers) and are also leaner in the mid-range.

1369J = CEK (My favorite)
1369N = CGK (bottom clip #5 = CEK#3)
1367N = CGH
1366N = CGG

At 1-800-998-3529

Hello, hey I went to the shop to get a 1369N needle but they only had a 1368er... I know it will be a bit richer but what does the er stand for? and how does it compare to an N?

Thanks

The ER is not a commonly used code. What did they say it was from? ('99 Honda CR250?)

Length to mid taper is the letter after 1368_, so counting 1/2 clip position each:
E-F-G-H-J-K-L-M-N (skips I usually)

The 1368ER may be 4 clip positions (8/2) richer than 1368N. This would require that you use the top clip position to make it work.

Is the needle stamped with this code?

You may need to order a different needle.

Yes it is stamped with the code 1368er, I am currently running the NOZG, and it is running to rich, I figured that this needle would be better then what I am running until I can order a 1369N, Am I right in assuming that it is leaner then the NOZG and NOZH? I also figured that is can't hurt to try, I picked up an varity of jet included a 42, 45 pilot jet and 182,185, and a 195 main. I am planing on going for a little test ride tomorrow... Do you see anything wrong with these combos?
