So here are most of the picks i took during the restoration of this bike. I got it when i was thirteen as my first bike and project bike, it was at a body shop in the gurage, i asked the owner if i could buy but he told me to take it, he has no use for it and so my project began. Im 14 now and have always found these such things more interesting the video games. I like working with my hands and being productive, well heres the pics

like the 5th time i took the engine apart. It was leaking oil into the cylinder with a new piston and i kept tearing it apart putting it back together, one day i looked at the clymer shop manual for about an hour and discovered i had the top ring and bottom ring on the piston mixed so i bought new rings(just to be safe) and put them in. IT didnt leak oil anymore. THe damn manual isn't specific the pictures were confusing

<a href="http://s116.photobucket.com/albums/o3/rock_krawler/xr100/?action=view&current=CIMG5871.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o3/rock_krawler/xr100/CIMG5871.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
on one of the oil burining start ups, i accidentaly striped the plug hole from being to pissed, but i got it helicoiled.

Got to have an emergency tool kit. it's just a 4 dollar camara bag with a small ratchet, screw driver(with 10 bits), spark plug socket, and 10mm-15mm sockets all packed under the seat. GOTTA HAVE THEM TOOLS!

<a href="http://s116.photobucket.com/albums/o3/rock_krawler/xr100/?action=view&current=CIMG6497.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o3/rock_krawler/xr100/CIMG6497.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
spark plug holder on fender under seat. it's one of those icebreaker containers. Holds more than icebreakers.

Looks like you are doing an outstanding job of bringing a cool old bike back to life. Well done.

You are doing an excellent job. That thing will look better than most modern bikes when done. I love the thinking on the tool holder and sparkplug keeper. Your thinking is what makes these projects super cool to check out. I always like seeing what someone else changes are. Keep it up! :)

thnx for the comments. yeah i actually just painted the tank heres a pic. i still have to do the black. the grey parts at the bottom of the tank are going to be painted black so there will be a black line all the way ip the side of the tank. Then i will order the side emblems. For the fenders i have this plastic polish by rouge that makes them look like new. I am having fun with this project but it will be more fun to ride

That reminds me of my XR-80. I know it sounds dumb, but I really do regret selling it. And I never restored mine, just replaced a broken timing chain. I really would wring that thing out, and it took a beating. Had 225+lbs riders on it as well, abusing it. That is a pretty stout motor.

Honestly, my advice to you: DONT get rid of it once your ready for something bigger. You wont get out of it, what you have in it. And how sweet would it be to see it go to a little brother/cousin/kid etc. instead of someone you dont even know? Cant wait to see the all-done photos.

thank you, i think the same way. I mean video games are fun but nothing beats getting your hands dirty and breakin a little sweat  but no one really cares for that anymore. It's all about video game design and gangs and what not. hell some of the kids my age who may have dirt bikes don't even know how to change the spark plug! :yikes: . Theres a kid at my school who rides but didn't even know what a piston was. i swear youth is wasted

Yea it is kinda scary how little some people know about the cars, bikes, etc. that they own. There was a kid we went to high school with that ran pre-mix, 32:1, through his XR200 for seriously like 6 months until I explained the two-stroke vs. four-stroke thing. I cant believe it didnt foul plugs though since it wasnt jetted for it. Actually though, that would make it fuel-lean ...

It's kinda scary how many kids I went to highschool, or college with, that just sit infront of the TV all day on PlayStation, or drinking, which I mean, that is fun too, but only once n a while.
