Last night at the race, my transmission/clutch side of the motor was REALLY hot to the touch. I could literally feel the heat through my Tech 8 in a 4 lap heat (maybe 1:20 per lap - it's a small track). My father in law stated that it was hotter than his CR125 kart after a 30 minute moto running at up to 125 mph.

Outside temps ranged from 75 degrees at the start of the evening to the high 50s at 9:00 PM.

Mobil 1 20w50 tranny oil with maybe 4-5 hours on the oil.

Coolant level is fine. The rest of the motor seemed normal temp.

Any ideas of cause/solution? Something is clearly different from the last race.

Also, my bike will hit neutral 50% of the time going from 2nd to 1st. Do you think a different weight oil would minimize that problem?

Thanks

Rob

May be. . . Clutch didn't seem to be giving me any issues, though.

I dunno. I've got new fibers so I guess I'll change them out.

defiantly slipping clutch, either you were working it pretty hard (which admittedly isn't hard to do on a 125) or the springs need replacing.

Rob, that will be #4 on the slipping clutch. I hope you never see how bad that gets on a 450 f motor. Oil to near boiling temps is a bummer! Smell your dipstick!
