This is kinda stolen from the holeshot board, but they are saying there will be a 200 SX, 450 SX and EXC, a 520 MXC desert racing? and a 85 SX. Add that to the new 250 SX they're working on and 2003 could be a huge year for KTM. Anyone else have any more info on this? The 450 EXC could be my next bike, should be about the right time for a new one.

I have searched some of the Euro/ S. America sites looking for info on the 2003 bikes and came up short. Who has some solid info on the Bikes? I am gonna buy pretty soon but will hold out tilll Aug if the 450 EXC is in the works.

i wouldn't count on any of those models for '03'.
the 200 sx would be an easy deal though...they have all the parts but,
the market may be just a bit slim for that bike.

Yeah, I'm thinking 400SX->450SX and the 520 will probably be upgraded to 540. This is pure conjecture, although I have it from an extremely reliable source that the big thumper is not going away.

I think the new 250SX is pretty much confirmed, and there's a lot of talk about them testing a 250 four-stroke.

The 85sx should be a late '03 model year release. Per reliable source that hasn't mislead me before.

Anyone heard anything about the contingency program for '02?

450 vs 520 EX/C

As a recent buyer of a 520 EX/C I am not clear why you would get the 450 when the 520 should not me much more expensive?

Because.....

I am sure you will see a 450 instead of the 400, in '03. It is the cc limit in '03 for MX.

It is just the obvious replacement for the 400 and there will be no point in having a 400 and a 450.

I don't need that much power. In reality a 400 I'm sure has plenty of power for me, but if they're gonna go to a 450 so be it. That is unless they come out with a 250 RFS thats competitive:p

450SX for sure, 450EXC makes no sense.

The 450SX makes obvious sense for the nem MX cc limit but I'd be surprised if KTM bothered with a 450 EXC.
It wouldn't fit into the 400cc Enduro class and would be head to head with the 520EXC in the open class.
My feelings are that the EXC's will continue as 400 and 520 cc's.
KTM have a history of seperate SX(MX) and EXC development ie. different forks, gearing etc.
But hey, who knows ?

I'm considering making a bike to get me through until KTM finally gets their small bore 4 stroke act together. I figure I could take a XR250 throw a 280 kit and pipe on it, get the suspension reworked, find some orange plastic and have my own small RFS with money to burn.:)

You should be banned from this forum for talking about red bikes. Better dead than red!:p

Patty you can handle 520 easily after that beastly 2-stroke you ride.

Heck Strick I said I was going to put orange plastic on it.

Awwww, it's a ***** cat or at least it WAS! I got a gray plastic crate delivered to my office from the wilds of Cheesehead Land yesterday with a newly updated power plant from Professor Gorr. I think I might be able to catch Santa this year if I can get it on the pilot jet  (That darn Scotty in the engine room ain't got nothin' on me now!):p

I have heard from a from a reliable source that the new 250 is completed. I do not know when it will see action. I also heard that Dowdy will race the 250 as well as the four stroke.

From what my local Husky dealer says; the F.I.M. 4-stroke Enduro class over in Europe will be changing from 400cc to 450cc in the near future.
That is the reason behind Husky changing the TE400 to a 450 and probably KTM's also. I imagine a 250 RFS will be out in the near future.

The first place I would assume we will see it is in the GP series. Look for James Dobb or Gordan Crockard to be on board or maybe both will be on new ones. Does anyone know if it is just a new 250 motor or is KTM doing a new frame as well?

When I asked what was going to be new, I was told everything. What that includes is beyond me. I found out that the motor may be a more vertical cylinder. I have the 02 sx250 and can't imagine a better motor unless it is as powerful but smoother. I would think that the frame would be changed but who knows. We should see some pictures soon as the GP season nears. Depending what is changed, I think that the 450sx will be my choice.

I asked my dealer about a 450 EXC and he shook his head no. 03 400EXC is what he mumbled and mentioned something about another seal fix.

indeed, there is not much mystery in the 250rfs.
the bike has been raced in europe for quite a while now...with
great sucess too!
however, i would not look for one stateside for some time.
even at the ktm dealer show we were told that there were no
current plans to bring them here.
in my opinion, its a wise move.

New 250 SX engine is more vertical cylinder to shorten wheelbase and give more pipe/wheel clearance. 200SX prototype is being raced in german SX series.

in 'euro' enduro starting from 2003 there will be 4 classes only, all being a mix of 4 and 2-stroke's. 250 2-stroke's will be up against max 450 4 stroke's. This suggests that KTM will also upgrade to a 450 enduro model and Yam could eventually discontiniue the WR 400. This is just reasoning, no inside info.

i have heard that grant langston would be helping ktm very much with the new 250sx this year, i don't know for sure but that would make sense to me because he'll be moving 250 class '03:think
